Does anyone know what they are up to? They have not announced a new release, they are having a warehouse sale, their Paper Made store apparently closed, their facebook page has not been updated in some time and they haven't sent out a Daily Dose email for long time (except to announce the warehouse sale).

I know nothing, but I have the same uneasy feeling you have. Please, please don't close!
I am so bummed out - I always go to the warehouse sale, but I'll be out of town this time. No!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I can make it Saturday, at least. Hopefully there will something left for me .

On the other hand, October Afternoon has never done anything on time. So why would now be any different?

It doesn't look good. Earlier, they've kept active and at least announced upcoming collections, even if it took them years to actually manufacture. Now it's only silence. I'm so happy for my OA stash. It's a treasure to me. I will be sad if they don't release collections in the future. On the other hand, the business was not very well organized so, for the people directly involved, it might be a relief if they are to close down. But the designs...oh, those designs. They are dreamy.

This thread inspired me to use some Farm Girl on a layout last night.

Holy crap!!! This might explain a lot of the reasons OA is so wishy washy. There is one former employee who was told to lie to customers about when product would be in. They were told to tell customers that it would be a few weeks when in actuality, they should've been told months! www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/October-Afternoon-Reviews-E729943.htm Wow! I'm just mesmerized by all these complaints about a company I truly love! The sad thing is, I believe what has been written here given OA's reputation.

The glass door statements are awful.
I loved their products and designs - but that makes me feel a bit different.

Some of their previous designs have been released as fabrics with Riley Blake, so maybe that's the direction they're going in? It seems to me that designing is more their forte than manufacturing, based on all of the ongoing complaints about missed deadlines, late releases, miscommunications, etc. over the years.

Oh my gosh the reviews of their workplace are so much worse than I imagined. I was planning to go to the warehouse sale and especially now want to if since it seems just a matter of time until they get out of scrapbooking products They are my fave line to stockpile, but I'm sure not crazy to hear how they treat employees!

The toilet paper thing is just beyond words. And the physical threats, shouting obscenities at the top of their lungs, makes me think that maybe this person is not mentally stable. There was not one single review that talked good about working for that company.

There was not one single review that talked good about working for that company. It sure makes me think differently about OA products.

So I'm a little confused. I have always thought that it was a married couple who did everything and that's why it always took so long to get anything produced. And I was also under the impression that they manufactured and packaged their own product. Now, in the beginning, when they produced several lines a year and were mostly on time, I am sure it took a number of employees to help do the work, perhaps outside of designing. But - and it's a huge BUT - they haven't produced much of anything for years now so what did the employees have to do? Why would they even need employees? So strange!
I always thought there was something weird going on there and now we know there definitely is/was. I don't think I want to buy any more of their product.

I've never knew about the people who worked at OA, or how many employees they had there, so I can't answer any of that. I only learned of them maybe three years ago, and have for the longest been hunting down past collections. I had always heard how slow they were to get collections out, or not to count on what they told you (now we know why), but never did I hear anything bad about the owners, which I'm surprised about. It does make you wonder why they needed employees when they haven't produced much in the last few years. I'm still shocked at those reviews though.

I remember there being a thread about this on the old 2 peas. I may be wrong, but I think the people from October Afternoon came on to defend themselves.

I've always wanted to go to their warehouse sale. I wished they did an online sale. The warehouse sales are total chaos. Half the time they don't have stuff labeled with the prices or specials right away, and once you're in the single file line for the checkout that is 30+ people deep you can't go back (which becomes a problem when you find out AFTER you're in that line that something you chose three of is a "buy 3, get one free" deal or something similar). People are lined up outside for hours (sometimes in freezing cold weather) just to get in, and once you're in there it's wall to wall people. You'd think after doing a number of these sales they would have a better system figured out, but no. I can't even imagine how an online warehouse sale would go down.

Well that's crazy, but after reading the reviews it doesn't surprise me one bit. I'd be mad to find out I had bought some items that qualified for a free item and didn't get it. I think they'd get an earful from me since it wasn't marked. I don't know how or why you couldn't get it since I've never been, but I bet you I'd go get it!

I think they'd get an earful from me since it wasn't marked. I don't know how or why you couldn't get it since I've never been, but I bet you I'd go get it! The last time I went, the line for the checkout was single file, down a narrow winding hallway lined with shelves. Once you were in that line, there was no getting out. I ended up getting my free thing because the friend who went with me was a couple people ahead of me in the line. She checked out first and didn't buy much so she was was able to somehow go back to the other area and grab it for me. But if it would have been more than one roll of washi tape or whatever it was, I would have been out of luck. By the time you got to the 2-3 cash registers to pay, you were all the way out of the area where they had the stuff set up for sale. If you left the building and wanted to come back in, you end up back in the line of 50-150 people waiting for people to come out so they can go in. Like I said, chaos. If I didn't like their stuff so much, it wouldn't be worth the hassle.
