No, really never cared to learn. I don't eat that type of food frequently to want to make a real effort.
ETA: Eagerness level would be a 10

No, I cannot. But I would rate myself a 15 on your Pie Hole Eagerness scale.
Pretty frequently clients will drop off baked goods and treats at our office. When I hear cellophane crinkling in that general area, my head automatically goes up and I try to determine if new food is being set out - pretty much like a dog.

I'm usually at 11 And I haven't tried to eat with chopsticks for years, not really interested. I'd bring a fork in my bag if I had to routinely eat somewhere where they weren't available.

Yes, but my kids couldn't use knives when we moved back from Korea the first time. it was downright appalling watching them stab and thrust at things- they were used to everything being cut up to be picked up with chopsticks! And why DON'T we use scissors for meat in the US? It's so much easier. They never actually got the knife and fork thing, we are back in Korea, lol. Or not shoving huge bites in their mouths. I suppose we had best stay here.
I am a firm 10 on the pie hole scale, which is why I love chopsticks. Pick up the bowl of noodles/rice/etc and shovel it on in. Awesome.

Yes, I can but using a fork hastens the process.
I would rate my desire to hasten the transfer of food from the plate to my mouth at 8. To do a 10 would hasten the onset of indigestion, an undesirable outcome to what I consider a pleasurable experience (eating food).
You will notice that I qualified the words"pleasurable experience" to prevent some peas from hastening to hint that I may not be talking about the same thing as you.

No, I can't, but I am not a fan of Asian cuisine, so the skill isn't needed.

I can, but not very well. We try almost every time we eat Chinese out!

I do know how, but I'm not that good any more and find it much easier to use a fork. I frequently eat out with a friend who is proficient with them, and I feel like a klutz in comparison.
Funny story, though: Back in the dark ages (prior to marriages/kids, when I was young, cute and thin) boyfriend was taking Japanese in college. Class did a field trip to NYC to see Kubuki (sp?) theater and eat at Japanese restaurant. About 20 people maybe. I was the only one able to use chopsticks at the restaurant. Boyfriend was embarrassed that he couldn't and I could, but everyone else found the amusement in the non-student was able to eat traditionally.

I can use them but my hand gets crampy after a little while, which makes me wonder if my technique is wrong. Eagerness rating of 7-8ish.

Yes, my dad encouraged it starting at a fairly young age. Eagerness Level 10.
Our kids started leaning to use them at the same time they started with a fork and spoon (although, obviously with much less success in the beginning). We've always eaten a lot of Asian food so they've had a great deal of practice.

I start out the meal really well but somewhere around half way through, it's like my hands forget how to work the chopsticks and I get frustrated and give up.

The kids still prefer a fork or their hands.

Yes I can eat with chopsticks. It's not always pretty, but I make an effort whenever we eat Asian. When I was in Vietnam, most of the waiters snickered (good-naturedly) at our ineptness.

I love Asian food. Love, love, love it. So my eagerness is usually a 10. But I can't operate chopsticks to save my life.

First of all, your post made me LOL, especially the eagerness to shove food into your piehole. I really like that and will be using as soon as I can possibly fit it into conversation. I cannot use chopsticks. Unless of course, I line up about 6 of them and tie them together to make a shovel...to eloquently shovel food into my piehole with an eagerness of about 13.

I can use chopsticks for stabbing people or to poke something but other than that no. Like you I eat when I am hungry. I use forks and spoons adequately I see no need to add chopsticks to my repertoire.

I don't know if I use them *correctly* but I do use chopsticks. When we go to our local Chinese restaurant, we always have to ask for them... apparently most people who go in there don't even want them, lol, so they don't even put them out on the tables.
I sort of use them correctly, and then when the pieces of food get too small for me to pick up properly, I'll just kind of use them 'next to each other' to make a surface (kind of like the surface of a fork) for lifting things. (I'm not above using my fingers to hold things on the chopsticks, either!! )
And I would rate my 'pie-hole eagerness' (lol!!) at about a 7, when I'm really hungry...

Did you know that in China and other countries where everyone uses chopsticks regularly, children learn to use them around age two! Boy, did I feel foolish when our Chinese guests (teachers who stayed with us for a few weeks) tried to teach me how to use chopsticks! DDs picked it up pretty well, but I would starve if I didn't have a fork or spoon! ETA- and I am always eager to eat my shrimp lo mein, so "ain't nobody got time for chopsticks!"

No, I cannot use chopsticks, and I am an eager beaver myself.
I probably fall in the 8-9 category!

I learned as a teen and am still pretty good with them. I, too, get clumsy about half way through and use a fork.
I'm usually an 8 on the eagerness to pie hole scale.

Yes, I can. My parents were both in bowling leagues when I was a child, so we spent a lot of time in the local alley. They had a Chinese restaurant inside the bowling alley and we ate there frequently. I remember the waiter folding up the paper covering of the chopsticks and placing it between the sticks with a rubberband at the end to hold them together. I would take mine home and practice with them so that I could remove the rubberband and and eat like my parents did.

Yes but that is like asking me if i can use a fork. I've used them all my life as I'm Chinese :-)
I will admit that i do it "wrong" in that my chopsticks cross instead of pinching food, i catch them in the cross. This is the result of being too eager to get food when little and never being corrected. I can do it the right way now but why bother. Food gets to me efficiently so I'm happy.

Yes, we are Hawaiian so they are used. I have reuseable ones and am teaching my little ones to use them. I struggle using them for soup, which some folks do. It also took some time to eat rice as well. Sometimes I revert to fork to get the last bits of food off the plate if I'm super eager

I don't use them and could probably try, but I enjoy using a fork. Hmmm, I wonder how well they would work with all the Mexican food I eat

No I can not and have never been able to use chopsticks. I have tried many times over the years. When daughter was heck I can't remember how old she was but she was in middle school when the Olympics were in China and she had been doing something from each country each time the Olympics happened through out the years. This time she had picked using chop sticks. She wanted the big bag from Cash and Carry so husband took her there and bought them for her before the Olympics started.
This was her way of supporting the athletes. She started using them the day the Olympics started and ate every meal with them until she had using them down perfect. now she eats with them more then she eats with a fork. I have tried many times and she has tried to show me many times and I still can't get my thumb and fingers to work together to make those sticks work. I work better with one stick in my fingers at a time.

No, I cannot use chopsticks, but DH and sons can. I visited Japan, and always kept a spork handy, because I was always ready to eat, and didn't want to waste time dropping food.

Yes, I can and do use them. It is funny, when I eat Chinese food, I'm fine with just using a fork but when I eat Japanese food, I prefer to use chopsticks. I'm not sure why but I just would rather use them.
I would rate my pie hole eagerness about a "1"
