Watching the RNC. I am disappointed with the high profile Republicans what have chosen not to attend. If you can't unify within your own party, how do you expect to unify with the Democrats? To the leaders from my state Sen. Mark Kirk, and Gov. Bruce Rauner who chose to not attend, not only have you lost my vote but more importantly my respect. I agree. Sometimes you suck it up and join the team.

They showed the crowd and it looked empty. They left after Melania. She did a good job. They should have ended on her and left the attention on Trump. She was very positive and shone the light on his good points.

They are looking toward the future if he doesn't win.

Ok, I am listening to the hispanic mom who's son was killed by the drunk illegal alien. I cannot believe he only got 35 days for killing that man. So sad! Both are an issue. The fact that we don't have stricter DUI laws (or at least they aren't upheld) and the fact that those that are here illegally aren't dealt with better. Yes, many Americans are killing others with DUIs. However, in this instance had that man not been here, his life would have been saved. I am watch CSpan as well. No commercials or commentary. SaveI agree that the illegal immigration issue needs to be handled better. But I think that should be a policy discussion, not trotting out a bereaved mother to tell how her child was lost to someone here illegally. Her loss is tragic without a doubt but is not made worse because the person was illegal. They selected her to emotionally manipulate the audience and to feed the xenophobic, racist groups that are flocking to Trump. It's no coincidence that his campaign has over and over "accidentally" used images, information, tweets, etc. from overtly racist groups. They are pandering to the lowest of the low and this was yet another example.

Sometimes you suck it up and join the team. Well, you can look at it as if they should support the "team" even though they don't support this particular candidate - or you can look at it as they have personal integrity and will not pretend to support someone just for the sake of party unity. I don't vote just for a party - I vote for the individual I believe to be the best candidate for the position. I actually have had more respect for Mark Kirk because he has been willing to speak out and disagree with Trump and the party.

The guy after Melania had a tie that looked like a candy cane. I couldn't really focus on what he was saying. I just kept thinking about Christmas.

This Iowan is laughing her ass off that our awful Senator Ernst gave her big prime time speech to a less than stellar crowd, or at least who is left there...

Not everyone may agree but 99% of my friends feel the same way. I finally had to turn it off which is disappointing. I am all for unification but I can't support him. I just can't. Or Hillary. This election sucks and may be the end of the Republican party.

And this is why I hate politics and hate party lines and am an independent. Once the "pastor" started spewing about the parties being enemies and we should keep the divisiveness going I couldn't watch any longer.
The parties are so busy hating one another, they've both completely lost focus on what they should be doing for the people.

Ok, just watch that singer guy sing Brown Eyed Girl about a verse and a chorus and then stop abruptly to We are the Champions and Trump. Can they use those small pieces of songs without permission? Is that why they aren't doing the whole songs? I wondered this too. Along with what would Freddie Mercury think, and does the RNC realize he was gay and died of AIDS? So far this is the most incoherent convention I've ever seen.

There were some issues that made it seem like a high school production at times.

I really can't fault her...she wants answers, a reason for her son's death, and the truth is he was killed by terrorists during war. But putting her up there, along with others like her is just cruel.

It's interesting that there are "similarities" between Melania's speech and Michelle obama's from previous convention, to the point that it is being labeled as plagiarism.
MSNBC is saying that it could have been a deliberate act of sabotage by the speech writer. Unfortunately it will backfire because Melania and Trump will look like victims, even though she said earlier that she wrote the speech with just a little bit of help. I am not sure what to think. It actually seems more like something an amateur would do (leek Melania) rather than someone who would put their whole career on the line.

Don't know why this tweet won't embed, but it shows the relevant, highly similar passages between Michelle Obama's speech and Melania Trump's.
Bottom line, whether it was a rogue speechwriter or not, this is Trump's campaign. It's one unprofessional mess after another. Can you imagine what his presidency would be like?

Holy crap! How embarrassing. After reading the transcript, I got a kick out of her, THE THIRD WIFE, talking about loyalty.......there is only TWO things The Donald is loyal to and that's the almighty buck and himself.

I'm rooting for Scott Eastwood to come out. He can talk to anything he wants to ... or not talk at all.

I watched it twice, once on NBC and then later on Fox, so I could hear both sides of the commentary. There were some very powerful and patriotic speeches given tonight.

It will be interesting to see how the campaign handles this. I still am not convinced that she didn't write the speech. It seems more in line with that--maybe she remembered that speech and was moved by it so wanted to say something similar. I don't know how educated she is or how knowledgable she is about plagiarism or that people Would recognize the speech?
Someone on msnbc just pointed out that if this had happened to Michelle Obama, would she have been given a pass and would people be assuming my that she didn't write the speech even though she said earlier that she did?

He is a democrat who was the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency for President Obama. He was also vetted as a possible vice president for Trump. He's not very well known unfortunately, which is why many left I'm sure, but what he has to say, America needs to hear. SaveSave

I hate the "if this would happen to..." argument. The fact is, it didn't, so we have no idea what would have happened. I can see wanting to echo some of the words of Obama's speech, but this isn't remembering them and saying something similar. This is out right taking those words and putting them in a speech without giving credit. One check by someone who should have proofread the speech would have shown that some of it was plagarized. And if they didn't bother to check it, then someone dropped the ball. Even if SHE wasnt knowledgable, the people in charge should be.

Melania Trump is as big a liar as her husband. She told Matt Lauer that she wrote that speech. And the fact that it was ripped off from Michelle Obama is hilarious. Trump stealing/copying Obama is really rich. My god we are doomed if the American people don't wake up.
