This meme on fb has one comment that struck a cord with me. ( the comment, not the meme, I'm fine with the meme ) It's one thing to say: "I don't believe in that but to each their own." Yes I believe the moon has more influence than a physical kind. Yes I believe there are experiences beyond the physical. And no I don't believe this can be physically proven. But I don't deny of such experiences just because of that, because in my personal experience these deeper and more "out there" experiences have proven to me ( in nonphysical ways ) they exist enough for me to believe they are part of existence. Therefore I express my self and life in a deeper and "beyond" way a lot. But I don't mock those who may not have these experiences or don't resonate with them. And I don't show dissapointment or disrespect to what they experience or believe if they support just the physical. I definitely enjoy a friendly debate about it though because it's opportunity for exploring ideas. I don't even show disrespect for those who are disrespectful to my beliefs. It does hurt me though how they can bring such a experience of resistance into their reality. I did post a long reply under one comment but it said I didn't have access. ETA: I meant it was a comment underneath the meme about showing dissapointment in those who believe crystals can heal and things like that. I added that in the ( ) above. |

I used to work at an assisted living center. I thought it was ridiculous what they said about a full moon; until I worked one night that it was a full moon.  Every month; weird shit went down. |

To me, it seems that the meme actually says the same as you: that the moon can influence people. I don't see any mockery there, but it's sad if it upset you. You have beliefs that aren't shared by most other Peas, but you always voice your opinion with respect and kindness.

I'm also maybe not seeing what you saw because I think this meme agrees with your ideas of the metaphysical. It's suggesting that behaviour is affected by full moons in a way that is unexplainable by conventional wisdom. The effect is enough to make social workers create a meme about it  |

As a nurse who worked night shift in a hospital for 15 years, I can vouch for the fact that things really DO get wild during a full moon, more often than not. Of course it's not all the time and of course I've never done research to prove it, but someone has.
It's not mocking anything. OP, you think too much and too literally. Take the meme at face value.

Read down the comments a bit - I don't think the issue is with the meme, it's with the dipwad who was "disappointed" in the number of professionals in mental health, social work and ER who didn't take the meme as a joke and actually believe that the full moon causes behaviour changes, and finished with a "do you believe in healing crystals, too?"
I used to work in a catalog call center, and even we dreaded the full moon because of the uptick in the batshit crazy calls that came in.
There might not be scientific proof, but for myself, I've seen it.

You really shouldn't worry what some random person says on a page that doesn't even belong to you. It's not worth your time or energy. It was nothing politically related and usually what one random person says doesn't cause a trigger in me. But this one did. It may have been from the guy expressing awareness in detail of metaphysics under face value ( like the moon and crystals ) and not allowing any space for it to just be. I see it as a beautiful dance he's throwing tomatoes at. |

I'm sorry you feel your beliefs are mocked. Humans are "generally" like that about things that aren't mainstream or understood. Some are better at thinking about consequences or connections than others. Your posts here cause me to stop and think about some things I avoid in my hectic life. I can have a different belief system/religion but still appreciate or benefit from them.

Anyone who doesn't think that the full moon or the weather have an influence on behavior needs to be locked in a room full of 2nd graders on a day with a full moon the day before a snow storm. Then we'll talk. Just ask any teacher, they can tell you when there's a full moon without looking. Some people (like that person who posted on the link) wear blinders and don't/won't see anything beyond what they think fits into their own little box. I feel sorry for them, their lives must be so bland and boring.

I don't know if it's a coincidence, but I just finished dealing with an hour long tantrum from my middle schooler about bedtime! He decided that tonight would be a great time to get into an epic argument over the subject. I was wondering what the h*ll was wrong with him. I wonder if the full moon had anything to do with it? Last night I felt much tension ( hence the silly little argument I had with my mom about where she put her hand basket ) . I didn't check to see if there was any collective astrological influence or not. And if astrology doesn't resonate with you then just discard this idea and laugh at it. The moon wasn't completely full, but it was in Gemini which can stir things up if aspected in a challenging way ) I'm wondering if Mars was interacting. I'm going to check... Well I found an influence from my personal astrology chart but nothing collectively. ( Jupiter ( expansion ) is on my Mars ( aggression ) and the moon ( emotion ) was aspecting that last night. ) Maybe your son had a similar aspect going on, and/ or maybe he's just being a teenager. And thank you for giving me the idea to see why I was feeling like I did last night. I probably would have never checked my chart if I didn't see your post. |

Metaphysics, homeopathy, and a long list of other things are, to some people, not just innocent belief systems that are attacked for no reason. They are a means of perpetrating fraud on people who sometimes refuse conventional treatments and then die of their illnesses.
I would never mock someone on FB or anywhere else about it, but I do speak up at opportune times and I try to be kind and non-snarky about it. For me, things with no empirical evidence to support their efficacy are snake oil. It might be fun and comforting for some people, but it's fraudulent and hurts real people, sometimes even killing them. This includes children and other people who can't consent, and people who can't differentiate between proven medical treatments and junk science.
Junk science and alternative medicines is people refusing to vaccinate their children because it might cause autism. It's people who build an empire of lies about healing to make money from desperate sick people. It's Steve Jobs dying earlier and in more pain from his cancer. It's so, so, so much money into the pockets of liars, cheats, and hucksters.
I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings; it's the truth as I see it, and I believe the stakes are higher than feelings - otherwise, I wouldn't speak up about it, even on the internet. I'm saying it here to maybe explain a bit why some people are outspoken about it.
