Spin-off of my own thread, the one about "glorified rice"... How about "cherry coke salad"? Cherry Coke SaladThis one doesn't seem quite as bad as the glorified rice one because usually I love all things cherry. But why does everything have to have pineapple in it? I only like pineapple if it's fresh, or juice. Not sure why but maybe it goes back to some childhood trauma involving crushed pineapple and jello?? Lol..if it does, I've repressed it from my memory. But the Facebook thread that first told me about Glorified Rice this morning has now branched off into the merits of "cherry coke salad".

My sister, who has fairly refined tastes, loves this salad.

This one looks interesting. The glorified rice tastes a bit like tapioca, so I like it.

While I admit that the actual recipe is better than what I was imagining (mixed greens with cherry coke vinaigrette or something) it's still a big "no" for me. I am not a fan of any sort of cola at all. I drink very, very little (almost no) soda, but if I'm going to have any, it will be ginger ale or a clear soda.

My mom has always made a cherry coke salad for Thanksgiving but she uses black cherry jello, canned pitted dark cherries and coke in place of the cold water in the jello mix. It is one of my favorites and I am making it for our Thanksgiving.

OMG, now that is hideous! I don't understand why some desserts are called salads, I'd never heard of it until I joined 2 Peas. For us a salad is something to accompany the main meal or can be a meal in itself - like a warm chicken salad.

I will have to share my recipe. It does not have pineapple in it, but has red sweet cherries. I won't be home until after Dec. 15th and will try to remember to share.

The pineapple doesn't bother me, but the pie filling doesn't sound good. With other cherries and especially cool whip it would sound better.

Canned pie filling is disgusting! mom2rjcr ‘s version sounds okay though, with cherries as opposed to pie filling, although I’d probably prefer frozen or fresh cherries.

It's crazy that this thread is 3 years old but the title was intriguing. I just made Watergate salad for the first time last night. It's pretty yummy as far as pistachio pudding and cool whip go.
I was hoping to start a thread for Peas to share their favorite jello/pudding based "salads" (let's just face it, they are DESSERT but are probably eaten at any time of the day or night).
I love cherry flavor and like to do one large box of cherry or raspberry jello prepared as on the box except with a little less water but also add in a can of whole berry cranberries and either mix in cool whip while it's warm (that makes it a bit like a mousse) or wait and just use cool whip on the top. This and the Watergate salad are the only jello salads I've ever had.

I hate when they call jello a "salad". I've never had that recipe of cherry coke salad, BUT I have made cherry jello with coke and jarred cherries (not pie filling, just the fruit). I've also made various flavors of jello with sprite (I love the carbonation, but it's overly sweet for me now, I may try to make a batch with carbonated water now that it's easier to find). Off to find your rice thread now because I have to know what's "glorified" about it.

Um I can’t get the recipe to show!
But I do like these types is side dishes. I always like a bit of sweet to go with savory.

Oh dear God...absolutely not. No, nope, not ever. Apologies to any lovers of this conglomeration, but it truly sounds horrible .

I love it though I do not want nuts on top or anywhere near my jello
