I went through all my teen years with nary a pimple! Then I get to my late 30's and bam!! All kinds of breakouts. I have used the same foundation for the last several years, just a Cover Girl one. But I feel like I need something better. It hardly covers all my issues, breakouts, dark circles, uneven skin tones. I use concealer also but feel like it's not doing what I need it to either.
I watched some videos on youtube but they talk about all these great brands that they buy at Ulta or Sephora. We have neither of those in town. I have a Target, a Beauty Brands and then a Dillards at our mall. I don't want to buy an expensive option online and then get it and it doesn't match or what not.
Anyone have a great full coverage foundation that they buy at a drug store? Or maybe some names of youtubers that you like that show videos on how to get great coverage with foundation/concealer.

I have a lot of redness in my skin so I use one of those green color correcter sticks to neutralize the redness then use L'oreals True Match Lumi foundation and I feel like I have good coverage.

I use the Rimmel Lasting 25 Hour one. I've just started using this one (thanks to the Peas) and so far I love it. I don't have the greatest skin, but this product gives great coverage without looking cakey.

About 2 months ago, I was low on makeup and heading out of town, so I just picked up some cheap brand at Walmart, that was going to be just for the trip. I ended up LOVING this makeup and when it runs out, I plan on replacing it with the same brand.
It is NYC - New York Color Smooth Skin Liquid Makeup - cost was about $5. it is very smooth and covers really well and is long-lasting. The color blends well too.

I've just started using Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour foundation. The one thing I find is helping with coverage is using beauty blender type sponge to apply it, bouncing it on (I can't think of a better description right now!) gives a better finish for me. I also use a Rimmel match perfection concealer under my eyes. If I have spots I use Rimmel Hide the Blemish on a tiny brush and just stipple it on.
Now I feel like Rimmel should be paying me for advertising!!

Urban Decay Naked liquid foundation. You should be able to get it at Dillard's, I get it at Macy's or Ulta.

L'Oreal's Lumi is beautiful!! Also, I like L'Oreal's Visible Lift Age Perfect foundation. Both have many color options.

Oh, and a dupe for Urban Decay's Naked foundation is Revlon's Nearly Naked foundation. Also a nice shade range.

Primer is first I get hard candy the pink one (sheer envy) and the gray one(dark spot). The pink one smooths out the you skin. I use the gray one under my eye or around it, Then for a concealer i use hard candy Glamoflauge it will hide everything

Thanks for all the options!! I will pick some up at Target to figure out what works best.
I also think I need a better concealer to cover the red. So I will have to work on that one also!!

Estée Lauder maximum cover double wear foundation is amazing. It can cover tattoos, but can be applied very much lighter if that's all that's needed. You can get a sample from an EL consultant to try.

I recently switched to Make Up For Ever HD and I think it looks really good. It doesn't have any SPF in it, though, so I have to use sunscreen under it.

I really like Clinique "Even Better" it gives nice coverage and makes your skin look perfect.
But I was interested that so many people mentioned Rimmel, because I grabbed a bottle - not sure which variety - from CVS one time when I was in a hurry and I just wanted something to get me through until I could get to the Clinique counter, and I was actually really impressed with it and it was dirt cheap. I like the Clinique a little bit better but for the price difference it's no contest.

I rarely wear full coverage foundation, I am almost always good with a tinted moisturizer. However, every once in a while I do want something more (like evening events) and no matter what I do I end up with cakey foundation. My skin is not oily, it is not dry. It can be very sensitive to new products, but overall it isn't red, broken out, flakey or anything other than just skin (albeit getting older not nearly as firm as it used to be.) ( ) What's the deal with the cakey thing? It just started in the last 5 years or so and I don't really know what to do to make it go away. (I am almost 50 if that matters)

I've used Maybelline Dream Liquid Moussse for awhile and it works really well.
ETA: I am 50 with dry skin but even 19 yo DD says it matches really well. That and lipstick is all I wear most days.

I second Urban Decay Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup (that's the full name of it). This is amazing makeup. I've been using it for the past 2-3 years. It covers very, very well, but it feels like you have nothing on. The best part? It lasts a full 12 hours. And you look dewy, not matte, and not shiny the entire time. I love this makeup and they just added a few more shades which is great!
I highly recommend this makeup. It isn't cheap, it's $40.00 a bottle, but then nothing great is. I happen to think it's worth it. My sister gave me her makeup to try (I forgot to write down the name) for one application, and it was one she bought at Sephora. She paid just as much and it felt terrible on my skin. Heavy and thick. I hated it. I went right back to mine and haven't looked back.

I am 51 and have some melasma type of discoloration on my face. Along with some weird hormonal stuff going on. On the recommendations here I picked up a bottle of Rimmel today when I had to run in WM. I am almost out of my Merle Norman stuff and didn't want to have to pay that price again.
THANKS ALL!

Regardless of which foundation you use, if you are trying to get full coverage the key is to start with a little, add a little more, etc. Then make sure you set it with powder.

I can just about get my makeup on! I watch a lot of tutorials on youtube and they talk about why makeup cakes, I just can't remember right now! I was talking to my dd's one day about how I can never figure out how to do my hair since my mom never taught me as a kid. DD asked me why I didn't just watch youtube tutorials. I laughed and then blew her mind when I told her that the internet didn't even exist when I was her age!! Unless your mom or the girls at school were showing you, you were pretty much self taught through trial and error.

I don't need heavy coverage so that isn't the goal. It is more to just to add a more grown up look to my every day look. And I do use a powder, but I swear it is the powders that make it worse. Is that possible?

Is that possible? It sounds like either the wrong foundation for your skin, or the wrong combination of foundation and powder. Of all the makeup, I feel like foundation is the most trial and error. I recommend that folks go to Sephora or the counters at the department store and try things out. Sephora will give you samples of almost anything. ETA: If you don't want full coverage, you might find that a CC/BB cream or tinted moisturizer is a better option.

For those close to or over 50 there is a site call Hot & Flashy where she reviews all types of makeup, foundation, primer, eyeshadow, etc. she tests both high end and drug store brands. She shows exactly what the different products look like at various times during the day. She also has You Tube videos on several different topics. I have learned a lot of tips just wandering around on the site.

Do you have a Merle Norman in your town? They really worked with my skin type and color. If you don't like it they take it back. Saves me a lot of money.

Dior aerosol spray. I love it. I bought it based on Pea recommendation. It is dry, non-greasy, and great. It is full coverage but very, very light. I love it!
