We had front row seats to see John Cleese and Eric Idle and they recreated an old sketch about a bookshop. If you are a Monty Python fan you may remember it. Eric Idle comes in and keeps asking for books like David Coperfield - with 1 P not 2 and so on, Eventually he asks for a bird book to which John Cleese (the bookseller) says "here we are, we DO have this book!" However, he wants the abridged version which doesn't include the gannet, at which stage JC starts ripping pages from the book. It ends with him ordering him out of the shop and throwing the book across the desk. In this case across the stage directly landing between my ankles. The Swedish backpacker next to me tried to rummage under my seat to grab it but I held fast with my feet!
During the intermission I rushed 4 rows back to show off my book to a friend who was there. She happened to notice that the book was in fact autographed by both of them with a "Sorry about the gannet" comment.
Suddenly, the theatre went dark so I had to run back to my seat, right along in front of the stage. When I finally got to my empty seat, it was very bright as John Cleese was standing on the edge of the stage RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY SEAT! He said 'Take your time, you haven't missed anything" Of course the whole audience laughed and I was clearly dying of embarrassment. He smiled and said the audience "She's very nice!" and I meekly replied "Yes I am"
So now I have an autographed, brand new $45 book about Australian birds, well nearly new, it does have a few pages ripped out and of course an amazing memory of a great night!

Very cool! What a creep trying to grab the book from under your seat though. I'm glad to hear you held fast!

Outstanding! A couple of years ago, JC was here doing a solo show. My DH and I sat front row centre. The show was about his formative years, he acted out all the characters. When he did the part about how his headmaster intimidated him he stared my husband down until he squirmed- it felt like about a minute! So jealous of your book

Exciting! They are truly comic geniuses.
Reminds me of the time that my FIL brought home a large blob of jello that he caught at a Blue Man Group show. He was so proud.

So exciting! What a cool memory and souvenir of a great night! Love them and would've loved to see the show even from the back row.

that's so cool! I love that they planned for the book to go in the audience and signed it ahead of time so whomever got it would have that too. That's very thoughtful.

What a fun evening - and a great souvenir to remember it by! Good for you being quick with your feet to keep the backpacker from nabbing the book.

How fun is that! What a great souvenir. We thought it was pretty great when we got a guitar pick from Charlie Daniels but nothing as exciting as your experience!

Very cool! What a creep trying to grab the book from under your seat though. I'm glad to hear you held fast! Damn "Swedish backpacker"! I envisioned him like the stupid, greedy people grabbing the baseball out of someone's (often children!) hands in the stands at a baseball game- but then being caught and shamed on camera. Glad you got the book.

Corinne, how wonderful! And so cool that the book was actually signed by both of them. I can't think of anyone I'd rather be embarrassed by than John Cleese! Absolutely agree!
