Oh and *Ethel* heard her oldest granddaughter was getting married at the courthouse. So she put her walker in the trunk of the car and made the drive. It couldn't be missed! When she got there, so many people showed up, the clerk suggested they do it outside. Ethel thought that was an excellent idea! It was a wonderful day.

My favourite recent local 'news' story: linkHow do these things even get published?! ETA not local to me. Not a small town either!

Like I daid, my town is too small for a paper, but there is one for the rural area I live in (it is probably 40 miles n/s and 20 or more e/w). My favorite thing they do is print the entire senior class's senior photos from the various school districts. So there are 6 or so pages with Congratulations School 2016 Senior Class! And then each picture and name is there. It is a nice keepsake. They did this in my town as well. Also we kids made the paper all the time. It's fun! I have a copy from making his honor roll for 5th grade. (I was a good student so my mom didn't keep them all). I was also in the paper for interviews on local issues in high school. It makes the kids feel like they matter and are important to the community. It's about the only small town thing I liked.

this totally reminds me of an "Andy Griffith Show" episode where someone living far away subscribed to the town newspaper so by the time he moved to town, he knew about everyone and all the goings on. it freaked the residents out but he just liked the small town feel that the paper gave.

Usually somewhere between 40-50. If we've got space we'll also run the other school in the county - they average 7-9 per class. They also fill out a little profile that tells their parents names, interests, future plans, etc. I always enjoy reading them.

I love it when people sign in from Facebook to make their comments and we can see who these idiots are posting comments on every single article.

Our village is 500 people the next town is 1000 and there is the rural area around it and a few hamlets. Our paper doesn't run a police blotter, it will report "larger" crimes. The paper comes out once a week. It does run all the high school graduates pictures, even prints the valedictorians speech. The lodge and seniors group has a column and they will write that "Ann and Bob had her sister visiting from -- last week" or that vise versa "Ann and Bob traveled to -- to visit her." Gossip just travels fast through word of mouth, can't wait a week for the paper!
