Stations are running out of gas here. Only premium left at one station we go to. The attendant at another station told me they will be out soon. She also has had several people steal gas this morning. Our govenor has issued a state of emergency. All of our cars are filled up but we certainly aren't going to drive anywhere. My girls said several stations are also out where they too (away at school). Oh my! How are you in GA, SC, NC, TN, etc.?

This is because of an under reported break in a gas pipeline near those areas. I read about it in a news report this morning.

I noticed the price of gasoline has gone up .10 cents since yesterday in Northern Alabama. Haven't heard of any shortages.

I'm in Arkansas and one station on my way into work jumped from $1.95 to $2.19 overnight. Another station across the street was at $1.91. Guess which one I went to to fill up today!

Our governor declared a state of emergency here in Alabama. I believe Georgia's governor has also. They're trying to head off price gouging before it can start. Gas prices here have gone up about twenty cents since yesterday and I've heard of some gas stations running out on FB. It's not widespread yet, though.

I'm surprised the story hasn't had more attention, but a section of the Colonial Pipeline that feeds gas from Houston to New York has been closed since Sept 9 after a spill was detected in rural Alabama. Repairs aren't expected to be completed until the end of next week. I've seen no discussion on the environmental impact of the spill. CNN East Coast Gas Shortage

In SC, Gov. Nikki Haley declared an emergency on Friday to allow the Department of Transportation, Department of Public Safety and State Transport Police to suspend federal regulations that limit hours of during which commercial vehicles may drive.
It worries me a bit that we are foregoing safety rules on the highway. I honestly believe that much of the "shortage" we are seeing at present is the result of everyone panicking and rushing to fill or top off their tanks.
Gas was $1.99 this afternoon at the station I normally use. My husband got gas there last night for $1.81.

Ahh. Although I'm in Indiana, that may explain why gas was $1.82 Thursday and $2.25 Friday. Always amazes me how it creeps down by pennies slowly over a period of time, but jumps up by quarters in the period of minutes.

I guess everyone in my town knew but me because it was crazy when I finally went out to fill up cars.

We have not felt like we need to rush out and get gas, and I think all the state of emergency drama is completely OTT and unnecessary. This is not a massive spill or crisis that looks like it will be long and ongoing. (unless the pipeline people are lying or not being forthcoming about the extent of the problem and how long restoring service will take) And I agree with Spongemom on the trucking safety rules. I just don't see a need to toss those aside during this situation.

I am in SC and read about the shortages this morning. I filled up when I was running errands this morning and told my husband to do the same. The gas station wasn't any busier than normal that I could tell. DH decided to wait until this afternoon, went to the the same gas station I did and it was already out of gas.

Stations around here (in Georgia) are running out too. DH filled mine up last night and went out early this morning to fill his up. There were already lines forming so I suspect that the Kroger next to us will soon be out. Family in TN are reporting stations running out also. A tank last me about a month unless we travel, so I am okay for awhile. My CRV averages 30 mpg. DH has a Fit so gets good gas mileage too. A tank usually last him two weeks unless he has to make a business trip, which he may need to do next week. I am worried about that.

There is so much traffic you are either not moving or having to go 100 mph to keep from getting run over. I hope that he stays close to where he works so he won't have to worry so much about gas. Many stations in Metro Atlanta are running out.

Super awful timing. We are living with a friend 40 miles away from the kids school while our house is finished being built.
No gas could get ugly for us.

We are in NC. All the stations near us have run out. We travel to Virginia and stay 2 days each week to help take care of my parents. My car has gas, but I don't know if we should go this week or not. I haven't heard of any problems there, but we hadn't had any problems here until last night. I like being there, but don't want to be stuck away from home.

He's not big on going out once he gets there so not worried about him while he is there, just that he can get there and then get back to me!

And they wonder why the Native Americans don't want a pipeline going through their land?

We're a little north of Atlanta, and many gas stations here are out of gas. We filled up tonight at a nearby store, they had no premium, and just a little regular left. Both our cars are full and hopefully will tide us over.
I am surprised at the lack of media coverage, though I think that has helped people not panic too much....yet.

First thing I thought of. And you wonder why this spill has been under reported? Yes, I have wondered why it is under reported also. Driving to church this morning, one station had some gas left but one was all out. Those are just the two stations we pass Sunday morning. My girls are headed back to school now so hoping they can get gas once they get off the freeway. Their friends have texted them and said every station near campus is out.

Being a neighbor to TN, I wondered if this might affect us. I had to pass Walmart and an Exxon across the street. They were still at $1.97 and $1.99. I guess at this point we are good.
