You're welcome. I edited to add "August will be hot." There's a reason New Yorkers traditionally flee the city in August. But everything's air conditioned. In fact, shops will be air conditioned and have their doors wide open. Carbon footprint be damned...

Ha ha She's not long returned from a stint in Sri Lanka so she's fine with the heat. Unfortunately she didn't have a choice about when to go so she'll just have to deal with it:smile:

I agree. The key is knowing if you are going uptown or downtown. We have always made sure we have a neighborhood map saved on our phone. Not streets per say, just the outlines of the neighborhoods.
If I know I am in Chelsea and want to get to Battery Park I can quickly look and see if that is an uptown or downtown train. So helpful.

It's such a relief when you find one with a/c.

AirBnB! If you're going to pay $190/night for a Super 8 in Brooklyn, you might as well get a studio apartment in Manhattan for $200/night, which is about what we paid for the apartment we're staying in next week. Last time we were there we felt very safe in all the touristy areas and on the subway. We stayed in Manhattan, mostly in mid-town. Personally I would discourage her from staying further out because it sucks time to have to travel in and out of the city each day, but YMMV. I wondered if AirBnB was a decent way to find accommodation. Good to hear you had a nice experience.
