Cute, but the GOP paid to license the use of the songs played in the arena. Nobody will be suing.

it is very disrespectful to use music when the originator is saying... I don't want you to use it. legal or not.

If you put it out there so that people pay rights to use it then I don't get the argument. If you don't want it used for things then don't make it available for licence purchase. I feel like I'm missing something. But I haven't had time to watch the clip yet.

I don't know why "We Are the Champions" would seem out of place? Especially for Donald Trump who keeps claiming we're going to win so much you'll get tired of winning. Or something to that affect. Seems a perfect choice to me, for that mindset.

I love John Oliver. I mean, it would have been better to have BOTH Oliver and Stewart for this election, but Oliver has proven to be absolutely cathartic.
BTW, found the longer version of this segment...

Trump is not endorsing their life by playing the song, any more than they're endorsing him because he used the song. They made it available to purchase license and the GOP paid to license the use of the songs played in the arena.

I don't believe it is confirmed yet that they did pay the license.

I don't believe it is confirmed yet that they did pay the license. According to Sean Spicer, communications director for the Republican party, they have.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "legal or not" so I'm going to guess that you mean even if the license is purchased, that the originator should still retain the right to say no if they don't agree with the cause? I'm not sure about that. That would be sort of like, oh, I don't know - a bakery that is open for the business of making wedding cakes refusing to make a wedding cake for a gay wedding. And didn't we already have that debate?

I guess I had read in multiple sources that they didn't and so I wondered why they would use it. It has also been reported repeatedly that they have been asked to stop using it since June. Not sure why he would continue to use that song.

That seems fair to me.

If a fee is paid to use a song that's just the end of the "debate." Too bad if the artist doesn't want them to use it. It doesn't work like that. It's a product for sale and it was purchased.
If it wasn't paid for its crappy. Also, the song was pretty funny.
