I keep making comments on Facebook to Cricut that we need an Offset function but it gets ignored. I know this sounds silly but it just infuriates me that I can go into the Silhouette software and type a word and it will join the letters together automatically and I can do a shadow with one click of a button and Cricut can't give that to us. The only reason I can think of for them not giving us that is they figure they can keep people in the dark who are not computer savvy so they will just buy the Cricut fonts.

A lot of customers have requested the offset function. They've been ignoring that request for ages.
I read that their CEO is the one who designed their software. Maybe he doesn't have time to make changes, but he won't let anyone meddle with his creation?
Of course, they make money by selling designs and machines. They probably have zero interest in giving customers any ability to actually design anything of their own. The name of their software is a farce.
It's sad, because the Explore is an amazing machine. For the money, it's probably the best personal cutter on the market. If their software was decent, they could totally corner the market.
My Explore gets the least use of my machines, because I can do more of what I need and want with my Silhouette software, and I don't want to have to take the extra step to import a design from Silhouette to Cricut Design Space. I did upgrade to the Business edition of Silhouette, so I can design what I want and cut it on my Explore, but I rarely need to. My Silhouette meets most of my needs.
I'm a stamper, so my Scan N Cut gets used a lot, too, for cutting out my stamped images.
My Explore just gathers dust until I need to cut something from my purchased Disney designs, or the infrequent times that I need to cut leather. It's really sad that such a good machine has such pathetic software.

So what does everyone think now that Cricut has finally decided they CAN offer us Design Space offline? Why did it take them so long? We will never get that answer but there was a time we were told it wasn't possible. Which most of us knew was BS. I'm guessing crafters may want to check out how much space they available on their hard drives. We will most likely have to connect to download any content that we need for projects. My laptop has issues with being online so I am hoping the offline feature will help with my laptop and DS. I can't always be on the PC because it's for the whole family.

You asked for opinions.
I really hope their announcement means that when they update their software, Explore owners will be included in those who can use the software offline. However, the cynical part of me wonders if it will only be available to Cricut Maker users, or for some new machine that is yet to be announced. It wouldn't be the first time that owners of "older" machines got left behind. They make money selling new machines, and they seem to release new machines fairly often. Based on their past track record, I am a bit wary about what this announcement really means. Will my Explore become a paperweight because the software update won't work of it?
Just in case, I need to start cutting the cartridge designs that I want to keep, so I can scan and convert them to Silhouette files. It's going to be a ton of work (I have over 100 cartridges), but the track record for Cricut/Provo Craft doesn't exactly reassure me.
Silhouette has NEVER left the owners of older machines unable to use the new software. Cricut could take lessons from Silhouette on taking care of ALL customers, not just the ones who buy new machines,

I still think there is going to be some kind of 'catch' to it. But I know, just from some of the craft groups I am in, that many Cricut users are jumping ship and going to Silhouette or buying the Business Edition of Silhouette Studio and creating their files there to cut with the Cricut. ust in case, I need to start cutting the cartridge designs that I want to keep, so I can scan and convert them to Silhouette files. There is an easier way It will still be work, but you could skip the cutting and scanning part if you want. You can open up your design in Cricut, it would be best if you can make it solid black. Then screenshot it (use either your Windows Snipping Tool, or the Mac Grab tool). You can then open that screenshot in Silhouette Studio and trace it. If you happen to have upgraded to Designer Edition or above, you can just simply copy the SNIP (windows) and PASTE it right on the Silhouette work space and trace. That would be so much faster.

A HUGE THANK YOU, iowgirl!!! I will have to find/figure out the snipping feature, but that will save so much time! I have the Business Edition of the Silhouette software. If I have trouble or questions, I will let you know. Thank you so much!

If you have Firefox you can use the screeshot feature. I know I waited so long for the offline function. Now this new Cameo announcement has me torn so much. To be honest I would like the Cameo more. If Cricut can not offer me higher DPI printing that is native in the Cameo Software, offset function then I don't know. I really would like a machine that has a knife blade, rotary blade, offset function and choices in DPI printing. The new Cameo's are so pretty, lol. I am a sucker for pretty colors. Really what is Cricut going to do now with their home machines when Silhouette just offered larger machines. You know the vinyl cutters just fainted. I am so happy for them. As a textile girl I actually teared up and gasp when I saw the new Cameo. Cricut always has the point it might be a paperweight. Cameo is a Graphtec machine. I am not limited to using their software or even limited to an Operating System like Cricut. I do love the Cricut machines. I think they are lovely. I am truly, truly, truly glad they offered us offline software after a bajillion years, lol. I also think they just can't advance unless they drop some of their stringent rules they put on themselves and their customers. Thanks die cutting companies you just threw me in for a loop, lol. I was telling my DH this weekend I really do need to replace my Cameo since it's on her last legs. This just gave me a good chance to do so with a machine that is much needed for me and how I do my creativity. scrapnnana I agree with you about if Cricut is only going to allow offline for new machines. This has me a bit shaky too. When you brought that up I was like "She is so dot on with that assessment." I don't want to be a downer or negative girl. I am not like that in real life. I like to support companies and people. I just feel over the years that Cricut has screwed me over time and time again. I have gotten screwed bad with them. Some of you know that, lol. Silhouette has always been lovely and consistent for me and most important no Drama. Silhouette just gave me their version of Cricut Maker. I trust them. I know you all remember I wanted the Maker and I was like "Oh, what's the catch" ROFL! I am truly happy about the offline software. I am also suspicious too. Isn't that terrible we all feel like that. I can see there are a lot of customers that do feel like that. That is not a social media mob type thing. That is a company with a bad track record thing. It's a shame they make good machines for hobby use.

amaylylac, my Cameo is still going strong, but I am thinking I need to start saving my money.
Silhouette is clearly trying to compete with the Cricut Maker, and I think they have a winner with the new Cameo coming out.
Provo Craft was truly innovative on the Cricut Maker, as well as the Explore machines, but the Cricut online software has been woefully inadequate for such good machines. I think the needs of the Cricut Maker are more likely to be the reason they are finally coming out with offline software. It may have nothing to do with customers' requests. I suspect that their servers cannot continue to meet the needs of customers, if Maker sales continue to increase. Of course, the new Cameo 4 coming out might offset expected Maker sales......
I will be delightfully surprised if the new offline software works with the Explore. I'm just not holding my breath. Cricut customer needs have been ignored by Provo Craft too many times, especially if they think they can get crafters to just buy a new machine instead. It's not happening here, though, especially if my Explore Air 2 gets turned into a paper weight.
I hope Provo Craft proves me wrong. I would be very happy to be wrong about them on this.

scrapnnana I know we keep saying all these years "I hope ProvoCraft proves us wrong." They never do and it's so frustrating. I think those of us who have been Cricut users since the beginning come to expect this now. That's been my sneaking suspicion too when Cricut announced offline software a few months back they the Maker can not function with online service. I had a feeling this is for the Maker. I really think it is since Silhouette just pretty much announced these new machines with different blades are now going to be the industry standard. You know Silhouette has always set industry standard. Cricut has always been a trend company. It is a good fit for both of them. Note to anyone who is a Maker fan. The machine is wonderful & lovely. I am so excited Cricut introduced this technology so our precious die cutting hobby and art form can evolve. I showed my DH the new Cameo today. He put my name on the list for when we can pre-order! Wow, what a surprise! He was so excited for me. He even said "You got your machine, finally!" I am really excited to have an advanced die cutter with the features I really have been lusting after since I got my first Wishblade, lol. When I buy the Cameo 4 I think that will be the end of my Cricut reign. I am ok with that. The only reason why I would use the Cricut is for my old cartridge designs. I really don't access them anymore. No nefarious reasons. I just kind of outgrew them. I will have no need to use a Cricut because I was keeping it around for heavy materials. I am super excited about the Cameo 4 and how this is going to really evolve my creations. I know when I got the SnC my die cutting changed so much for the better. I am already coming up with projects for my Cameo 4. I really do hope the Cricut offline software is great and wonderful. I hope it is a hit. A note to Cricut. Put an offset in. I am telling you guys leave that out and your customers will hate you forever, lol.

I will probably be getting the Cameo 4 eventually.....sooner if Cricut's offline software doesn't support the Explore machines. I suspect that if the offline software does not support the Explore, that they will keep Design Space running for awhile, but only for awhile. It will be like the Cricut Craft Room. The difference is that the Expression can still be used as a stand alone machine even without Cricut Craft Room. The Explore will simply become a hunk of junk if it doesn't have the software to support it. If my Explore gets turned into a paper weight, I'm sure I won't be the only one walking away from Cricut. Permanently.

I think it's very important that Cricut supports all their Explore & Maker machines with an offline software. If they don't then IMO they should be legally held responsible for the recycling costs on all the Cricut's that they outdated with their irresponsible decisions. The amount of Cricut's on the market that will be a paperweight due to their bad decision making is an environmental danger. They better have an action plan. Most electronic companies now have recycling programs. If they don't I am sure there will be some State AG's going after them. I know my State would.
I noticed tonight my WalMart had on clearance the Explore Air One and the Heat Press. You might want to check your WalMart's for clearance deals if you are in the market. My Walmart is remodeling and resetting their store though so that could be just my store. If your WalMart is on that reset/remodel schedule it might be worth taking a look.
