I finished three books this week.
Tricky Twenty-Two by Janet Evanovich. Basically the same story as the last 10 of the series. I keep thinking I will quit reading these, but I haven't yet. At least it was a really quick read.
A Doubter's Almanac by Ethan Canin. The story of a mathematical genius - this one is definitely a character driven novel. I really liked it, but it is not a book that I would recommend to a lot of people. You're left wondering if genius is a gift or a curse.
When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. The author was just starting his career in neurosurgery when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. It's the story of becoming a neurosurgeon, of being a patient after his time as a doctor, of being the dying husband, father, son and brother of a loving family. A very moving story - I thought the epilogue which was written by the author's wife after his death was especially good.

I'm about 3/4 done with The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair. This book was written in French and has been translated into English. It's almost a novel within a novel. A writer, struggling with writers block, goes to visit with his former professor and mentor. Shortly after, his mentor is arrested and implicated in the 30 year old murder of two women. The younger writer returns to the small coastal town (set in New Hampshire) to unearth the truth and begins to write a book about the murders. Not until I was reading it for some time, did I discover that it's being made into a movie staring Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling. It reads like a movie script, so I'm not surprised it's headed for the big screen. Even at this point, I have no idea how it will end...that's always good when an author can keep you guessing. I read this a few years ago and it really held my interest! I am listening to The Lake House-taking me a while since it seems like my listening time has been limited lately. Have a road trip for work later this week so I will get a few hours of listening in my car!

I finished A Man Called Ove and loved it! I started Hello from the Gillespies and I'm enjoying it so far. I mainly listen to books on Audible when I'm on the elliptical or treadmill and when I'm traveling. I have a bunch of e-books queued up that have been sitting there for ages. I really need to pick it up on the reading and quit spending so much time on the Internet.

Finished Harlen Coben's new one - Fool Me Once. Very good if your a Harlan fan. He doesn't disappoint. Are his stand alones better than Myron Bolitar? I gave up on those after the long lost child showed up and I got bored. People rave about Harlen Coben though, and I wonder if I should give him another chance. I think his stand alones are much better than the Myron series. Those books got cartoony really quickly. The wealthy and unhinged Win, the super annoying girlfriend, the wisecracking assistant, the mobsters.
