My son just showed me that if you use Google Chrome you can play videos from your computer straight to your TV. They've added a button for it. Hamilton videos are much better on 60 inch screen.

We've been doing that for awhile now with our WDTV Live box.

Where is the button?

Where is the button? Next to the button you use to make the video full screen. Hover over it and it will say Play on TV.

We have an app on our TV for YouTube videos. I'm pretty sure if I hover nothing will happen on our TV. But I'll try it tomorrow. ETA: Just looked and there is nothing next to the full screen button to hover over. I'm guessing maybe you have to be on a laptop. Or have ChromeCast.

Sounds like you have a Chromecast? I used one of those before I got my Firestick. They are great!

If so, you need to change your OP or people like me will be confused.

Hmmm, Chrome is my browser but it's not working for me. I don't understand how your computer *speaks* to your TV.

We can watch YouTube on our older tv with the Wii U, and our newer smart tv has a built in app.

I have that button but I have a chromecast. It's a browser add-on so anyone can add it but before I had the chromecast set up the button didn't work.

If you mean the button with the little arcs in the corner of the rectangle, that is the button that allows you to cast via chromecast. I don't see any other button that says play on tv when you hover over it on youtube videos using chrome. Maybe it works with other devices somehow? eta: just tried it and it actually did work directly to my tv. The tv has a youtube app though. Attachments:

Just checked and it's definitely using the youtube app. I'm curious how it could work on a tv without youtube.

I have Amazon Firestick in the bedroom and TiVo Bolt in the living room and both have the ability to play You Tube videos through an app

This OP is all kinds of confusing.
Using Chrome on your browser, playing Youtube on your TV can only work either if you have Chromecast (stick) or the YouTube app on the TV/Cable access. There has to be a way to have the computer and the TV to "talk", if you know what I mean.
I'm presuming that the TV has a resident YouTube app, or they're running their TV through another platform such as Xbox.

We have 2 newer Samsung TVs and Frontier (not sure if that makes a difference.). The remotes that came with the TVs have a "smart hub" button that pulls up a bunch of different options/icons/apps.
We watch YouTube videos and Amazon Prime movies (we are members) on both TVs. No computer or box needed. Love that option.

OP, did you talk to your son? Inquiring minds and all that.

When I click on that button, it shows my Roku box. I'm guessing something like that.

I am just seeing this but I do use Chrome. When I pulled up YT, I noticed I do have that button on the bar. When I clicked on it, it gave me two choices to sling it to. One was a BD something something and the other was a Vizio tv. The TV in the room I am in right now is a Samsung but I have a Vizio in my scraproom and bedroom. Just too lazy to run and check to see right now. On both of those TVs I do have a YT app.

I found a link and tried to edit my post above but it didn't let me put spaces between my words. Anywhoooo, here is the link I found that tells you how(sort of) to do what the OP is stating. How to pair YT without Chromecast

Sorry, was at work. I asked my son and he didn't know. So much for being my go to tech guy. lol He was here with his laptop and noticed it come up on his. He came to see if it was on mine. Neither one of us had seen it before (or maybe I just didn't notice). He's still investigating.

My DDs have been doing that for awhile. Their favorites are videos from various dance schools, mainly in US and South Korea.

I could be wrong on that though.

We have a Samsung smart tv and we can do it with that. It is good because I can play different Peppa Pig or other shows for my son and not have to take up space recording it on the dvr.

That is so awesome! I just did it and it worked. We don't have chromecast. I guess it works through the wifi.
