I grew up listening to a steady stream of Bill Cosby and Robin Williams. This makes my heart sad.

Birdcage...that was my favorite Robin Williams movie. I watch that movie 10 times a year (or more).
He was a gifted actor and comedian...the world lost one of the best today.

This is just so sad. I really thought he would live a nice long life, cracking jokes and making people smile.

It helps being able to share this kind of grief with so many people who all get it. The Fisher King is one of my favorite movies ever. And Hook is in our family's top 5, it's on regular rotation, we just watched it on the way to the beach a couple weeks ago. I wish he had not felt so without hope. Bangarang Robin.

He was just back at Hazelden in MN for treatment again this summer. He was obviously struggling greatly again. Shevy, I saw this on our local news this summer and they said he checked himself in for maintenance. There was also a picture of him with a local waitress...of course he was all smiles. So very sad!

“The problem is, God gave man a brain and a penis and only enough blood to run one at a time.” ― Robin Williams
One of my favorites stand up lines, RIP Robin Williams

This is the first time I sat down all day. My internet browser is set to msn when I open it, and when I clicked it open that was the first story I saw. I sat there for a few minutes, jaw dropped for it to actually register what I was seeing. I don't usually get shocked or heartbroken over celebrity deaths, but I really liked Robin Williams. Such a sad sad thing. Depression is awful.

So very sad. I feel for his wife and children and all of his friends. My husband and I were just talking about Mork and Mindy at lunch today, he was envious that I owned a Mork doll. I can't imagine anyone who was a child in the 70's didn't love that show and who didn't try to drink with their finger or sit upside down on the couch. His tv show he had last season with Michelle Gellar was very funny, the outtakes at the end were hilarious. So sad that so many talented comedians who bring such joy to other people suffer with such terrible demons.
May he rest in peace.

I'm so shocked and saddened. A very bright light in this world had gone out. Dead Poets is one of my all time favorite movies. He made us laugh until we cried. His roles were full of inspiration. His humor made us think while being entertained. His energy was infectious. His quick wit kept us on our toes. He gave so much of himself. May he rest in peace.

How horrible that a man who made the world laugh was so profoundly depressed. I hope he is peace now, but his talent and great heart will be missed. Robin Williams IS the comedian of my era; no one can replace him. I've not read the whole thread, but this is what I keep coming back to. Who was there to help him through all of his dark, sad, hard, unhappy days like he helped so many?

That's so sad. He was always a kind person but not surprised he struggled with demons. I did always wonder about one thing. I had read reports that he went to school with Christopher Reeves and paid for his medical care in the end and when Dana died he took their son in. I tried googling this but found mixed reports and not much info. Does anyone know if he did end up raising their son?

It's that the scope of his mental illness was overwhelming.

I just saw this on yahoo, and my stomach literally plummeted and I gasped.
It's so sad, so heartbreaking.
No, I didn't "know" him. But it almost feels that way, doesn't it? I've watched his stand up on tv. He's made me laugh, then cry, then laugh again in movies.
He was so young. Too young.
I hope his demons have finally gone and he can rest in peace.

I'm really sad about this, and I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one sad about someone I didn't know. Netflix suggested Birdcage today, and I folded laundry while laughing before I heard the news.

When I was in college Mork and Mindy was a regular show we'd all watch in the lounge. Robin Williams was so funny and the show was so lighthearted it was a great relief for any studying that we were suppose to be doing. Then, once I was out of college and working I looked forward to watching it while grading papers!

RIP Robin.

I'm so sad about this. Hook is one of my kids' favorites. I loved Awakenings. Robin could play serious, funny, anything in between. Wishing peace for his children and family.

If all of us who didn't know him can feel so deeply saddened, I can't imagine the pain his family and friends must be going through. Depression is just. so. awful. I hate to think of his suffering. I pray that his spirit is at peace now.

I haven't been so shocked by a celebrity death since Phil Hartman. I wish I could go back to yesterday and just hug him.
