I finally finished The Starter Wife- and I was disappointed. I didn't like it in the beginning, got to enjoy it in the middle, and then hated the ending. Just hated it. Another ending that made me sorry I read the book.
I read Hyperbole and a Half and I enjoyed it. It made me laugh, it was insightful, at times it was a little heartbreaking. The drawings cracked me up. Glad I read it.
I read The Princesses of Iowa. It was not what I thought it would be. Sort of a 'mean girls get their comeuppance' type story. It was OK, but lacked the depth of some of the more well written YA fiction I've read lately.
I started (I'm not sure if I'm getting the title right) Everything is Perfect When You're a Liar -by a Canadian blogger, whose name escapes me at the moment. The reviews on Goodreads were mostly scathing, but I gave it a try anyway. I was sorry I did. Maybe eventually her stories and dialogue tie back into the 'liar' part of her title- but I wasn't sticking around to find out. The dialogue she attributes to herself and her sister at 4 and 6 years old irritated the heck out of me. According to the reviews, she only gets more and more self-congratulatory as the book goes on. Not interested. She seems like a talented writer- but she's annoying.
I returned that one unfinished and grabbed The Rules of Civility, which I'm enjoying so far.
My new purse book is Dear Neighbor, Drop Dead. Not very far in, but it seems light and mildly entertaining so far.

I finally finished The Romanov Sisters. I rate it 2.5/5. I thought the author spent so much time going over minutiae in the early years, before the revolution. Then, she just ended the book abruptly. I understand she also wrote another book about the murders, but I wish she hadn't skimmed over that part of history in this book. I feel like I should have read both books to get the full story, but I'm reluctant to because she annoyed me so much.
Now I'm reading The Distant Hours by Kate Morton. I'm really loving it so far.

Tried "The Light Between the Ocean" for the second time and just can't get into it. I read about 50 pages last year, then 40 this year and just don't like it. Does it get better? I know most love this book! I wish I did, it would make great beach reading!
Re-read "On the Island" love that book! Recommended on 2peas a couple years ago. Also read "Beautiful Day" by Elin Hildebrand. Love her books, but this wasn't one of my favorites. I didn't like any of the main characters! At all!
Reading "I'd Know You Anywhere" from a recommendation here. So far I really like it!

Only one for me this week. Another Elin Hilderbrand. This one The Love Season. What to say…. it wasn't my favorite. It struck me as significantly different (not a bad thing) from her other books, but I'm not sure why exactly. Has anyone else read this one? I've got a question for you if you have. I read this book. But it was a couple years ago, so may not be able to answer your question. I liked it, but it wasn't my favorite either. I went to a book signing with Elin Hildebrand at Rehoboth Beach (Delaware) a couple weeks ago! So much fun!

I finished up That Part was True by Deborah McKinlay. It was about a budding romance/friendship between an American man and English woman, both passionate foodies. It was told mostly through their letters. One of the characters grated on my nerves occasionally, but overall I would say it was a sweet story.
I'm now reading Kate Morton's The Secret Keeper.

I read If I Stay and Where She Went both by Gayle Forman. I thought the series was okay. I guess for the YA audience it was pretty good. Now, I'm reading Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. I think it'll be a quick read. Next, I think I'll read JoJo Moyes' One Plus One. Then on to Mrs. Poe for book club.

Just one for me this week. I read The Vacationers. It was one of the titles under consideration for book club.
The plot is compelling: Family and friends travel to Mallorca for a two week vacation. During their stay, old hurts and family secrets begin to bubble up. The author writes well and I really enjoyed the descriptions of the island. My main issue with the book was about the characters. I don't have to like characters in a book and can even appreciate some snarky characters, but everyone in the book is so negative and awful that I didn't really want to pull for any of them.
The ending wraps up very quickly and isn't consistant with the overall plot. That's one of my great pet peeves! A decent little book was spoiled by a rushed and unbelievable ending.

How do you bold the book title? I tried to highlight the title, then push the bold "B" above. But it didn't work. I would love to be able to bold the text to post on this thread.

I read Everything I Never Told You - so melancholy, but very good. Each family member in this story is wound so tightly by their history or thwarted plans. So much unhappiness, but I really liked this story.
Now I'm reading Thunderstruck - a short story Elizabeth McCracken. I've only read the first story so far, but it was a doozy - so good!

I just started reading Two Serpents Rise by Max Gladstone. It's a slow read compared to the last 3 books I read.

I have it on my Wish List, as it is a topic that piques my interest. I read a Children's Classic by Elizabeth Goudge, The Little White Horse. It's interesting as JK Rowling has said it was a childhood favorite, and you can definitely see the influence of the story and style on the Harry Potter novels. To the Peafugee who asked about bolding, just hit the "B" before typing what you want to be bold, and then hit it again when you are done with the title

Loved the Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. One of my favorite books ever!
Currently still reading House in the Sky. Good so far but I'm nervous reading it because I know I'm getting to the part where she gets captured and it only gets worse:(

Another great threat to feed my nerd side! I just go through and cut and paste the title into my Goodreads "Want To Read" list! Awesome.
I am currently reading An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. I am a big John Green fan because of his Crash Course videos on Youtube that I've used in my teaching. He has a great imagination. You have to go into his books knowing they are YA but they seem to take me back to my YA years in a light hearted, nostalgic way. (Except for Fault in Our Stars, of course.)
Next up, Mrs. Poe for book club.

I've added a bunch to my reading list. I love Laine Moriarty!
I've not been in a reading mood lately. I may be the only teacher to read less in the summer than during the school year. Well, this school year because we are having our deck redone and if I'm sitting inside it's easier to watch tv or surf the internet.

I just finished The Goldfinch for my book club and ended up liking it more than I thought it would. It's dark but the characters are interesting. Worth a read.
I'm about 25% into Big Little Lies and with all of her books, it's a page turner. Glad we're discussing it as our October book for the Two Peas club. Hope I remember it by then!

I read Swamplandia!. It was pretty bad. It felt like a 200 page story (or 2 100 page stories) dragged painfully out into 400 pages. The reviews on the back of the book were so glowing that by the end I was wondering if I had somehow missed the point. But after perusing the reviews on Goodreads I feel I'm in the majority.
Now I'm reading The Children of God go Bowling and Not Tonight Honey, Wait 'till I'm a Size Six but I'm only reading snippets of that at a time. I kind of like it and I kind of don't.
I read that a few years ago, it was a fun read. I enjoyed it .

Hi all! I finished 2 books by 2 of my favourite authors this week, One plus One by Jojo Moyes, which was really good, and the Target by David Baldacci, which was also good.
Next up, it think I will read Mrs. Poe for book club and The Sandcastle Girls an older one I have not yet read by Chris Bohjalian.

I just caught up with Sue Grafton's W is for Wasted and loved it. I can't believe the series only has x, y, and z left. I started the series more than 20 years ago when she wrote A is for Alibi. I have no idea how she's managed to keep the setting back in the 1980s.
I also read one of the earlier books that I had missed in the Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison, Every Which Way but Dead. It explains a lot of things that were confusing to me -- too bad I missed it earlier. I like her books, which are urban fantasy. Rachel Morgan is a kickass witch with a good sense of humor.

Finished reading Scent of Butterflies by Dora Levy Mossanen not sure if I got the recommendation from a pea? or maybe a book blog? thanks if I did! I really liked it and would never have picked it up otherwise!! It is about an iranian woman who finds her husband and best friend in bed together and how she leaves him and plots a sort of revenge on both of them. I always like getting a different perspective on cultures and this was interesting. At times this book was pretty wacky as the main character had a crazy obsession with butterflies..but I totally thought it worked for the story!!!
On Audio I finished S.E Hinton's The Outsiders which I was drawn to after reading Rob Lowe's book and hearing his account of filming the movie. Loved revisiting the great story between the greasers and the Socs and it was great on Audio!!

I am currently reading Queen of the Road by Doreen Orion. A funny memoir about a husband and wife psychiatrists team who take to the road in a converted bus. I am currently trying to convince my husband this is something we should do once my youngest is done college. My friends think I'm nuts but it sounds so much fun. I would give this book 4 /5 stars.

I just finished reading Donna Andrews The Good, the Bad, and the Emus book [HASH]17 in the Meg Andrews series. I loved it!
And now I'm reading Dutch Me Deadly by Maddy Hunter. This was a welcome surprise as there hadn't been a new entry in the series since 2007. I discovered they had started the series back up in 2012 while browsing around paperback swap a few months ago.
