Pork belly - we gave it a couple of tries and now I laugh when I see it used & raved about on Top Chef or another cooking show. I knew someone would probably mention pork belly! I've seen other people say that they are over the whole pork belly fad. Personally I can't get enough of the stuff, and I'm not usually much of a pork eater. The one that's served at our favorite restaurant is the best ever. The one that I make at home is pretty darn good, even if I do say so myself. And the one that my MIL cooked for us last night was magnificent. We both do it with a chilli caramel sauce that is so good I could drink it! Pork belly can go either way I have had it when it's good and other times it was just a slice of fat on top of my burger. Ick. That's the thing..... the pork belly MUST have crispy crackling otherwise it really is just a lump of disgusting fat. I ordered it once at a local restaurant and I was so disappointed because there was no crackling, just a lump of pork with a bit bit of fat on top. Blech!

Salted caramel everything! I totally agree with you. I love salt and I love caramel... but not together. Just like pumpkin cheesecake. Separate? Holy cow, can't enough, leave me alone whole I eat the whole thing. Together? Disgusting.

Kale and quinoa everything. I love them both and eat them nearly every day, but enough is enough. Kale has no place on pizza and neither does quinoa. THANK YOU!!! Especially Quinoa. It tastes like my shoe. I tasted it for the first time the other night and I had to spit it out.

Foamed sauces. Make feel ill to even contemplate. It looks as if someone with a lung disease had expectorated on the plate. Especially if it is green.

I really dislike the self serve fountain drink machines where there is a ton of options for each flavor. Then they all taste off due to the mixing of the flavors coming out of the machine. My co-worker says all the drinks in those taste like grape drink to him. They taste fine to me.

A thousand times yes! Plus that fact that it takes everyone so long to get their drink as there are so many buttons to push. Heaven help us if they have never seen one of the machines before. I will admit to letting the drink run for a second or two to flush out the nasty orange-raspberry or whatever the 7 year old that used the machine before me chose.

I've never ordered anything that had a foamed sauce, but when I see people do that on cooking shows, it makes me want to barf. I don't like truffle anything, but fortunately, that trend seems to have died out here.

I love these machines. I can get diet ginger ale, which I love. I can't have caffeine or sugar, so this is my favorite part of going to a movie!

I am admittedly not a pumpkin fan -- as a flavoring. Why in the heck would you want your coffee to taste like it?

I really dislike the self serve fountain drink machines where there is a ton of options for each flavor. Then they all taste off due to the mixing of the flavors coming out of the machine. Yes, I hate this machine! I like cherry coke. I love it out of the fountain. I know where I can get it. When I first saw this, I was thinking cool, I can make myself a cherry vanilla coke (anyone remember that flavor?)! The flavor tasted so off. I will pay .50 more to get a real cherry coke from the Subway that's in my Meijer just to avoid that machine which is constantly out of certain flavors half of the time anyways. Bacon everything. I like bacon but I don't want it added to every single thing I buy or cook. Pumpkin spice everything. It's one thing to see it as flavor for coffee but now I see it in cookies, bagels, english muffins, anything you add flavoring to. Holiday flavors in general. Kale and quinoa - ok I get it, it's healthy but I don't like it.

A tablespoon of purée whatever smudged/ smear across the plate. 4 drops of sauce. What the hell. That's call decorating and garnishing the plate. This isn't anything new. It's been a part of plates since food started being plated formally and decoratively. Food trends for me that need to go away are things like the trendy followers of vegan, paleo, dairy free and gluten free diets. If you are not following it for medical reasons, you're doing it to be trendy and only when it's convenient... and that's annoying and gives those who actually need to eat like that a bad name. No you can't have gravy with your fries if you're vegan. I don't care how much you try to convince me that there's no meat in gravy.

$12 a glass for a $6 bottle of wine. Also, being forced to pay $35 for a $15 bottle of wine because you are in a restaurant

Smoked whatever just because you can. So over this. A tablespoon of purée whatever smudged/ smear across the plate. 4 drops of sauce. What the hell. Yes, I agree wholeheartedly with this.....and these should disappear very soon!

But what a perfect description. Hahaha. I am over Brunch but this could be just my area. Horrible yucky breakfast food served at noon with unlimited mimosas.

Pumpkin Spice anything. It is bad enough during fall, but I am still seeing it at the grocery store. Yogurt, oatmeal, coffee creamer, popcorn, beer, cookies, ice cream. Just go away pumpkin spice, then maybe the salted caramel revolution can finally start! DH and I saw the funniest sign this last fall at a service station...Pumpkin Spice oil change! We laughed all day.

Gluten free everything. We don't all want or need to be gluten free, its okay to leave the original recipe alone. As a mom to a daughter with Celiac diease, we are soooo happy to see way more options. The companies still make their origional but now offer a gf option too.

Food served on something other than a plate or bowl. Can't stand food served on baking sheets, mini-wheel barrows, tiles, etc awww, but the fried shrimp served inside the teeny, tiny fryer basket was so cute!! (it really was-- but I did laugh at it!) I have seen people on Chopped serve their food on what looks to me like a slab of a tree with the bark still on-- that can't possibly be sanitary. ETA: in my opinion, sea salt in dark chocolate = wonderful! salt with caramel? not so much...

Pumpkin Spice everything. A PSL from Starbucks is OK and I liked pumpkin spiced almonds but everything else yuck! I had truffle something recently...oh potato chips, and they were pretty good. The other flavors (limited edition, now I can't remember what they were..biscuits and gravy maybe) sounded disgusting. I don't really care for kale in everything either. I hope not that Christmas is over eggnog flavored everything goes away. I am a huge chocolate fan and even the eggnog truffle sample I had at See's candy was gross, if I'm going to get a free sample it should be chocolate ETA: I forgot one: TV's everywhere. Our Wendy's was recently remodeled and it now has an area with couches and a TV, you know in case you want to hang out at Wendy's... maybe while you wait for someone to figure out that fancy coke machine they have now...

I always let a little bit out before filling the cup. I've found it helps with "cleaning" out the previous flavor so it doesn't taste off. I do this too. I get migraines from artificial sweeteners and don't want to end up with any of that in my cup.

Bacon on/in everything! I love bacon, but I like it straight up. I don't like it mixed in with all my other foods.
And I am not a sauce person, so I always ask for sauce on the side. I think most places use too much sauce.

Some of my favorite trends are getting dissed y'all! I am glad to see gluten free options (haven't seen it mean the original is not an option. They can co-exist!) Love salted caramel, kale.
The food trend I'd like to see disappear is the trend in judging other people for what they do eat (anti-McDs, anti canned soup, anti velveeta)

The food trend I'd like to see disappear is the trend in judging other people for what they do eat (anti-McDs, anti canned soup, anti velveeta) I'm there with you. (Except on the kale thing...) We eat pretty healthy in our house, but I get really weary of the food police. We do what we do, we're not concerned about anybody else's choices. My favorite are the ones who, with horrified face, wonder WHO would EVER let their child eat lunch from the SCHOOL CAFETERIA. Because, well, I do, on the days she wants to eat what they're serving. It's fine, she ate organic whole-grain pancakes and fruit for breakfast and will eat vegetables and protein for dinner after an hour of gymnastics, so I swear to you that processed cafeteria pizza is not going to poison her. But you can go on thinking that moms who really love their kids pack their lunches if you want. To paraphrase the Dowager Countess, it must get cold on the moral high ground.
