Mostly literary fiction, biographies & memoirs, some chick lit, occassional suspense or mystery.
I'm not sure how people are separating historical fiction and literary fiction because I think there is a lot of overlap in that category. I just finished 22 Britannia Road, which I think of as literary fiction, but it is set in England after WW II so does that make it historical fiction? I'd also consider anything by Jane Austen to be literary fiction not historical fiction.
I've bever been into scifi, vampires, fantasy or horror.

I like a good murder mystery, some Black Dagger Brotherhood vampire books, most dystopian novels, a lot of Stephen King, James Patterson, Janet Evanovich, and Harlan Coben and every once in a while a good romance thrown in for good measure.

Murder mysteries with complex characters, fantasy and dystopian, some sci fi, some literary fiction. I love nonfiction that tells a story. My dislikes are chick lit and romances and biographies of celebrities.

I guess I'm in the minority because I love sci-fi, fantasy, post apocalyptic, speculative fiction. I love imagining places totally different to the here and now. It's mainly all I read, although I do like some regular fiction, quirky memoirs, etc.
Zero interest in romance, mysteries or religious fiction.

I like thrillers, detectives and mysteries. The few historical fiction that I have read I have enjoyed but for some reason don't read many. I like any book that teaches me something while entertaining me. I'm easily hooked on any book where the author has done a lot of research on a subject for the story.
Before the Internet I used to get a lot of "how to" books at the library. I like cars and learned a lot about auto engine and body work. When I started gardening I got a lot of books on gardens. Now days, with the Internet, I can get all of that how to info online so don't need those books any more
I don't read a whole lot of non-fiction. I read a few romance novels years ago but they just seemed silly to me. I don't care for science fiction either. But if a book is well written I can like any genre.

The bulk of what I read is literary fiction That sounds so pretentious though don't you think? Someone in a Goodreads groups said I read a lot of literary fiction and I was like "no I don't, I just read 'normal' books"...lol. However technically it's true, but I wish it had a different name, so that I don't sound like a such book snob when I say it. I've been actively trying to broaden my reading over the last two years and trying out all different genres. I'm surprised at some of what I have enjoyed so it's easier to list what is definitely out: I really can't get on with proper science fiction, if there are any sort of monsters or made up creatures or different planets or new languages etc...I'm definitely out. I also don't like fantasy in general...no non humans, no fairies (especially if they are spelled "fae" on the cover!)no shifters, no vampires etc. No erotica, I don't mind the occasional normal/short sex scene in books but no long descriptions of moaning and gasping and who put what where. No romance only books and no Christian fiction. No Stephen King. No books where spy/espionage/politics etc are the main themes. I'll also avoid most books that have "Book xx" on the cover, as I don't like reading series. Anything else I'm pretty much open to.

The vast majority of books I read are crime fiction eg. Michael Connelly, David Baldacci, Jeffery Deaver, Ian Rankin, Angela Marsons etc.
The older I get the less likely I am to read much else. In the last month or so I have started to read 2 books that would be considered chick lit, and I gave up on both of them after the first chapter. Marian Keyes in an exception to that - I will read anything she writes.
I am not interested at all in fantasy, sci fi or romance.

True Crime is my favorite.
I'll read mysteries and thrillers too but I prefer a few authors. Sometimes I get in a historical non-fiction mood and read about stuff like the Great Okeechobee Hurricane of 1928, or the Galveston Hurricane of 1900 or the Donner party..stuff that is almost like True Crime.

My two go-to genres are Historical Fiction and Literary Fiction with a good dose of non-fiction. I am not a big sci-Fi fan and don't like True Crime, althoughI do read cozy mysteries and thrillers now and then.

I only read romance and erotica.
I don't like historical romance.
I read of ton of books on my Kindle app. At least 2 or more books a week.
If anyone wants some recommendations let me know.
I don't post on the weekly what I read thread because I think most ppl don't like those genres of literature.
I love all kinds of movies and ones with deep plots but for literature I just want an escape and fluff!

I've heard the exact same thing from another pea about romance and erotica, so I know there are other people on the board with the same interest. Unfortunately, not my interest, but if you hear about a great new mystery, send it along!

Other media has taken over my reading. Up through my mid-30s i was a voracious reader. No genre or subject was off limits. As i've gotten older my scope has narrowed to mostly apocalyptic, paranormal, sci-fi/fantasy all with a romantic element. To try and turn this around i joined a book club last month. I knew going in that most book clubs are going to be picking what they think are acceptable literary fiction (not my preferred genre). Most say that's not how it is, but the first book was right up that alley. I hated that damn book and all it's cynical depression masquerading as "literary". Book 2 looks fun, so i think i'll continue. Book 1: Goodnight, Nebraska Book 2: The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency

I guess I'm the oddball, but I enjoy YA books, especially dystopian type ones.
By far my favorites are Scifi and Fantasy. I occasionally will read a chick lit humor or a mystery for something different.
I don't enjoy crime dramas, horror, religious, non fiction.
I'm all about escapism.

For me, no horror, vampires, supernatural or erotica. I rarely go for chick lit, either, unless you consider Liane Moriarty chick lit.
My fave is crime, thriller and mysteries. I love RJ Ellory, David Baldacci, John Katzenbach, Dennis Lehane, Harlan Coben and yes, even John Grisham. And now, thanks to the weekly reading thread, John Hart!
I also love historical fiction and literary fiction. I know there's some overlap, but I still see them as separate.
I read a little romance but only if it is secondary to the main story. Sci fi is okay. I like some YA and dystopian as well.

Right now I'm working my way back through the outlander series. It's surprising me how into it I am as I don't typically like history or romance anything.

I'm not trying to be pretentious, but that is a term that is generally used to describe the books I read. Really? Did you not read the next two sentences before replying? Obviously I know what the term means and even if you choose to take the first sentence out of context, reading the next two makes it pretty clear that I think the term sounds pretentious and I am not saying you personally are. I was asking if you felt it was as pretentious as I do when I say it. I think it sounds like a pretentious term and I said *I* felt like a book snob when I said it...I was simply wondering if you felt the same way. If you wanted to reply it's a yes or no - there was no need to get defensive.

I love historical fiction, historical non-fiction, fantasy, romance, general fiction, biographies, craft books, art history, garden, interior design, young adult and some mysteries. I also love classic novels, dystopian and literary fiction. Actually, I just love to read, lol. I just should have listed all the genres. I understood what you were trying to convey. Yes, I have got the side eye when I say I read literary fiction. I understand that it sounds snobbish to a lot of people. Truly, it is not. It is a genre. Most award books fall under literary fiction. I love my Harlequin novels and enjoy finding new treasures every week. Last week I finally got The Miniaturist to put in my TBR pile. There it is on the pile with my Harlequin novels. Don't worry about being a book snob when you say literary fiction. Book snob is pretty cool thing to be. Seriously, if you feel a bit snobbish saying it I have also said New York Times Best Seller List or Award winning novels. The New York Times Best Seller List can blow up on you too. I said that recently and somebody asked me if I read Nora Robert's new one. No, I haven't. I got the side eye for that. I have read hundreds of Nora Robert's novels. I was reading her Harlequin/Silhouette novel lines when she first got her start. I went up all the way to the mid-2000's with her work. I am a bit burned out on Nora. I am sure Nora would understand. She is sweet like that.

I mainly read Crime/Mystery. Any type of crime is fine - True Crime, Cozy Mysteries, Police Procedurals. My current favourite sub-genre is Scandinavian Crime, after finding a display of English translations in a Stockholm bookstore a couple of years back. I bought a couple for the trip home, and was hooked. I also like Historical Fiction, and love reading books set in cities that we visit.

People who know me in real life are always surprised when they hear my preferred genres generally involve shoot 'em up spy thrillers, zombies, post apocalyptic (of all sorts) and the like. lol
I do read other genres-and am a long time member of a book club that forces me to read way outside my normal reading choices (I think it would fall into the literary fiction category. ) I do randomly enjoy some historical fiction, but don't particularly enjoy romance novels, and I almost uniformly dislike what generally falls in the chic lot category.
But give me a good spy guy out to save the world from the bad guy terrorists and I'm a happy girl. Or zombies. Or a false flag EMP. Or...
