A Lowcountry Wedding by Mary Alice Monroe. Not her best. I've read many of her books and liked them very much, but this one didn't work for me. Silly, stilted, southern chatter...shallow characters... I must be in the minority with my feelings, as it has many 5 star ratings on Goodreads.
One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This one was ok for me. Again, I didn't like it as much as her previous books. A little sappy and superficial.
Maybe I was just in a mood when I read last week, lol.

Yeah...I'm reading Before the Fall next. I wouldn't be a good Pea if I didn't! I finished Secrets of A Charmed Life by Susan Meissnerlast week and really enjoyed it. Its about 2 sisters separated during the Blitz on England during WW2. Some parts frustrated me but over all a good read. I am now reading When the Moon is Low by Nadia Hashimi and love it. This is about an Afgan widow and her 3 children who escape Kabul and try to get to England. I'm almost done and I'm sad because I have truly come to care about this family. I really liked Secrets of a Charmed Life. I grew to enjoy the author. I preferred her other book, A FALL OF MARIGOLDS but my mom preferred the Charmed Life story because it took place during the war. The Marigolds story takes place during a time when many Europeans were immigrating to the US and it follows the journey of a scarf with marigolds on it. I also really loved When The Moon is Low. That author also wrote The Pearl That Broke The Shell, which is on my to read list. This is a good reminder to me to read it! Although now I have Before The Fall on my list too . Paige.

I read the third book in Robert Galbraith's Cormoran Strike series Career of Evil. I absolutely loved it. I love a series where the books just keep getting better. It makes me admire JK Rowling's talent even more.
Last night I started Louise Penney's The Nature of the Beast, and so far so good. Love her Gamache books.

If you haven't read A Girl Named Zippy by Haven Kimmel, grab it at $1.99 for the kindle version on Amazon. I loved this book. This memoir of her childhoood is funny, quirky, sad, and memorable.

I've been on a reading kick this summer (unusual for me).
Downloaded and read on Monday from Kindle's first look for August The Things We Wish Were True I enjoyed it. Last week I read Journey's End (also Kindle's First look - maybe July) also good. But my favorite was the book before that A Secret Kept . I passed it along to my mom and my daughter wants to read it also.

I don't remember seeing a reading thread last week. In the last couple weeks, I've read The Rose Garden & The Season of Storms by Susanna Kearsley. I'd been working my way through all her books. Then I decided to relive my youth and read The Outsiders. I'm now reading The Beast by J.R. Ward.

Now, I am reading The Girl Who Came Home: A Novel of the Titanic by Hazel Gaynor. It's too soon to tell what I think. I loved this book! I'm a huge fan of this author, but I started with this book. I'm an huge Titanic nut too. I have been since the late 1970's when I read the classic Walter Lord book, "A Night to Remember". I've read lots and lots of Titanic books and just a few Titanic novels (less than 5) most published since the 100 year anniversary recently. This book was one of the best. I won't give too much away except to say that the writing was wonderful and the author got her facts correct which I really appreciated. Another Titanic novel I read "The Dressmaker" by Kate Alcott was pretty good, but some of the Titanic facts were wrong. This frustrated me to no end. I'm sure the average reader would have no problem with it. Back to the point-Hazel Gaynor-I love her writing! I hope you do too. Her other novels include "A Memory of Violets" which I thought was incredible, and she has a short story included in "A Fall of Poppies" which I haven't read yet. Her newest novel is "A Girl from the Savoy". I just started reading that last night. So far it's wonderful. I love her descriptive writing.

I really like this author and I also preferred her other book "A Fall of Marigolds". In fact I read "A Fall of Marigolds" cover to cover in one night. I could not put that book down. I also read from this author "The Shape of Mercy" which I loved, and "The Girl in the Glass" which was pretty good.
