My DH is a musician and I sew so I totally get it. I've had people ask for my help as "friends" before and DH has gotten the whole "exposure" line many times. It's ok if it's someone who is just getting started and the venue really can't afford it. It was amazing how when DH started putting his foot down and refusing the gig if they didn't pay a reasonable amount he started actually getting paid to play. He doesn't get a whole lot, but it's better than nothing and their gig pay actually keeps going up. My vent today is my house is all of the sudden completely over run by bugs. Every year we have a small nymph box elder bug issue, but it only lasts a few days and then they are gone. this year my house is completely over run with them. It's happened very quickly and it's seriously disgusting. Now today I started finding fruit flies. I think it's time to find out if the local bug guy is worth recommending to my clients.

OMG, where do I start? My car radio worked perfectly before you...ACK...I just realized Freebird, you might know something about this with your glass biz!!! I'd love your thoughts on this! So, something literally fell out of the sky onto the hood of my car & bounced into my windshield, big dent in my hood, shattered windshield, didn't break completely through but tiny bits of glass hit my face & flew all over the inside of my car, going 70 mph on freeway. I think it was a bolt or something off an overhead freeway sign. Anyway, I took it in to get the windshield replaced & now my car radio won't turn on. The windshield has an antenna built in so they had to plug in the wire for that or whatever they do when they install a new windshield that has an antenna. Now, my radio is DEAD, won't turn on, no power, nothing. They checked the fuses, all is well there. They say, sorry, we didn't do anything. But it worked PERFECTLY before they touched it. I have owned the car for years & have never done a thing to the radio. UGH! Plus there are two surface scratches (like pin pricks, not rock chips) on the new glass, ugh! Why did I drive off without checking it.
OK that's frustrating. There might be an attachment that hooks the radio back up to the windshield, they might have it connected all the way or they might have possibly cut a wire on extraction. What kind of car do you have? I'll ask my husband when he gets home.
I can help somewhat here. Not with the technical stuff, but general knowledge. I work on the insurance end of things. A couple weeks back one of our glass vendors was in for a visit. While pimping her shop, she told us about a problem that has been coming up for glass shops when they replace the newer windshields with antennas and other various sensors embedded into the windshield. Once the glass shop gets the windshield in place and hooked up and whatnot, the electronics for the windshield need to be reset. If not, radios, windshield wiper sensors, and other various gadgets won't work. This rep works for one of the big nationwide chain providers and their techs are being trained on how to do it in the field. But, when the problems were first cropping up, the only fix they had was to get the car over to a dealership to have the reset/recalibration done. The bad part -- dealerships are/were charging a lot to do it. The good part -- insurance should pick it up as part of your glass claim, if you filed one.

I have an interview Friday and hope it's not as much of a waste of time as yesterday's. My current job is a snoozefest and I'm getting reduced hours anyway.

I am sad about the EU referendum result and very worried for my future. I could cope with it better if people didn't keep saying they hadn't MEANT us to leave and they'd change their minds if they voted again.

My vent #1: SIL from hell was in town for a few days. DD played nice and stopped by with me after the two of us had our hair done. SIL gets her alone and brings up an incident that happened TEN years ago. At that time she included a note in DD's gift that said "You are so much prettier when you aren't whining". Now DD is a sweet woman and was a sweet kid. It was just mean. Now, ten years later she says "it was taken out of context". Um, no. Vent #2: DH is on a strict diet for his pancreatitis, not to mention cancer and a heart attack. I have told his mother many times LOW FAT. She made salmon for him last night. It's not the first time she's done it. I told her when we were at her winter home and she had salmon out that he could not eat it. We ran to the store and picked him up a Tilapia filet that day. She had no memory issues. And, I have told her it doesn't matter that it is good fat. Fat is fat when you have pancreatitis issues. ARRGHH. Unless his Dr said no on the salmon, I've always heard that the omega 2 in salmon was good. Yes, it is a good fat. But, not if you have chronic pancreatitis issues. Then low fat is necessary, whether good or bad fat.

I dont know if my vent is a vent, per say, or just being sad. But.... My dad. He remarried 8 months after my mom died and has become a completely different person. He used to love to paint...now his wife is the artist and dad doesnt ever pick up a brush. He loved to cook...now they eat out 3x a day (for real). He no longer volunteers like he use to, doesnt talk with all his friends anymore. Never makes time for his grandkids. He used to get up early every day - now they sleep in until noon because the wifey is a night person. My invoice either says Net 10 days or Due upon Receipt. I don't care what company you are, these are my terms. I am a small business, not a bank, and I need my money. Did I rush that order for you because you forgot you needed signs for that event? Then I expect you to rush my money please. And to the hospital down the street - again, NET TEN. NOT 60+ DAYS. Let me be 60 days on my hospital bill and see how fast they turn me over for collections. Also, dearest DH. I love you, like really really love you. But please don't wait until I have to beg you to trim the tree branches and vines that I can't reach that are overtaking the fruit trees and the chicken coop. Also, the sprinkler head that YOU noticed was broken and leaking a river of water is still broken 3 weeks later. you said it was an easy fix?? What's the hold up, boo? Oh and the fence you said you were going to repair…did you notice that the board in question is now laying in the yard?

We've been married 29 years, and he has lots of wonderful qualities, but he is not handy with tools or paintbrushes or sandpaper or -- well, anything even remotely useful in home maintenance. It's exhausting. On the other hand, he's very nice, keeps his job, pays the bills, and is nice to the pets/children in his life. So. I just wish we were wealthy so I could hire someone to do all the stuff I can't do. My house and yard are depressing, dang it.

The man can build or fix ANYTHING. We rarely have to hire out for anything because he knows so much about how shit works and how to fix it. It's just getting him to do it! I get it, we get off work and we are beat and drained, especially this time of year when we are so busy and outside so much with our work. But stuff still has to get done right? And I know he wants to go play golf or go to the driving range, I do. But dangit. I work in the yard every weekend and there is only so much I can do by myself. It does get old. Your DH sounds like a keeper though!

My vent are the people who see an ad on CL or our town's FB buy/sell page, contact the seller, set up a meeting and then are no-shows or assholes.
I am so done. Because people suck.
Last week, I sold a great item at a very reasonable price (but not dirt cheap) because I wanted it gone ASAP because it was large and taking up room. Guy comes to pick it up, hands me the money, takes item, and then says, "You are a stupid idiot for selling it this cheap. Dumb broad." BAM! Slammed door right in his face, possibly and hopefully hit his nose in the process.
In the last 3 days, I had 6 meetings set up to sell 2 other items. Out of those 6 meetings, only one person actually showed up and bought the item. THe rest were no-shows. One no show actually then sent me 20 nasty messages and I had to block her. And the total asking price for those 6 items was $30, so totally not worth my time and aggravation.
I give up trying to sell via those sources. We will have one last moving sale and anything that doesn't get sold, goes to the thrift store.

I like my mornings of getting ready for work alone. Please do not get up a 6am and come out and lay on sofa yawning like you are totally exhausted. Go back to bed, come back out after I leave for work. I don't need to hear or see that.

Apparently you need my skill set for something or you'd do it yourself? So why are you upset when I ask for a fair price, I even cut you a deal! Sadly it's another ARTIST. Too bad she was so rude, I was going to tell her about a local opportunity to get her artwork seen by more people but she cut me off so... sorry. Add your vent. I'll probably have more. People have been dicks the past couple days. When's the next full moon? My daughter is a student trying to supplement her meager income with photography. She started by doing unpaid work while building her skills and portfolio of portrait, product and travel photography, and does nice work.
* Urban Outfitters requested permission to use one of her photos in their store. "It's not our policy to pay for photos, but you will get great exposure. And, no, there will be no photo credit on the photo." * She charges $150 for a full day shoot with editing. She is constantly being asked to reduce her rates or do it for free. The latest person asked her if she could shoot from 8am to 10pm for that rate so that they could get shots at various times of the day. And could she print a book for them? Um, no.

I told her politely that I was throwing in the digitals for no extra charge but I normally charge for those. She still seemed put out. Oh well, she'll be back and we'll see if the price is still the same. I know I work in the service industry, but I'm not a servant. I'm a person, treat me as such.

I'm knocking on wood of course.

People have been dicks the past couple days. When's the next full moon? If it makes you feel any better, some people expect lawyers to give them free legal advice in every area of the law. The worst is when people ask you a very specific question and you actually do the research for them and they respond by saying, "that's good to know. The situation I told you about hasn't actually happened yet, but I was just curious what would happen if it did." I gave out a lot of free advice when I first started practicing law, but I don't any more. I've learned to say "I don't really practice that area of the law, but if you'll call my office I can refer you to an attorney who practices in that area." Want to to guess how many people make the follow up call?

Urban outfitters should be paying mega bucks. That's bullshit. I wouldn't even do it for a photo credit because no one hires you from some little credit they see on a poster. Bitch, pay me. As for the other stuff, she needs to raise her prices if she's good enough for urban outfitters to be interested. Will she lose a lot of customers? yep. All the cheap crappy ones she doesn't want anyway. Once that price goes up she'll gain legit customers she's not getting because they're wondering why she's so cheap!

We don't refer out to the big shops often and prefer a small locally owned shop when we make referrals. But, it was the two biggest in our area that told us about the problems with the windshields with sensors in them.

DH is service manager for a large RV dealership. So many people call and want directions so they can fix it themselves. They are often not happy when they are asked to book an appointment. Entitled much?
People want something for nothing.
