Also my story and it keeps getting worse as I get older. I used to worry a lot; that kept me up. My husband worked shifts; I woke up when he came to bed (quietly) and never went back to deep sleep. Currently, I can usually fall asleep pretty well, sleep 3-4 hours and then wake up and never sleep deeply the rest of the morning. I guess I should be happy with the 3-4 hours. Anything with an antihistamine in gives me a very bad headache for the next day or two. I don't take that unless I'm extremely miserable from congestion, so I'm not taking for just sleep. I currently take a sleeping pill occasionally. I don't like to every day because I feel more tired the next day, but boy I'm knocked out while on it. I may have to try this weed thing... LOL!

I don't have any advice because I'm right there with you, but reading this thread with interest.
When I was younger I just could not fathom how someone "couldn't sleep." I miss that.

I have a kindle with a TV show I like (the west wing) downloaded on it. To fall asleep, I start an eisode.the dialogue keeps my mind from running and I fall back asleep quickly

A colleague of mine has started CBT-I, and he's noticed a significant improvement. I'm watching and waiting - my sleep quality is deteriorating every year.

I've had long running sleep problems. I can fall asleep fine but it seems like everything and anything will wake me up and then I can't fall back asleep for hours. I tried melatonin but it gave me weird dreams so that was out. Two Benadryl will leave me too groggy and sluggish in the morning but taking just one takes enough of the edge off so that I'll go to sleep and not fully wake back up again before morning. I only do that if I'm really desperate for sleep though.

Glenn Harold's Ultimate Guide to Relaxing Sleep Every Night. FREAKING FREAKY! I found a 10 minute sample of this on youtube. Within 27 seconds I was feeling weird like on the verge of unconscious/sleep/I don't even know what the feeling was. Is it hypnosis or just meditation? Dang, that's weird. I immediately turned it off because I need to clean my kitchen before I fall asleep tonight, lol.

I used to sleep 10-12 hours, easily. I sure took that for granted. I have had insomnia for years now, and problems sleeping b/c of back problems. Even if I can fall asleep, I can't stay asleep. Unfortunately I have to take something to sleep, or I don't, at all. I hope you find something that works for you, trouble sleeping is miserable.

Well, seeing I am wide awake still at 4am, I am obviously not the person to give you tips.

There is very pointed wording at the beginning to NOT listen to the recording if you can't commit to 8 hours of sleep. 😜 I think it's both hypnosis and meditation. I'd say it works about 90% of the time for me.

Keep a notepad by jbed. When you wake up and begin to worry. About things, write them down. This may let your mind relax then

Like you I have no problems falling asleep, just wake up every 2 hrs which is right when REM cycle should be occurring. I spoke with my dr and he said if I can go back asleep no issues, its when you can't go back that is a problem. I do find that two Advil does help me stay asleep so when I get to the point I need sleep I will take these. I have taken PM meds but honestly they wont keep me asleep at times. I find these more to work when your body is ready to sleep if your mind is active you tend to still wake up.
If you are a worrier the best thing you can do is before you fall asleep write down your thoughts and concerns, keep that pad and pen by your bedside if you do wake up. That's usually the best thing to help with worries. Meditation may also help.

Cut added sugar from your diet. It really helps!

The first thing is to evaluate some things: how much screen time are getting a day? how much caffeine? how close to bed time are you eating? are you giving your body/mind any sort of time to wind down before bed? I used to pooh-pooh such things, but I finally gave some things a try: no screen time for at least an hour before bed; I make sure I've had no caffeine after about 1pm; I read for at least 30 minutes something that's not going to stir my mind up; a cup of non-caffeine tea, especially Sleepytime Tea from Celestial Seasonings, does wonders for me. Another thing that I scoffed at but was shocked at how well it work: sleep meditation. I use something I found on Audible of places: Glenn Harold's Ultimate Guide to Relaxing Sleep Every Night. Again, I really thought this was too cheesy to help but I was more than pleasantly surprised. The key is that your brain gets "turned off" as you go through his relaxation steps. Finally, one thing my husband is convinced of is that I dream that I'm awake. There have been nights where I swear I've tossed and turned and been awake more than asleep and he *swears* that is not the case. Getting a sleep study wouldn't hurt either A million times this. Glenn changed my life. Dh calls him my boyfriend because he whispers sweet nothings in my ear every night.

My problem is I have to get up to go to the bathroom 1-2 times a night, and can't get back to sleep! I really need to stop drinking after 7:00pm, but then I eat! I drink flavored water, diet iced tea. I drink some diet coke during the day, but not after 4:00. I know my problem is if I don't have my iced tea or flavored water, I tend to eat more.

Best sleep aid ever. Sleep like a rock, no hangover feeling the next day. I wonder how it would affect me. Non-sedating antihistamines make me a zombie, Benadryl makes me hyper.

My husband woke me up a lot just getting in and out of bed. We bought a new bed, 2 twin XL = 1 king. The beds are next to each other but completely independent. I sleep so much better now, I can't feel the movement anymore. Also, I sleep on a contoured pillow and make sure that my head is tilted back. I can breathe so much better and feel like I can think straighter all day.

I didn't think I had a sleep problem until I started taking magnesium (I use Natural Calm). I was waking to go to the bathroom several times a night but now realize that I was waking first, then had to go to the bathroom. Now I typically wake up once at about 5:00 unless something else is waking me up. Falling asleep can still be a problem for me due to RLS, heart palpitations and an all over feeling of tingling or itching (all of which I hoped would improve with the magnesium--it may help but hasn't made it go away). Are you taking the magnesium in the morning or at night? The container we have does not say either way.
