A friend and I were bemoaning how much we had spent on scrapbook supplies, and talking about regretting some of it. I don't regret scrapbooking itself, as it helped keep track of my pictures, but I do regret not switching to the much cheaper digital many years sooner (I wish I had switched about 10 years ago but was stubborn)
I did try knitting and crochet a few years ago, but gave myself a very limited budget the first few months so I could really decide if I enjoyed it (turns out I didn't) so at least I learned my lesson~
I really can't ever see letting myself invest so much money at least in a hobby again.
Do you have hobbies that you either regret how much money, time, space etc spent, or that you wish you just hadn't started at all? Do you think it influences how you approach new hobbies now?

I have enjoyed my scrappy supplies - purchasing them, having them, and using them. Fortunately, I didn't spend beyond our family's means. A lot of my stuff has come as gifts. DH loves his cameras and equipment. I think he has too much stuff, of course. I haven't really had another hobby that took up a lot of space or a crazy amount of money. if I were to pursue something like quilting, I would for sure have to give up my scrappy stuff. I still don't think I'd regret buying it, though.

Same as you.....i cleared out my scrap stuff fully a few years back and was desperately trying not to add up what it must all have cost. Ugh.....i was SO hooked. When I switched to digi that low costs was one of the real plus points

it's hard for me to regret any of my hobbies because I derived satisfaction from all of them at the time. it's when I've stopped that some bit of regret kicks in. I don't think I will ever regret scrapbooking despite the thousands and thousands of dollars I've spent on supplies. I think that was part of the fun in that hobby.

I'd probably say scrapbooking too, because I have no self control, and I LOVE to shop. I have SO much stuff, and haven't actually produced anything in well over a year. I still *want* to, and plan to. My motivation just isn't there. I guess it's good that I don't have any LSS near me anymore, so my "collecting" (as my husband calls it) has almost stopped.

Basically all hobbies cost money and take time. The joy they bring make them worth it. I've never regretted any hobbies I've had.

Nope, and I have done a LOT of hobbies over the years. It's stuff I do to be creative and to unwind. When I consider how much DH has spent on his hobbies (fishing, hunting, riding ATV's, snowmobiles, bowling, curling, league shooting, etc.), what I have spent on my stuff would barely scratch the surface. I have zero regrets because while I was doing each of my hobbies (even the things I no longer do), I loved what I was doing and was having fun. For me, it was a much better use of my time and money than hitting the bar drinking or doing other similar things that really don't seem to enhance my life.

Nope! They brought me pleasure, so how can I regret the money?

Not regret, but maybe a little more cautious going into the next thing.
I know I could have spent much less $$ on scrapbooking, but I do still do it and I make a lot of cards for others. But I do think about how much I've spent on it when I look into my next hobby, dog sports. I want to make sure I really want to do anything that requires an investment in equipment. I want to do scootering with my dog, but the scooter is pretty expensive so I have a friend that is going to take us out a few times to make sure we like it before investing.

No, no regrets at all. I love being "crafty" and have a lot of hobbies. Even with scrapbooking, while I wish I had made some better choices with some of my scrapping purchases, I don't regret the hobby (live and learn).
I love my hobbies and they make (or made) me happy and brought me pleasure so nothing to regret there.

I do regret the money I spent on scrapbooking. I know I'll enjoy looking at the albums one day, but I think just basic albums filled with photos would have worked just fine for my memories.

I wish I'd spent more time scrapping and less shopping. I feel like I squandered some time.

I regret jumping on the bandwagon to get the popular things when I was doing it for pay. At one point I was so focused on trying to get published. After burning out with not so many published pieces I started purchasing only those things that I really loved.

And scrapbooking led me to cardmaking which led me to art journaling and mixed media. I LOVE mixed media, and it's mostly what I do now on everything I create!!!! Scrapping is expensive but man paints, etc., are even more expensive but it's my passion!!!! It's my bit of joy in every single day!

I have no regrets about my main hobby which is scrapbooking, but I can see how much money I spent on it and while I would like to start a new hobby (quilting) I'm not going to until I use or get rid of some of my scrapbooking stuff. I know how I hoard paper, I can only imagine what I would be like with fabric!

No. I have tried lots of different hobbies and spent a lot of money along the way. I figure as long as I wasn't interfering with family time (which I didn't) and didn't spend so much that it took from my family's budget (it didn't), why have regrets? How else do you find out what you love if you aren't willing to try different things?

Nope. If I hadn't spent money on that, I would have wasted it on something else. I feel like it was worth the enjoyment.

I love all my hobbies and am constantly looking for more! But I guess the most I've spent on a hobby with the least to show for it, was scrapbooking. I have a few nice pages, that I love to look back on. But I spent a LOT! I bought the Creative something kit! I bought the special journaling pens. Ended up selling almost all of it at a lawn sale for a fraction of what I paid for it all.
I love photography, and love my camera. I don't regret buying that all. I also love crocheting and knitting. I do have a stash of yarn that I haven't done much with because I buy new skeins for current projects. But I don't regret that.
I've also taken an interest in painting. I have spend a bit on it and haven't really done anything with it. But I know eventually I will! Just have to find the time for it!

Weaving. I don't regret the hobby, but I do regret investing in a big floor loom and bench that are the proverbial elephant in the room when it comes to space. Every time I think of selling it, DH talks me out of it. And when I look at prices, I doubt I'd get much for it. So it just hangs out in the guest room, waiting on me to take an interest in weaving again.

No regrets because I learned from all the media I've tried. (I should have an MFA for all the classes I've taken.)

Scrapbooking is the only hobby I've really had (I've been doing it for close to twelve years).
I don't regret it one bit.
It's my only outlet. My therapy. My stress relief.
And I feel like it was money well spent, compared to things that others do and spend money on, like smoking two packs a day, buying a case a beer or hitting the bar after work, eating take out frequently, etc.
I love looking back at my albums. And I still love putting together layouts and "talking shop" here about scrapbooking.

I regret buying some items - mostly trendy stuff that was cool, but not my style... I also tended to go all in, buying a lot of stuff rather than a little bit to see how I liked it... Those big PL main kits come to mind... I could never use so many cards let alone six kits full...

Same as you.....i cleared out my scrap stuff fully a few years back and was desperately trying not to add up what it must all have cost. Ugh.....i was SO hooked. Me too. My main hobby has been scrapbooking and I don't regret being involved but OMG the money! I could afford it and was lucky enough to be on local DT's so I got a lot of free product and had a spending allowance in the stores so thankfully that cut things down considerably.
I think what I do regret is a lot of the layouts that I did for DT projects mean nothing to me. I am turning my scraproom/study into a bedroom/workout room and will be throwing a lot of those layouts out. I have a huge pile of them not in albums. I'll take the photos off and then toss the rest.
I'm giving all my leftover supplies to a friend that makes cards and sells them with the profits going to the Leukaemia Foundation and Visions Australia so I'm happy that all my lovely papers and cardstock will have a good home.

Scrapbooking was the first, spent lots but really enjoyed it so no regrets. Sold and donated about 3/4 of my materials and supplies but still make cards.
Now my new hobby is Lego and if purchased carefully, kept clean and intact they hold and often increase in value. If I loose interest in the hobby I can liquidate and already have significant equity in several sets. Absolutely no regrets.

Yes and no. Yes because I have accumulated a massive supply of stuff that I don't need and no because I enjoyed it when I was thinking about it.
I'm a card maker and I stopped doing it for a couple months. Life just got hectic and busy and I thought I was done with making cards. But just recently I began making cards again. I love it! I'm watching all these youtube videos and seeing all the latest trends. And yes, I bought some more supplies but I really enjoy it.
And yes, I kind of regret getting into knitting because I have a half finished scarf and a bunch of yarn that I will probably never use. But I keep a box in the basement. And I also regret getting into jewelry making...I don't even wear jewelry...I have no idea why I got into that.

I regret every dollar I ever spent on scrapbooking, and I was highly published. I regret it because I ripped every single page apart after being divorced because every page was a lie and I just wanted to save the pictures. What a waste.
