This world is so fucked up. We can't even go a week without reading this kind of crap. People continually bag on the USA for all of our gun violence, but there are clearly evil people all over, using any damn method they want to kill innocent people. What is wrong with people? What in the heck is making so many people do such horrific things?
It's to the point that I almost hope I never get any more grandkids, as I hate the thought of them born into this whacked out and hateful human race. Sorry for the negativity. I try so hard to be a peaceful minded and optimistic person but it's truly getting harder and harder each day. Once again...prayers to the families and friends of those killed.

Up to 75 in Nice and *250* in Iraq. My heart drops when I hear "breaking news" on the TV. In the past, it usually was something that was nothing. Not so much anymore.

Our local news reported that the van was full of guns and explosives. So sad . The world is becoming a scary place.

Prayers to those in France. Our friends are touring the Cote d'Azur now - I have no clue whether they're in Nice now or not. We land in Paris in a week, my parents were already freaking out. The reality is that none of us are safe - these poor people out celebrating Bastille Day - damn it just sucks.

Oh my gwad... What pieces of shit. Like just what the frucks. The human race sucks. And why in the hell does CNN need to have a linked video of the actual attack? That is exactly what I was talking about in the "What do we do" thread. Seriously CNN you suck!

All of my friends are becoming grandparents, and I cannot wait to have that opportunity. But recently, I honestly lie awake at night and wonder if I really want grandchildren brought into this world. It is sad and terrifying. And then I wonder if our grandparents and parents felt this way with things that were going on when we were young. My heart goes out to the people in Nice and all of France.

I've been watching it on the news here - I just don't now what to say anymore. They have just updated the death toll to 80. That's bad enough but if it's true that they are saying the truck contained grenades & explosives then it sounds like it could have been much worse.
I think it would be better if the men responsible weren't always killed at the time, at some point we have to find out how/what happens to them to get them to do these heinous things. They just had some expert on TV (didn't hear exactly what his speciality was) but he said he doubted this was a "lone wolf" situation that he would have had to have had a lot of help to get as far as he did in that truck (ie: other people letting him through checkpoints etc) and also to encourage him and build his confidence. If these men always get killed at the time we'll never have any hope of trying to find out the psychology & mindset that leads to these sorts of actions.

I thought that as well until the Aurora theatre shooter's trial. Everybody knew the asshole was guilty as sin and we all knew that the trial was really more of a death penalty or not, but when it came down to it, one person on the jury knew from the time they were picked that they were going to vote against the death penalty. It was a waste of time, resources, and the emotional toll it took on the victims, witnesses, and family was astronomical. He didn't testify and so only the evidence spoke for him and I think we would have gotten that anyway. It would have been better if he would have died that day. The only good thing is he will spend the rest of his life put away, but we as a society has to pay for it. I hope he is miserable.

While not everything may come out in a trial and not everything will be made public, I am sure that the police/psychologists/doctors/lawyers etc do still get valuable insights into the mindset of people like this and it helps to increase our overall knowledge of how and why this occurs....and hopefully over time, how to potentially be better at detecting them before they have a chance to act. My point wasn't about punishing these people as obviously being dead is the greatest punishment...my point was about professionals having 'live' specimens to talk to, study and analyse. Once they are dead, it's all just a guessing game as to what lead them to act.

I find that sometimes when I hear these things or think about them, I feel so sad. Other times I feel angry. Yet other days, frustrated. Some days I feel like we can fix this mess if we try. But some days, at some moments, I feel hopeless and defeated by it all. Save

I can't even articulate how depraved this is to me. Pure evil. Why do we see again and again, those willing to die while killing innocents? Again and again. I can't wrap my mind around it and I don't want to.

Omg I have no more tears..no more words..
I'm not over the attacks in Paris in November yet. The 5 police officers in Dallas last week. Now this?! This has to stop.
Death toll at 80. One man whom police have killed. He drove a moving truck into a crowd leaving a Bastille Day celebration.
I just can't. I'm done. I'm getting in bed, pulling the covers over my head and just letting my mind go to some imaginary place where this crap doesn't exist.
Seriously this has gotten so beyond ridiculous, so surreal that I wonder at times if I've not lost my mind...if this isn't some drug induced madness as I'm laying in my asylum bed with my family wiping drool off my chin whispering "poor thing"....
Prayers for all tonight. Just prayers.

I'm alternating between feeling heartbroken and feeling furious.
So many innocent people dead and I'm sure the survivors' injuries will be horrific. So many lives changed forever.

I've gone through sad and I'm so bloody angry now. What is the human race coming too ? We behave so much worse than animals . I am not taking credit for this.... And I think MOST. Of the human race agrees with me

I only heard that it had happened, has it been confirmed as a terror attack already? Reports are that after the driver plowed into the crowd and kept on driving and killing people he was engaged with the police and started shooting people. He was killed by the police. Just horrific. I saw a clip of this on the news this evening. At the time, they only said that a vehicle had plowed into a group of people, which is bad enough but this further news is horrific! Prayers for those families whose loved ones were caught up in this.

I believe I've read that death is their 'reward' so not killing them would seem to be desirable from that pov too, to prevent them achieving that aim, although of course amid scenes of chaos and terror just stopping them is all that the police are trying to achieve.

So horrible. I don't understand this world anymore.
I love traveling but everytime I read these news I start thinking that maybe it isn't a good thing anymore. Why not stay here where it's relatively safe? It takes few days to decide that I don't want to be afraid, I want to live my life and I don't want to let the terrorists win.

It is so horrible, I'm a mix of horror and heartache for all concerned.
I will admit that I am relieved that my DD13 is just home from the French Mediterranean Coast, where she and a large group of her schoolfriends were on a school trip. You have to let them go and experience and explore but you are still on tenderhooks while they are away.

Absolutely devastating. I understand why these fanatics do it but not why they become such fanatics. Apparently guns/explosives were fake. And the death toll has risen to 84. Unimaginable and sickening.
