My mom goes in the morning for knee surgery. I hate that I'm so far away and I'm worried sick. I would really appreciate some positive thoughts and prayers for her.

Awww.....are you worried sick because she has other health issues? Sorry you're so far away; I would
feel the same way if someone in my family were having surgery. Does she have other family/
friends to help her / keep her company while she recovers?
What about being able to walk/ drive/ etc? Is she going to be admitted to a rehab facility, or will she go
straigh home soon after and have Physical Therapists come to her house?

Best wishes for your mom. Al Roker had a knee replacement last week and the Today show checked in with him everyday at the hospital, you should look up those posts on their website. He said it was much easier than his last one 10 years ago.

((( hugs ))) and prayers! I think losing my dad this year makes me worry more for my mom. She doesn't really have any health issues, thank goodness. High blood pressure but that's probably not unusual at her age (she is 83). My sister from Vegas is there now with her and will stay for a few weeks, and then take her to Vegas, where my other two sisters also live. So between the 3 of them she'll have plenty of help. She's in California (which is where she lives) now and has to stay there for a few weeks after the surgery for follow up checks and such, and then they'll set up physical therapy in Vegas. |

I hope it all goes really well for her. I know it's hard being far away. My mom had knee replacement several years ago and it went just fine, although the recovery took a little longer than usual. (Basically, she had put off the surgery for so long that her muscles had been overcompensating, and they had to "re-learn" how to move correctly!) I hope you can have calm and peace as you wait for news, too.

Just an update. My mom has been doing really well-the physical therapist said she is seeing healing and abilities in her that she normally doesn't see until later. Yesterday my mom and sister drove to Vegas so she could stay with my other sister and they had doctors and PT all set up. Well overnight my mom got up to use the bathroom by herself and fell. She hit her head, has a black eye, but is otherwise fine. They are keeping her in the hospital overnight. Just to recap, my dad passed away shortly after he fell and hit his head and he didn't fully recover. It's hard not being there.  |

Just got an update. Lot of blood in her stool so they're going check her stomach and possibly a colonoscopy. I hope she's in good hands. *crying*
