Both of my sons came home on weekends from college, so they were a little hard to miss. The boys are best friends and they are the ones who miss each other. I fear I will live the Everybody Loves Raymond sitcom in real life. As long as they are working and going to college, I feel like my little birds will never go that far.

At this point, I am just trying to keep busy. DS finished classes last Thursday and is currently working on a Senior Honors Project. On Tuesday, we have one Honors Night at the Career Tech Center, Wednesday, we have Senior Day for baseball, Friday, the seniors have a brunch, then go to the high school for their Senior Walk, which is a final walkthrough of the halls. All of the underclassmen line the halls. The following Tuesday is the Honors Convocation for the actual high school, followed by Prom on the 25th. Graduation is June 2.

I think the difference for me (and most of my friends and family) is that in this country kids don't move away to go to college (unless you live in a country town or regional area that doesn't have a university). So kids usually live at home while they attend university. If anything we're getting emotional that we have to put up with them for another 4 -5 years LOL! (j/k)
I do still get what you mean though. Every now and then I will see a clip from a TV show that my kids used to watch, like Hi 5 or The Wiggles, and I feel an almost overwhelming sense of nostalgia that can almost bring me to tears.

This is largely true of all of the people I know in Canada. When I was growing up in a fairly large city there, I didn't know a soul who went to university in another city, let alone province, and who did not live at home while in uni.

Not a graduation, but a wedding. In a week!
DD#2 is getting married next Saturday and then two weeks later DD#1 graduates with her MFA. I'm excited for them, but a tiny bit sad for me, too.

Nope my youngest of 4 is graduating on May 28th and if anything I can't wait to be done with school and all the crap that goes along with it! He has been our most difficult teenager and this past year has been horrendous in regards to his behavior and attitude. I really hope he moves out soon ugh I am terrible. I'll be right there with you on the "terrible" bench. My daughter #3 is graduating. I could have written everything else in your post. ((HUGS)) I understand how you feel.

My oldest graduated last year and I also got nostalgic when I went to her elem. school (her sister was in 6th so I was there a lot) and all the places we went when she was little. But I made it through the graduation and her dance recital just fine! I think because she was excited about college. If she was happy, I was happy!
Once summer when my daughter was 5, right before she started 1st grade (she didn't go to preschool or kindergarten), I was driving with the kids and heard "Through the Years", the Kenny Rogers song on the radio. I had tears because I thought of the fun years we had and was not ready for her to start 1st grade! I still get sad when I hear that song thinking back to that time.
She is going out of state to my alma mater! That made it much easier for me to adjust. And my daughter never gets emotional, including when we dropped her off at college. She waved bye with a big smile and had much more fun in college than she ever had in high school! She is 18 and is almost finished her freshman year in college. She has more/better friends there than she had with the kids she knew since 1st grade.
What you are feeling is so common with all the moms and dads when their sons and daughters graduate.

Advice I received when going through DD's graduation:
Try and stay focused on the gratitude that your child is able to accomplish these things, that she has the mental and physical abilities to leave the nest. Doesn't mean you can't/won't mourn the changes, but having that perspective helps to soften the blow.
Best wishes to all of you going through this right now - I'll be there next year with my youngest. . .

I understand. My youngest DD just informed me that it's 100 days to freshman move in day. I feel a little nauseous.

My oldest ds is graduating from high school next year, and I'm already getting anxious. I have no idea what the future will bring. we just got our first e-mail about senior year. They will be taking senior portraits in a few weeks. This is going to be the longest year ever.
