And how often do you get to say that? Rubbing one of the gang's belly, I noticed she appeared to only have 4 nipples. "Well that seems odd", I thought. Off for a consultation with Google, resulting in the following:
How Many Nipples Does A Cat Have?
There isn’t one set answer for this. Cats almost always have an even amount but cats have been known to have odd amounts as well. As for the number, cats can have as little as 4, but as many as 10! The average numbers being 6. Yes, this includes male cats as well! Some kittens from the same litter may have different amounts. You can have 2 kittens with 6 nipples and 4 kittens with 8 nipples. Sex doesn’t change the number, but purely genetics.
Imagine if people had varying numbers of breasts. The bra department would be even more frustrating. "Well I like the style of this one, and it comes in my size, but they only stock it in 2 breast, and I have 4"
I told DH his chore for tomorrow will be to perform a full nipple count on all 5 cats. I like to keep him busy, you know. (He's retired)

Well, no cats here so I googled about dogs - they can have as few as 6 or as many as 10. My two dogs are on a walk with dd before the fireworks begin so I will report back later.  |

And if I tried to count either one of my cats nipples, it would result in a trip to the ER for stitches and I'm not certain how I'd explain it.

Well one cat would let me check.
One would scoot away and we would not see her for days.
The other one would bloody me up and I would end up at the ER.

I have 3 cats. 1 that will for sure let me count, 1 that might let me count, and 1 that will gladly take my arm in exchange for counting. I love you guys but I'm not prepared to lose an arm. I'll see what I can do and report back. eta: i seeked out my fur balls...... the 1 cat that would let me count for sure has such thick fur that I can't even find one! He's loving life tho because he just got an awesome belly rub/scratch/massage. LOL Drool all over the place from him! the other cat that might let me just came by and got some belly rubs. I could only find 2. I am no good at finding kitty nipples. LOL |

I can not remember the circumstances exactly. My husband read something, heard something, I don't know...and was telling me. Basically, that animals' nipples are symmetric or something. The critter with the 7 nipples happened to be the one I was giving attention to at the time. It's why I think it was the oldest cat. But, could possibly be the female pup. Anyway, I was checking for symmetry and she is not. It isn't completely obvious until you actually pair them up. LOL! I have a bizarre need to verify things. And this was easily verifiable, or not as the case turned out. |

I was taught as a kid that the fewer nipples the smaller litters of babies. Not sure if it's true or not, but my cat I had for 17 years, had four nipples and never had more than two kittens ever.

And apparently bunnies normally have 6, but can have both more or less, and odd numbers are common. Only one of ours likes belly rubs, so I don't know how I can verify this, though, but I'm willing to give it a try in the name of science |

Anxious boy: Wait. What? Cat nipples?? He is a boy. He doesn't need nipples. Why does he have SO many??
Anxious mom and anxious boy have a discussion about cat nipples and boy nipples and the word nipple got used so much that it became funny. Nipple, nipple, nipple, nipple, cat nipple.
Such is the world of anxious mom. Nipples and cats.

Has anyone researched dog nipples? My sister's Frenchie has 11 nipples. Two of them are in the same place! I was giving her a hard time about her little freak of nature, and she asked me how many my beloved corgi has. So I counted -- 9! But at least they all grow in their own space, no weirdo two-nipple nipples.
Oh, this place is wonderful!
