I read The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah. I am surprised at how much I liked it. Also this week was What she Knew by Gilly Mcmillian. It was good but not as good as I had hoped. The ending was kind of..blah I guess. I also recently read The Beast by JR Ward. Love me some brothers! Was one of her better ones. Glad to see her getting her groove back, I have not been loving her recent books. This one I recommend. I loved The Nightingale! Like you, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Has anyone read Bittersweet? I am having a hard time getting into it. I read it and liked it. I went back and looked at my Goodreads review and I did say the first part of the book was a "slow burn", so it does pick up.

I'm currently finishing up "No Choirboy" - it's a teen book that was assigned reading to my best friend's kid in FL. I picked it up because one of the stories happened in our hometown when I was in high school. It's non-fiction with 6 stories about juveniles who were given the death penalty (actually, one story was about the family of a victim who advocated against the death penalty for the man who shot their son, and another is about an attorney who's defended death penalty cases). It's a bit of a heavy ready, but it's only 134 pages and has won several awards - I definitely recommend it.

I read one book this week, Pretty Baby, by Mary Kubica. I really liked it. 4/5 stars. A while back, I read a book that is not on GR, so I don't think that I ever put it on here. It's called My Absolute Journey by Serena King. I actually edited this book, but I honestly loved it. I have to say here that I do not like every book that I work on and do not agree with all of the contents of each book that I edit. Even so, I work hard to help the author effectively communicate his/her message. However, I loved My Absolute Journey. Serena tells the story of growing up in poverty, extreme dysfunction, abuse and chaos. She has overcome those challenges and is now a college graduate with a successful career. Her story is so inspiring, and she gives some advice and some practical journaling tips for the reader. I really enjoyed working with her. Lisa Is editing your full-time job? I have been doing some free-lance proofreading and I've edited 4 books now, but those gigs have come through word-of-mouth. I'd love to pick your brain about how to turn this into an income stream. I just finished The Orphan Train and really loved it. Hard to believe children went through that. I finished it this morning. Hated the ending. I do not like books that just suddenly end like that. She sees her daughter and then done. NOOOO!! I at least want an epilogue to wrap things up a bit. Otherwise I really liked the book, just not the ending.

I finished listening to the Lake House by Kate Morton and thought it was great. Actually while listening, audible sent an email that 2 of her other books that I put on my wish list were on the 2 for 1 credit sale so I have those ready to listen to. This is my second Kate Morton book, the narrator is the same and is really superb. I highly recommend if looking for an audio selection.

My reading lately has, sadly, been slow and I miss it. End of school year plus crazy soccer schedule of DD have me not getting near enough reading time. Next Friday completes the school year and I'm looking forward to summer break.
I'm currently reading Most Wanted by Lisa Scottoline. Hoping to finish up in the next day or two. Interesting story of ... what would you do if you used a sperm donor then see a man on the news being arrested for being a serial killer and think it may be him!

@lanabug, yes, it is my full-time job. I have been writing and editing full-time for seven years, apart from a brief stint when I taught full-time - my actual degree - for a semester for friends who run a charter school. I am not sorry that I took the job, but let's just say that I was really happy to go back to writing and editing. I have worked very hard to build my business and make it successful. I encourage you to supplement your income with writing jobs. Join writing groups on FB where writers hang out. Self-published writers need editors. I have lost track of the number of jobs that I have turned down because the writer wanted to pay me about $2 per hour, if that. I hold my ground when it comes to pricing. I know my worth. As I have gained more experience, I keep increasing my prices. Let me know if you have any other questions. I am sending you a message as well.

Currently reading NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. It's really creepy. He is Stephen King's son and his writing style is similar.

I've decided to dedicate this week to reading the finest literature ever written. NOT! That means, "It's not Okay" by Andi Dorfman. The Bachelor is cheesy, stupid and I just love it. Naturally, I have to read the book and see what happens behind the scenes.

I finished reading a thriller called What She Knew. Here's the summary copied from Amazon: Did you enjoy it? I just picked this up at the used book store! LOL! Sorry, I forgot to say that, yes I did enjoy it. It was one of those books that I couldn't figure out who did it.

I finished reading a thriller called What She Knew. Here's the summary copied from Amazon: In a heartbeat, everything changes… Rachel Jenner is walking in a Bristol park with her eight-year-old son, Ben, when he asks if he can run ahead. It’s an ordinary request on an ordinary Sunday afternoon, and Rachel has no reason to worry—until Ben vanishes. Police are called, search parties go out, and Rachel, already insecure after her recent divorce, feels herself coming undone. As hours and then days pass without a sign of Ben, everyone who knew him is called into question, from Rachel’s newly married ex-husband to her mother-of-the-year sister. Inevitably, media attention focuses on Rachel too, and the public’s attitude toward her begins to shift from sympathy to suspicion. As she desperately pieces together the threadbare clues, Rachel realizes that nothing is quite as she imagined it to be, not even her own judgment. And the greatest dangers may lie not in the anonymous strangers of every parent’s nightmares, but behind the familiar smiles of those she trusts the most. Where is Ben? The clock is ticking... So, you liked it ? Sounds good to me what I read above. Thanks. Yes. It was very good.

I feel stupid I had no idea there was a weekly book thread on here lol. This makes me happy!
I also just finished What She Knew. I agree with pjaye about wishing the ending explained more. It was to me wrapped up to quickly and neat. Like "ok here ya go now goodbye". I did enjoy the book.
I'm currently reading Still Missing by: Chevy Stevens. It's ok so far.
Another poster mentioned Pretty Girls and Most Wanted. Those are both on my "To Read" list as well.
I tried reading The Luckiest Girl Alive but I can not get into it...I'll try and jump back on it soon.

For a book club I am currently reading Menninite in a Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen. I am finding it incredibly boring but will trudge through. None of the characters are exceptionally interesting to me and it seems like it just flits from one random story to another.
We just chose the Luckiest Girl Alive for our other book club so I will probably start reading that next week.

I tried reading The Luckiest Girl Alive but I can not get into it...I'll try and jump back on it soon. I totally know what you mean. I reviewed it on the first page of this thread. but I had the hardest time getting into The Luckiest Girl Alive. My Goodreads review says this: I didn't like the main character and I didn't really see where the book was going, until I did. Then it was so much better! There was so much more meat to the book then I expected at first! So I say stick with it if you can. In the end it was a good book.

The Fireman by Joe Hill and City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin (3rd in the series, after The Passage and The Twelve. I'm going to get them after work and jump right in.. if only I didn't have to go to work the next two days! Currently reading two.. The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith (pen name of J.K. Rowling) and If Walls Could Talk: An Intimate History of the Home by Lucy Worsley.

I've just finished The House at the End of Hope Street by Menna van Praag. It was not my usual fare but I really enjoyed it. It's about a magical house that helps women in need. "the house does not give you what you want, it gives you what you need"
Very different was The Year of Living Danishly: Uncovering the Secrets of the World's Happiest Country by Helen Russell. Another book I enjoyed. The author and her husband relocate to Denmark for a year and she decides to find out why the Danes are so happy. Interesting stuff.

It usually changes at the start of a chapter and chapters average about 40 minutes so I didn't find it confusing, but some people don't care for that especially in audio format.
