I hear you - I too was not made for pregnancy, and it's never gonna happen again after this little guy. If I'm being honest, I'm most worried that diet will not manage this. I already eat fairly low carb/low sugar, and have done so for years. I'm definitely eating more carbs than I was before pregnancy, but that's mostly because that's what I've been craving - I've just tried to limit them because I generally feel better when I'm eating more veggies/protein/dairy. Exercise worries me too. I've got horrible sciatica, but I'm going to try and suck it up and get in as much activity as I can to keep this as manageable as possible. Hunt around for a swim class for pregnant women. Mine was taught by a PT and really, it was the best hour of my day. Working out in the water is kinder to your back and she would know just what to do with the aches and pains. And all the women wanted to do was talk pregnancy--I loved it. rebelyelle I just saw Basketlady's reply about swim classes. I agree 200%. I took swim classes for both pregnancies, at the YMCA on Kirkwood. We didn't have to be members to take the class. It was SO wonderful. Although, I remember one time there was this young kid as lifeguard and his eyes got a very big when he saw all of us coming out of the changing rooms, every one of us REALLY pregnant. hahahaha SaveSave

I had GD and pre-E with my first child. I have a family history of high bp so I don't know if the GD and pre-E were related in my case.
I did manage the GD with diet and a lot of finger pokes.
I did deliver 2 weeks early and he was fine.
I totally understand when you said you aren't a very good pregnant lady, I wasn't either. But you know it all comes to an end and you end up with a little human that you love so much that you can hardly believe possible.
Good luck.

@knot , I'm sorry your daughter is dealing with GD. It's been okay for me, some ups and downs, but it can be a pain in the butt when you're testing 4x/day and on a fairly strict eating "schedule". It's all manageable, as I'm sure she knows. I'm on glyburide at night because nothing I do with diet or exercise is controlling my fasting numbers. I'm at the max dose and I suspect the next step will be to put me on insulin, which would be a bummer, but I'll do what I have to do. I'm at 33 weeks and doing weekly NST's (because of the meds) and I think they said bi-weekly growth scans. I had one last week and he was measuring perfectly, so that was a relief. The diet isn't bad. It's more carbs than I normally eat, so that's been an adjustment, but it's fine. All of my post-meal numbers are great. monklady123, I've been doing a fair bit of swimming at Upton Hill, and at the high school across the street. I feel so, SO lucky to live in this county where we have so many clean, affordable options for public swimming. Although I will say that at this stage I am HUGE and I get a fair number of looks from the lifeguards and other swimmers. I want to scream "I have 7 weeks left, don't worry!" but mostly I just enjoy the extra room around me

I had it with both kids. DD was 7 lbs 8 oz. and DS was 8 lbs 14 oz. Both were a bit late and had to be induced.
As for the GD, I was surprised at how casual my doctor was the first time. The 2nd time, he had me testing my blood at home and recommended a diet that I followed somewhat.
I never had blood pressure issues and I was also somewhat overweight to start with.

I will suggest she looks into a place to swim for excersize. I hope the weeks go quickly for you and all will be easy in the end. Looking forward to a precious baby pic!
