if you've had one or know about them, please.
Will I be up walking around when I get home? Does it stop hurting when the procedure is over? Does it cause much bleeding?
Thanks!
This is to diagnose abdominal pain and an enlarged uterus.
_____ UPDATE: It was a few seconds of a biting sensation, then it was fine. Mild cramping afterward.
Thanks again for all of your responses and well-wishes!
____ UPDATE TEST RESULTS: Lab results were 'normal'. Woo hoo!

Mine hurt like hell while she was doing it. Then it was over. A little cramping after.

I work in GYN. The biopsy procedure itself lasts 1-2 minutes. Some people are very crampy, some people talk the whole time and don't feel much. Most people are crampy during and shortly after, but you'll be fine to carry on about your normal business the rest of the day. Most people have a little spotting (unless they are already on their period then that carries on). We let our patients take ibuprofen 15 mins before the procedure but check with your dr first.

It hurts. Not, "doctor she's bleeding out" hurts, but more than just uncomfortable hurts.
After I was able to go back to work, but was a little sore. I did spot, but they put this stuff that was like weird potting soil to clot the blood.
Um, and it falls out, later. Weird.
I was fine by that evening. From the biopsy, anyway.

I have had it done - it did hurt while she was doing it - like a very tight pinching and I had a tiny bit of spotting afterwards but the procedure doesn't last long at all (minute or so) and once she was finished, there wasn't any pain. It was too bad.

Mine was a very intense pinching feeling and then I was fine.

It hurt like hell for me, even after taking ibuprofen an hour beforehand. If I ever have to do it again, I would have someone drive me and I would take Vicodin instead.
ETA: Just to clarify, the procedure itself hurt like hell. I don't remember any discomfort afterwards or bleeding.

Mine felt like very intense pinching, made tears run down my face intense. Had a little cramping after but nothing too horrible. Went about the rest of my day as normal. Oh and a little spotting.

For me, it was just a bit of a pinch and then cramping that day. Praying it goes well and the results are good!

For me, it was some discomfort for a couple minutes and then over. It was no worse than menstrual cramps. Other people have had completely different experiences, but for me, it was no big deal.
I had a couple ibuprofen and I think I had some mild cramping after for a few hours, honestly I can barely remember so obviously it wasn't too bad. I was already spotting when I had the procedure so I can't say if it caused any bleeding or not.
I was out and about doing all my usual activities that day.

It hurt while she was performing the procedure...felt a bit like labor pains. Didn't have pain after the procedure was over.

ETA: Just to clarify, the procedure itself hurt like hell. I don't remember any discomfort afterwards or bleeding. The doctor told me to take 4 ibuprofen before hand, saying I'd feel 'discomfort'. I said, "The word DISCOMFORT isn't a term that I trust in this type of instance. I'm a sissy, can you prescribe me a valium?" she said no one had ever asked, and by the end of the conversation she threw in scripts for 3 pain pills as well. I was grateful for her listening and responding with the meds. I think we put up with painful procedures because of whatever reasons, and so many medical tests/whatnot could be improved with a little 'help'. Save

When I had one, my doc told me to take 4 OTC ibuprofen beforehand (and I did). It hurt for a short period of time, and then afterward it was pretty much over. I always get spotting after PAPs, and I did spot after this procedure but not for long. I also get the black weird stuff another poster mentioned.
After the procedure the doc told me this is the worst test they do without pain medication and at the time I thought your not doing that to me again without narcotics. It's been two years and the irritation has faded, lol
Best of luck!!

sharlag I am so glad you got a couple of pills to help. No need to be in pain when it can be avoided! Let us know how it goes - you'll be in my prayers!

Mine did not hurt at all. BUT, I had worked myself up so much that the minute he finished, I passed out cold. I had warned him ahead of time that I had major anxiety with procedures. He basically told me that no one had ever had any problems before so he saw no need to give me anything beforehand to help. It took a minute or two to wake up and recover and that doctor could not get rid of me fast enough.

I've had it done twice. The first time I had no pain at all and a smidge of bleeding after. The second time was a little painful but nothing that made me grit my teeth or have tears flow. For me it's the thought of what's being done rather than the actual pain. I think a lot depends on your doctor because it CAN be done painfree.
I passed out after my first pelvic exam. The next few after that I had valium and it was wonderful.

my doctor is absolutely evil regarding pain medication. He wanted to send me home with nothing at all after my hysterectomy. I had to have the nurse page him for pain meds and even then he only consented to eight Tylenol #4.
No way on earth he would have given me pain meds for this! Other than that I liked him a lot, though.
He's not my Dr anymore because I moved across the country. Maybe if I ever need anything else done I'll get a note sympathetic doc, though I understand they're really cutting back on opiate Rxs.fortunately I have a fairly high pain tolerance.

It felt like a strong period cramp to me and then it was over. I spotted a little at home for the evening.

I've had it done and remember a sharp pain during the procedure itself, but it was over quickly. I don't recall much discomfort afterwards.
Good luck with it. I hope yours is inconsequential and you get great results!

I didn't bleed or anything and there was no pain. I was expecting real *pain* and I got nothing. I wish you the same!

I've had one. Took a tylenol about an hour before and drove to the Dr praying and practicing yoga breathing so I would not be nervous. It didn't hurt at all and was over so fast. My Dr said she wished all her patients were as relaxed as I was. I thought "oh if you only knew!!!" No problems afterwards and results were fine. I hope yours are too!

I found it to be very painful, cramped horribly. I was still uncomfortable the next day. Hope you are one of the lucky ones who do not find it to be painful. Wishing you the best.

I thought it hurt like hell. No kidding, I told the doctor that I wanted to kick her in the face (because, you know, her face was right there by my feet and all). By the time I got dressed and out the door, I was ok. Slightly uncomfortable at times the rest of the day, but recovery was no big deal for me.

My cervix was closed tight so they had to reschedule. I opted for the OR and a general. Turned out that after other testing and a hysterectomy I did have stage one uterine cancer. It's gone since they took out the uterus and then the ovaries. So, maybe this is tmi. Sorry if it is.

For me it's the anxiety that builds up. I've got epidural steroid injections for my back injury. I request a little something extra because I get jumpy. I really shouldn't be moving when they are sticking needles in my back.
