Today is a very busy day w/dh doing some last minute gardening and packing in order to take youngest ds on a whirlwind college tour. If a university isn't nailed down they'll be walking that campus. I could never keep up. So, I'll listen from here and wish them well. Hard to believe we're at this point. For those of you w/little ones enjoy the time, because it truly races by and before you know it you have teenagers and college.
Youngest ds is working tonight and that leaves 2 mouths to feed. I'm not sure what I'll do. We had tacos last night. Tonight might be salad and corn on the cob from our local farmers market.
What's on your menu?
Have a terrific weekend and I hope it's really fun for everyone.

DH is in the kitchen right now making some slaw for dinner. He will be grilling some pork burgers later. I may roast some potatoes and onions to fill the plate.
ETA - I hope you all have a great weekend! We have enjoyed seeing the sun today after a very stormy week.

Today I'm back to "I have no idea." We're at the condo doing some things while my stepson paints. DH just left for his third trip to Lowes today and is stopping to get us lunch on his way back. We're alone for dinner tonight for the first time in two weeks so I'm guessing we may end up going out.

DD, 14 year old DGS and DD's BF are in for the weekend. Leaving DGS for a week. We are having grilled burgers, portobello burger for me, mnbn grilled corn on the cob, farm fresh tomatoes, sliced avocados, stuffed and grilled jalapeno poppers, and I just made the grape salad for the, first time. We'll see how that goes. Also making my always requested artichoke dip. Lots of fattening going on around our house this weekend.

For those of you w/little ones enjoy the time, because it truly races by and before you know it you have teenagers and college. People always said that to me when mine were little, and while I didn't think they were lying, I didn't really understand it until now. Boy, that time really zips by, doesn't it? KelleeM, the employees at Lowes and Home Depot will know your dh by name soon. Nothing cooking at my house today. It's the day dh looks forward to all week.....take-out night. If I wasn't so thrilled about not having to plan, cook, and clean up, I might be hurt and offended that he gets so excited to not eat my meals.

Cleaning, shopping, baking....yup, we are almost ready for DH's relatives to come visit tomorrow. Dinner was mashed potatoes and my "throw everything in a pot and hope for the best" stew, everyone (except DH, but his opinion doesn't count today) liked it.

DH has a temporary crown that popped off this morning so something semi-soft? For $1500 you would think the dentist could have placed the temp better.

We are unexpectedly kidless until later tonight so I have no idea. I do need to head to the grocery story & maybe attempt something with that Instant Pot. I did pull it out of the box and run the test-all good! I will likely do some cooking & baking to send down to my brother & nephew.

I think I'm going to wing it and try my crockpot orange chicken recipe in the Instant Pot. It should prove to be interesting. We'll be having fried rice and broccoli to go with, and maybe some fresh peaches for dessert.

It's the weekend, so DH is on cooking duty. He did the grocery shopping this morning, so he's all set. We had Thai beef salad - marinated fillet steak, on the grill then sliced, on a bed of lettuce, herbs and cucumber, with a chilli dressing. Chilli and herbs from our balcony garden! Totally yum.

Honestly, my stomach is knots about the outcome of the job interview and some other financial issues that eating don't seem high up on my list of priorities. I am one of those people that when I get stressed I don't eat and it is now 2 o'clock and I have even had breakfast yet. I only ate popcorn last night, so at some point I *know* I need to eat, but ... eh. As for the kids growing in a blink of eye? Oh yeah. My baby goes off to college in the fall. I know people keep telling me I should embrace the empty nest, I am not adapting easily. At all. (aren't you glad that miss doom and gloom checked in?? )

I'm the same, and once passed out during one of my finals due to low blood sugar. It was more than a little embarassing

After three delightful days on a trip where I didn't have to do any cooking or make any hard decisions, I now have to think about what's for dinner? I did grocery shop this morning, so there are some interesting possibilities, but I think we will call the in-laws and see if we can gloom on to their plans. That means eating out or having dinner at their house. Either option is fine by me!

Our community it just heartbroken over the loss of some our own yesterday. So sad to say that no one survived the Cal/Ore plane crash. 4 people lost their lives in an instant. Praying for comfort and peace for all the family/friends that are grieving. Life is so precious and can truly be over in the blink of an eye.
I've got no idea what's for dinner tonight. I don't need leftovers for Dh so that will come in to play with what I end up making. I'll check back in when I've got a plan.
Scrapmaven- I agree with you! My little ones are growing up way too fast. They want to hit all these milestones and be big kids... I just want them to slow down a bit!

We (the 7yo and I) are headed to a water park for a friend's birthday party tonight. I don't know why it's at night, but he had his birthday at the same water park last year and it was over 100 degrees by early afternoon. So I'm grateful for the evening party this year. Anyway, I guess we'll be eating pizza or hot dogs or whatever they're serving. ETA newlywoods03, so sorry. Hugs to you and your community.

Dd#1 rolled her ankle getting into the boat yesterday so I spent a number of hours at the hospital with her getting x-rays etc. to be sure it wasn't broken ... luckily it's just a sprain but she's on crutches for the last week of our vacation which sucks Tonight we are involved in a group potluck with friends from the lake ... 27 people actually ... I'm making Greek salad which I make every year and folks seem to enjoy

And yes, I truly wish I had appreciated how great it was when they were young. Not only do they grow up & leave, but they were SO much cuter then! It's Saturday. Do I need to say more?I don't even have anything fun to report on the dinner front from the last few days. I've had a niggling little headache since Wednesday, so I've been avoiding anything that requires effort. I've been eating leftovers & cereal. I have no idea what they boys have been eating. Luckily, they get fed at work, lol. ETA: I just realized that the bolded part is a little presumptuous. Why would anyone remember what I eat on Saturdays? Big head, much? It'll be pizza.

We have concert tickets for show on Sept 3rd. It was supposed to start at 6, but they switched it to 2pm since more bands were added. So not looking forward to being out in the heat then. Last year when we went it was 100 at 6pm. Oh well! Thanks for the hugs! They haven't said who was on the plane and I just hope it wasn't anyone we knew or that my Dh knew through work. So so sad. Good people, doing good work. Just gone

The boy and I are having tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner this evening. We'd been managing with what was in the house, as I've been trying to empty the freezer and cabinets. Last night, we picked up some things from the market before coming home. The market has this amazing bread that is good just the bread, nothing else. But, it's also fantastic for toast and divine for grilled cheese. There are usually only a few loaves and they go fast. So, I was surprised to find a loaf that late. Snapped that baby up.

Seriously, I'm sorry that you're anxious and unable to eat. Perhaps some protein and a healthy carb will help balance your blood sugar and enable you to relax a bit. You can't fix anything this weekend, but you can distract yourself. Are you a movie gal? Distraction in the form of a DVD works well. Thinking of you and sending the-job-is-yours vibes.

newlywoods03, my prayers go out to your community. This is so very sad. leannec , I'm so sorry that your dd injured her ankle on vacation. I hope she can make the best of her situation. Can she at least swim? lucyg , A waterpark sounds wonderful right now. Are parents/grandparents going to be playing on the slides, too? Whatever you do, do not go into a wave pool on an innertube if you get motion sickness. TRUST ME!

I tried a new recipe for Meatloaf and we cooked it on the Big Green Egg. We also had tomato pie, butter beans and brussels sprouts. Stacey Little at Southern Bite website. Secret Ingredient Meatloaf.

It was only open for our party (young kids, limited to the young kids area) and there were at least half a dozen life guards on duty. None of the adults got in the water, but the kids had water guns, and the parents and life guards all got in on the water gun fights. This family always puts on the best organized, most fun (and probably most expensive) birthday parties. We had a great time. And ate pizza for dinner, as predicted. Also fruit and cupcakes. And brought home a buttload of candy. Most of which I am going to disappear when he's not looking.
