The earlier thread about our tastes in jewelry got me thinking....
How extensive is the average woman's jewelry collection?
I know it must vary widely, but I'm just curious.
I have very little jewelry, for various reasons. Those reasons include monetary factors, having to leave behind everything when I left an abusive spouse, not being gifted jewelry very often in my life.
I have mostly earrings (maybe 7-10 pairs)
I have three bracelets.
I have no rings or necklaces.
I know I have much less than most peas, and plan to eventually fill out my jewelry wardrobe.

Very little. Like you, when I left an abusive spouse I left everything behind. He gave me back my jewelry box but when I opened it anything of value (real or sentimental) had been removed from it.
My parents have been giving me some good quality earrings the last few years so I have 5 sets of gold earrings suitable for wearing to work or dress up occasions.

The only jewellery I have that's worth anything are my wedding rings and a really nice watch everything else is just costume. I worked in a shop that sold jewellery and had to wear at least 5 pieces a day that changed with the seasons so I have a lot!

I have a lot of very cheap jewelry. Earrings, rings, necklaces, and bracelets that were from $5-$15 each. I have exactly two pieces of "real" jewelry. Both sterling silver necklaces that were around $60 each. I've never been gifted real jewelry, I'd love it!

Not much here either. I don't wear any jewelry to work and have little occasion to wear it otherwise.

If we are talking "real" jewelry - very little - my wedding ring, another ring, and a necklace (I'm not much of a jewelry person)
If we are talking about costume jewelry - far, far less than most people - probably about 20 necklaces of varying styles and 5-10 bracelets. Only a couple of pair of clip on earrings because I can't wear pierced and I figure "what's the point" since most clip ons are ugly and hurt anyway
Jewelry really isn't my thing. On the other hand, if my glasses didn't cost the equivalent of a small fortune, I would have a different pair for every day of the month.

I have several fine gemstone and diamond pieces I inherited from my folks and I have quite a few pieces of costume stuff. And in between the two I have quite a lot of custom made items from DB, who made jewelry.
I wear it because I like it. I don't need a reason.

Not a lot. I have very little real jewelry, a couple of necklaces and my wedding rings. Most of my jewelry is costume and most of that is necklaces I've made myself. it amounts to less than 20 pieces over all.

I have quite a bit of "fun" stuff as well as my "valuable" stuff.
The valuable that I wear all the time- diamond & platinum engagement ring, platinum wedding band, white gold promise ring with a diamond and a blue zircon, a diamond ring with 5 diamond chips that came to me thru my nana- it was used as collateral for loans to pay rent during WW1 and originally purchased for 10 cigarette cases on the black market in germany, there is no jeweler's mark!, and my diamond and platinum earrings that came to me from my grandfathers mason's ring diamonds.
The fun stuff.... i make jewelry with swarovski crystals and glass beads. I have TONS of stuff! Anklets, bracelets, earrings (I made a picture frame with chain to display/store my earrings, and necklaces. I have more planned too!

I don't have much except a nice sized rock on my engagement ring. I used to have a lot of gold jewelry, earrings, necklaces and bracelets but have lost almost every piece so I quit buying gold. I even lost my wedding band someplace in this house.
What I do have is a very large collection of 1950s and 60s costume jewelry, the good stuff. My mom's best friend gave it all to me before she died. She said I was the only one that she knew who would appreciate all of it because it was out of style. I have pretty quirky taste. That was in the 1970s. I have the matching sets of necklace, bracelet, earrings and broaches in every color and stone. Lots of rhinestones, cultured pearls and fake emeralds, sapphires and rubies, beautiful things. I wear them a lot and people always notice and want to know where I got it. That stuff went from being out of style to desirable today and would be very pricy to replace it.

I have my mother's diamond rings, necklace, and earrings. I also have my diamond wedding set and tennis bracelet. I wear these most of the time and very little else.

Almost none. I have lovely wedding rings with a decent solitaire stone that don't fit now so I don't wear them anymore. I would have to get them resized and I'm just not that motivated. I have my mom's star sapphire ring that my dad gave her (and I fought my sister tooth and nail to get it so I would have something sentimental of my mom's to give to my DD). I have a pair of small diamond stud earrings that my aunt gave me for HS graduation--never wear those either. I have a couple of gold chains and a bracelet that I either don't like or are broken/kinked that I keep meaning to take in for scrap so I can get the money. I have a little bit of ugly 1980's costume jewelry from when I was in HS and the cultured pearl necklace I wore on my wedding day.
The only jewelry that I regularly wear are a pair of small gold hoop earrings that never come out and a cheapie Timex Indiglo watch. I have no desire for anything else and I can't imagine spending money on something I wouldn't ever wear.

I have quite a bit, nearly all of it good stuff - and probably wear less than 10% of it regularly. Normally I wear a certain necklace, a pair of gold love knot earrings, my wedding rings and a simple watch. Pretty boring! Lately I've been trying to get it out and wear it more often, but it's hard to get into the habit of changing what I wear. Most of it is semi-precious stones (coral, lapis, blue topaz, sapphire, pearl are some), just because I prefer those to diamonds. My engagement ring and a pair of studs DH gave me for college graduation are my only diamonds. Most of my things are sets (necklace, earrings and bracelet).

I have a lot, I guess, after reading this thread! I enjoy costume jewelry - there's a little shop near one of my jobs that sells imported jewelry for $5-$15 per piece. I often go there for a trinket when I get a bonus or tip from a wedding couple. I have a good deal of "real" jewelry, but it's not super expensive stuff (with a couple of exceptions). Most of that is sentimental gifts from family members. Daily, I wear my wedding ring, earrings, and a watch. Often I wear a necklace, and seldom do I wear bracelets. Many of my rings don't fit right now, but when they do fit, I often wear a ring in addition to my wedding ring.

I have a diamond wedding ring and band--small and gold. I was 19 and had no sense of my own style yet. I have a single necklace. Leather and silver. Necklaces make me feel claustrophobic. I don't have earrings as my ears aren't pierced. I have about 40 bracelets. And a major James Avery charm bracelet. I wear a bracelet every day. I buy them for myself. I prefer real estate.

I have a lot of family jewellery I've inherited. Some of it reasonably valuable. My mother's emerald/diamond engagement ring and ruby/diamond cluster ring are some of my favourites. But I also have a fob watch which belonged to my great great grandmother, plus a diamond brooch and several pairs of earrings from my great grandmother and grandmother. The women in our family have always seemed to be into nice jewellery and I've benefited from that. I've left quite a few pieces to my niece so I hope one day she appreciates them as much as I do.

I have some good stuff - my wedding set, and a sapphire ring with two small diamonds that I wear on my right hand that I wear all the time. I have diamond earrings that I rarely wear, they were a surprise gift from DH - I really would have rather upgraded my engagement ring. He told me I could take them back and do that, but I didn't want to hurt his feelings. I also consider these good stuff - a David Yurman necklace, ring and 2 bracelets. I have two rings from my grandmother that I don't wear - her solitaire diamond ring, and a diamond cluster ring but can't get rid of. If/when DS gets married, he can use the solitaire if he wants to for his fiancee. I'll probably give the diamond cluster to DGD for some special occasion - 16th birthday or HS grad? I also have a pair of handmade sterling silver earrings that I wear almost daily - they are pricey, but I've had them for years (first pair in 1993, lost one in the early 2000's and replaced the pair, and lost another one in 2010 and got my third pair. I consider them my statement piece and love them. Depending on the price of silver, I think I paid about $300 for each pair. But, considering that I don't buy other earrings and breaking the cost down by daily wear for 10 years, I think they are a bargain! edited to add - they are priced at $175 on the website now, so maybe I didn't even pay as much as I thought! Ronald Hayes Pearson Figure 8 earringsI have lots of costume jewelry that I rarely wear and am trying to figure out which consignment store here that they will sell for the best price. Most of it is sterling. It's basically clutter. Interesting question!

Good jewelry would be my wedding and engagement rings, a diamond necklace and diamond studs, a ring and earrings that are sapphires and diamonds, a pandora bracelet and 2 gold chains. I also just got a few pieces that were my mom's.
Now costume jewelry I have a ton of. I wouldn't even make an attempt to count the number of necklaces and bracelets I've made over the years. The good thing about making them is when I get tired of a piece I can take it apart and re-make it.

I think I am somewhere in the middle. A few nicer expensive pieces and quite a bit of artsy/trendy costume pieces. I can't wear earrings anymore (allergy) and shy away from bracelets since they bother me when I am typing. So, most of my stuff is necklaces or rings.

On a daily basis I wear my wedding and engagement rings and a nice watch; the current one is a Bulova, and I buy a new one every few years when I either get tired of it or it looks worn. I have a silver ring I bought in Mexico many many years ago, but that's the only other ring I own and I haven't worn it in decades.
I don't wear earrings, so I have none of those.
I have a couple heart necklaces with diamonds that were gifts from my husband. I have a couple dozen glass pendants and different chains to put them on. I haven't worn any of those for a while, but enjoy them as glass art, and will wear them again I'm sure.
I have a ton of beaded bracelets made in Nepal. I bought them from a local woman who sold them for a couple years. I usually wear about four of them at a time, when I wear them, which is most often in cooler months. I like the way they look with long sleeves rather than shorter lengths, and I tend to wear nothing but my rings and watch when it's hot.

I don't know the answer to that.
I have some real jewelry-my sapphire engagement ring, my gold wedding band, my gold necklace with a Miraculous Medal that I always wear, another gold chain with a St. Christopher medal my mother got for me when I was born. A gold signet ring my parent's gave me. That's about it. Very little.
Costume jewelry I have more-most of it is from QVC-I like their diamonique (cubic zirconia) pieces that are set in gold or sterling silver covered in platinum.
I also have a lot of I'm not sure what to call it native Thai jewelry that my sister sells in her business. She spends 4 months every year in Thailand buying for her business-she sells jewlery and textiles that are handmade in Thailand.
I love jewelry but I like great quality. Sadly QVC's quality has really gone downhill. Their diamonique 10-12 years ago looks so much better than it does today.
