I'll be the voice of dissent--I'm not loving this season. I get that as time goes on, it's less about surviving the ZA and more about recreating the human race and cultural norms. That's what this season is doing, shifting towards the human predators--negan. And I will agreee that if this were real, this situation would be highly likely.
But I still hate the show now. They jumped the shark last season. They've circled our heroes into a nonescapable situation. Negan is stronger, meaner, and out numbers them.
I might would cheer for the heroes and hope for the upset of the century...if they would show them...thus has turned into the SLOWEST story ever told. If they want me to hang in there and root for Rick and company, they I need to actually see them. The writers want to compartmentalize each characters journey and it's losing me. Interweave the stories in each episode.
Last season we had to wait 8 episodes to see what happened to Glenn. I can't do that anymore.
I don't disagree with the story line this season, I disagree with how it's being told and my husband and I officially quit the show last night.

I think the letters on the shirt have to do with how far down Neegan breaks you. Daryl is starting as a "A" (sort of alpha) and I think as they can see you break down you go lower in the alphabet. They also talked about a "point system' so as you earn points and prove yourself loyal your letter goes farther down the alphabet. Probably lets them know how closely you need to be watched too. Seems like a pretty psychotically sophisticated operation in Neegan's camp!! This is a really interesting theory!

I am not sure about this season either, not ready to quit watching yet. While the whole Neegan thing is supposed to last awhile torture is not my thing to watch. I really really hate they killed Glen, wish they would have gone against the comics on that one.

It's supposed to make us see how truly evil negan is and thus cheer when our heroes overcome him, but they are really pushing the drawn out torture and I don't enjoy it.

I have put too much time into this show and characters to jump ship yet.
This season I think will be a bit like the season where they were all scattered after leaving the farm. What I loved about that season was the focusing on the individual characters but how they kind of were interwoven. Also what I loved was that you knew eventually they would get back together.
I hate Negan but I'm fascinated by how he is able to get his followers to stay with him. JDM is so good as him!
I felt like last year Darryl's character was pushed to the side so seeing more of him is great.

I'm also struggling 3 episodes into this season. I watch this show to see how our gang survives. The season they all split and made their way to terminus was not my favorite but better than these three so far. I agree the torture porn is not for me and makes me less interested. I found myself on my phone during the show last night because it was so slow and boring. This was my biggest fear going into this season and Negan. I don't watch this show to see our group subjugated and dominated. I watch because i root for them to win. I can only go so far with this story before i'm no longer cheering them on. Carol is a prime example. i'm over her whiny angst.

Wow, I really am the outlier in how much I love this season!
I think it's so well-constructed, and last night wasn't boring in the least. I actually hate torture stuff (stopped watching GOT because I couldn't watch Theon get tortured for one more second). I also hated the Terminus half season, and think this is a million times better, smarter.
We watched the Kingdom operate last week on HOPE,even if delivered by a false prophet. We've now watched the Saviors operate on FEAR. And then there's our group that tries the most to operate as a bit of a democracy, slipping at times of course, because it's a horrible world they live in.
I loved the humanization of the Dwight in this episode - I think he's going to be very important to the future of this show and our group.
And I kept telling my husband - Neegan's world is just like "A Bug's Life" - the ants have to realize they have the power if they band together against Hopper, the evil food-stealing grasshopper. Take'em down, gang!! It will be a glorious day! :-)

Im not big on this season so far either but I know it will turn around for me. I get that they have to show us who Negan is to build up the season but I'm ready to see my favorite characters. I was bored last night, bring on Michonne!

I am hung up on the pregnancy test and Neegan offering Dwight a night of pleasure. Just made me wonder if Neegan is shooting blanks.

I liked the episode all except for that damned song. Drove me nuts ( like it obviously was supposed to do to Darryl). I was surprised to find myself interested in Dwight. I still miss Fear the Walking Dead though.

So I was a huge Lost fan at the beginning. I loved the setup, the human relationships, the unexplained creepiness of the island, etc. As the series went on and it became more about supernatural weirdness, and as you saw less of the cast in each episode, I lost interest.
I kind of feel the same way here. As more of the show focuses on human violence and torture, and as the episodes feature only one or two of the old cast members, I am losing interest (I started losing interest maybe a season ago). I am still watching out of habit and a lack of other options, but after the first episode and the orgy of violence, I was considering jumping ship even so; I have watched the last two episodes and haven't quit yet, but am running out of steam.
I get that the developments on this show are appealing to a lot of people, and many people are enjoying the direction the show has taken. It just may not be for me.

Last nights show did not keep my full attention either. I liked seeing who and what Dwight is about, but I didn't learn anything new about the big bad Neegan that I didn't already know. We've already seen this side of Darryl and it was no surprise how he handled it. I don't like the full on break out episodes and would rather them show bits and pieces of the other cast members.
I'm looking forward to seeing my favorites next week.

I'm the same way. We don't look forward to it each week like we have in the past seasons. I loved watching our group make it against impossible odds. Yes there were setbacks and loss of life, but I LIVED for that moment of redemption. I just don't see it coming this season.
As far as this episode goes, there were definitely some interesting things. It was heartbreaking and horrifying watching Daryl be broken down. It's about killing me. I had no idea what he would say to Negan there in the end but I'm glad he said what he did. I also loved what he said to Dwight. It made perfect sense (although Dwight did not deserve his understanding). It is interesting to see the dynamic of how life is in Negan's camp. Do you think they are setting anything up for a revolt. There a lot of unhappy and mistreated people there. If they can be organized somehow...I don't know wishful thinking I guess. The whole knealing thing and controlling people with violence and fear, creating such a horrible hierarchy. Oh, and does anyone get the impression that there is some serious sexism and racism going on? We see the black men being subservient janitors, women being subservient sex machines and baby makes This is what kills me when people even begin to compare Rick's behavior with Negan's.
I will try to stick this show out. I can't see how I can stop watching without wondering how the group is doing that I've come to care about so much. I just don't know if I'll enjoy it as much.

Still haven't watched.
I will sooner or later, but I just don't care (and I predicted who would die and I knew how, so it isn't shock)

When they do these capsulated episodes, I always wonder if it is economics. After all, a lot of actors get paid per episode.

I am hung up on the pregnancy test and Neegan offering Dwight a night of pleasure. Just made me wonder if Neegan is shooting blanks. I think it was more of a test.. like "how loyal are you to me"? I actually felt sorry for Dwight last night.. he's a bad guy but for a reason, y'know? Survival, just like everyone else. Our favorites have killed and done bad things in the name of survival, but we know them and love them, so it's okay. Making Dwight more human and showing what Negan has done to him too, I think he's going to unite with Daryl somehow and bring Negan down. Playing "Crying" and showing Daryl the picture of Glenn.. This is a dark, dark show for sure.. but they live in a dark, dark world, and I'll keep watching.
