How do you manage to get 4 5x7s out of a piece of paper? I currently have a rotary trimmer, but I am thinking I could afford a new trimmer if I could manage to get more out of each piece of paper. Any instructions you could provide would be amazing! SaveSaveYou have to set your paper five inches in and then cut 7 inches up. The turn the paper 90 degrees and do it again. When you finish doing this a total of four cuts, you have a 2 x 2 inch square left and four 5 x 7's. I'll check to see if there is a video. It is really easy. Ohhhh! I get it...this is totally life changing...LOL! Thank you so much! I will get so much more out of my paper from now on. SaveSave

I have an Xacto laser trimmer I absolutely love. The laser part hasn't worked in several years but it still cuts just beautifully.

I have the purple and orange fiskars and a cutterpillar pro. They both have pros and cons but I probably would not recommend the Fiskars as even after years and years of using this I still find that I have issues getting a straight cut with it and the blades although easy to find and fairly cheap seem to blunt rather quickly, I am certain that there is better options for a portable trimmer but it is what I have and I am not spending anything on another portable trimmer. On the other hand the cutterpillar pro cuts beautifully with no jagged edges and you can literally shave just a sliver off , I got it on a great sale, it is fairly light but very sturdy at the same time and the light is a wonderful addition but again I find it is out by just a smidge and knowing that drives me batty.

I am sure I saw this on a craft show years ago. I think if you drew a 2 inch square in the middle of your paper and drew a line coming off of each of its sides (one direction only) you could see how the cuts should look. I don't do it this way, but at least you could figure out what I am trying to say by visualizing it. The key is stopping at exactly 7" or you cut into the next piece. ETA: Or better yet, look at this. cocscrapbooking.com/how-to-cut-5x7-mats-from-12x12-paper/ This is what I love about the Fiskars trimmers! I cut exact sizes like this most of the time. Mine is really old, so I may get the newer one with the wire guide at some point. The wire wears out for some people, but not others, so I'm still undecided about it. I recently upgraded from my little 6" Creative Memories guillotine to a 12" Tonic. It makes very square, straight cuts. It's nice having both the Fiskars and the Tonic for different purposes. I keep both nearby when I'm creating.
