We are building a house and wondered if all your kitchen appliances were the same or if it even matters. We are buying our own fridge but aren't sure we want to get the same brand as the rest of the appliances in the kitchen.
Part 2: we want to get a French door type fridge---if you have one would you recommend the brand you have? My sister has an LG one and loves it except that her ice maker broke at 14 months.

No, they all look similar and are the same color. Our fridge and stove are the same brand since we bought a new stove (Samsung). Out dishwasher is GE.

When we built a house, yes I wanted all the appliancs to match. In this home ( 15 years old), the stove has been replaced and when its time to replace the refrigerator and dishwasher, they will be the same brand

No - they're all stainless, but we chose the best appliance for that particular function.

No. We have stainless appliances, but they're different brands. We did the research and picked out the brands we want. We did choose the same brand for microwave & range because they do look consistent in terms of handles & controls, and the microwave is installed right over the range.
Range & microwave: Electrolux Fridge: Samsung Dishwasher: Kitchen Aid

Nope, I shop for the best appliance in a particular category. A Bosch dishwasher is fantastic. I don't know if they even make other kitchen appliances, but I am not going to give up a great dishwasher because it isn't the same brand as my stove.

Not the same brand but all stainless. Same. I have a GE fridge, Viking double wall ovens, Wolf range and Miele dishwasher. All stainless.

No because the stove and dishwasher were already here when we moved in. We bought the fridge when we bought the house. All are white.

My stove and fridge are Samsung. I love love love my fridge. It has french doors and so much room. If it was possible to marry a fridge I think I'd do it. I hated my old fridge and my Samsung is great. A couple weeks ago we purchased a Bosch dishwasher. So far so good. It does a great job cleaning the dishes and it's quiet.

I went with all the same brand except my drawer microwave. I noticed that not all stainless are the same color. Some are more blue and some more yellow. I wanted the same color of stainless.

Yes, because they were all installed at the same time. I don't see an issue with having different brands though, as long as they have the same finishes.

Nope. I never even thought about that. I want them to be the same color. That's it for me. (I have no advice about number 2 because I have sworn forever to never have a french door style fridge. )

Yes, but only because they were bought as a package deal by the contractor who fixed up our house after it was bought off the sheriff's foreclosure auction. If I were to replace them, they'd very likely be different brands to get the exact features I want but match in terms of color/finish.

All stainless but different brands. Cooktop - Wolf Wall ovens - Kitchenaid Fridge - Kitchenaid (really regret not getting the Samsung though) Dishwasher - Bosch Microwave and Wine Fridge - GE A Bosch dishwasher is fantastic. I don't know if they even make other kitchen appliances, They make great washers and dryers, but you can no longer buy the full size w/d in the US. They still sell the compact size (24") though. They are popular in high rise apartments around here because they are condensation dryers and don't require ducting.

Different brand, same finish. They were all purchased a different times, so buying the same brand wouldn't have gotten me the same style anyway.

We are kind of in the same boat ... we are replacing items as they break down ... so far I have a fantastic new stainless steel microwave and dishwasher ... different brands Unfortunately, my old white fridge and oven refuse to give up the ghost so half of my kitchen looks great and half is stuck in the 90's At least we don't have avocado or harvest gold

No - they're all stainless, but we chose the best appliance for that particular function. What she said! And as they break (age out) at different times, you're unlikely to remain matching if that's your goal.

We redid our kitchen and all the appliances are different but all stainless. We love our Samsung French door fridge.

We just built and ours are not the same. I chose each appliance based on function. They are all stainless, so they match, but none are the same brand. Our DW is Bosch. The fridge is Samsung. It is a french door. I like the way it looks, but about 2 months after we moved in it started making a terrible thumping noise when dispensing ice. I'm not very happy with it. My cook top is Wolf and the double oven is Viking.

Ours are not, they came with the house. We have Thermador double wall ovens (two thumbs up on them), Kitchenaid microwave, Bosch dishwasher (which I wouldn't replace with another when it dies because the racks inside are stupid, I would buy a Kitchenaid), Kitchenaid cooktop (which is pitted and needs to be replaced at some point), Sub Zero fridge. The fridge has wooden cabinet door facings to match our cabinetry, everything else is black.

No, but I probably would prefer to buy at least the stove and fridge (very visible items) from the same line if I found ones I was happy with.
Fridge is a white Whirlpool (cabinets are white so it sort of blends), stove is a stainless Kenmore with a black electric flat top (counters are black so it blends), microwave over the stove is a stainless Frigidaire with black accents - stainless on the stove and microwave match since there are so many different "types" now, dishwasher is a stainless Bosch. Sink is stainless.
Everything was Frigidaire when the house was first built, stainless with oak cabinets. However, in TX the owner takes the fridge with them and it isn't left with the house. We had a pretty new white fridge, then got the cabinets painted. We replaced the stove because the previous one was quite damaged on top, and then recently got a new dishwasher because the old one was super loud.
I think coordinating the look is important, but doesn't all have to be the same brand/line. If I was building and had the option, I'd probably look for a cabinet-front dishwasher and fridge, have built-in microwave and ovens, and then do a stovetop in the counter. Cabinet-front isn't everyone's taste, but when done nicely, I love it.

Ours are different brands- we buy best (recommendation, price, fit) according to appliance. Of course it's been years since we renovated our kitchen so they are different just because they're different ages too.
We have the Samsung four door, French door fridge, one year old. We use 3/4 as fridge and only a small freezer. Love it, but miss a traditional ice bin.
Have fun!
Builder houses have all the same because they're getting better pricing. Like having a variety of hardware and finishes, you can customize this!

If I were building new, I'd go matching. But, my current kitchen is a variety. I have a black/chrome built in oven from the mid 1990s. A stainless steel dishwasher (2012) an almond built in stove top (probably 1990s?) and a white fridge (on clearance and I could afford it)
Large appliances don't break down at the same time so they get replaced at different times... you won't always be able to afford to replace them all just to keep them matching.

Everything except the frig are Whirlpool, that's what came with the house. The refrigerator is LG french door, that I love, love, love. All the Whirlpool appliances are 17 years old and are in good working order. If I had to replace any of them I would choose what I bought according to features that are important to me. I kind of expect the dishwasher or microwave to be the first to go.
