Late to this thread.... I will eat Vines or Twizzlers, black licorice in any form (esp. Nibs) but my favorite is the chocolate Twizzlers!

Red vines= Ok, that may be a little dramatic, but I do prefer Twizzlers by far! I feel like eating the vines is like eating string. It's just WEIRD!

Red Vines. Twizzlers are like chewy flavorless wax which is amazing considering they have such a strong smell. At least the pull and peel ones do.

Twizzlers all the way!!!!!
I always thought Red Vines were the not-so-yummy wannabe knockoff.
ETA: But if we can have black licorice, than real black licorice all the way. Love everything about it.

I'm originally from Bruxelles, Belgium. I admit I'd never had either until I came to the states. I'll eat Twizzlers but I prefer them on the stale side (weird I know). My preference though is Red Vines.
A friend recently introduced me to the Hershey's chocolate Twizzlers. The thought of chocolate licorice was revolting but OMG they are amazing. So now I'm developing a Hershey's Twizzlers hoarding problem...Well ok the hoarding isn't the problem, the eating of the hoard is the problem..sigh :-)

Twizzlers!!!!! and only the regular red kind, not the other flavors, not the pull-apart kind, not the nibs. These are a family staple on every road trip. Sometimes the word "road trip" is used liberally and we aren't really going very far. . . I'm sitting next to you! Twizzlers are required for road trips.

I had a Red Vines habit for a year or so. I was eating two bags a week. Kept them in my desk at work. I'd open them in the car on my way home from the store. I finally had to go cold turkey. I want some.

I've never had Red Vines! But now I must purchase some so I can make my decision.
I do like Twizzlers---especially with popcorn. The combo tastes like Crunch Berries cereal!

The best chocolate covered licorice is from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory. So good.
I also prefer twizzlers. I had red vines in the states once and they tasted like stale twizzlers to me.
Black licorice is awesome, I too love the Dutch salty ones.

Okay people. First let me say that I will eat pretty much ANY red licorice. If I have all the varieties laid out in front of me to readily choose from (which, I will admit, NEVER happens), I would probably choose Super Long Cherry Nibs but they tend to be really hard to find. A close second would be Red Vines, which used to be a road trip standard before all my friends quit eating sugar and carbs. A distant third would be strawberry Twizzlers which are not my favorite by any stretch but I will eat them and will even buy them in a giant family sized pack if that's all there is. (And proceed to eat 3/4 of the bag by myself.) The chocolate Twizzlers are pretty good but they aren't red licorice so they don't really count, plus they are hard to find and come in a smaller size bag for the same price.
I'm not a fan of the Australian red licorice at all, it has a weird aftertaste that I can't get used to. Pull & Peel is nothing short of disgusting and shouldn't even be called licorice. It's too squishy, too sticky, and comes in weird chemical flavors. Just say NO. I only eat black licorice (in the form of the little allsorts sandwiches, preferably the ones with the brown layer) when I really need a laxative!
Now having said all that, the absolute FINAL word on red licorice used to be Danish Ribbons a/k/a Delfa Rolls. OMG, those were little ribbons of heaven! They would come (almost) five rolls to a pack and were thin red licorice ribbons that could be unrolled kind of like a fruit roll up minus the parchment. Heaven, I say! We used to get them at the store that sold imported and penny candy when I was a kid, and later at a couple stores that sold old timey candy. I haven't had one in eons because they stopped making them years ago. My sister and I found them online once and we bought a whole case of them to split, but now the real ones are officially discontinued and not available anywhere anymore. A new company started making them again, but the reports I've read said they aren't the same and aren't nearly as good.

I've never met a red licorice I didn't like. :-p But they have to be fresh. Life's too short for hard licorice.

Red Vines - grew up in California And one of the best things to do with Red Vines is to bite the ends off and use one as a straw for drinking your Diet Coke (used to be TAB). It gets all cold and hard. YUM! I grew up in SoCal. We used to bite the ends off Red Vines and drink 7-Up through them. You've missed a step, though, elaine, and that's to dump a pack of SweetTarts into the cup of 7-Up before drinking the concoction through the Red Vine straw. This was done while watching a 25¢ show at the local theater. Way before diet drinks!
