I do. My district makes teachers report today so students can come tomorrow Same here. My kids go to different schools, and none of them has to go in today (nor do their teachers). Like melissa said, the streets were deserted, and the bus flew through the (usually) traffic-choked portion of my commute. Silver linings...

Not working today, but this is my last holiday until Memorial Day. For me too. That's really depressing to think about! Sometimes my boss will give us President's day off but it isn't a paid holiday. Me three. The first half of the year stinks with no paid holidays but the second half is sweet. We actually have a calendar countdown to Memorial Day every year. SaveSave

And feel u should be home!? We had to work...and there is no reason we shouldn't be home sleeping on this nasty rainy day. Not a federal or anything that must be open..just since holiday is on a weekend we get jipped... Sorry....cranky today (and to the 2 girls who "called in sick"....you'll get yours...lol) Luckily I am off today! You know how dh's company solved people calling in "sick" the day before or after a holiday? They instituted a policy that says if you call in sick the day before or after a paid holidays and you don't have a drs note, you lose your holiday pay. Virtually no one has called in since they did that. Where I work is closed today. But we have this policy in place as well.

One of our local school districts only had six weekdays off for winter break. They were off Dec 23-Dec 30. They were back in school today. That's just wrong!

Yep. Not me, but the teachers in our district did. And so did the kids (not that it's technically 'work', but they did report to school today).
Husband had to work, too. A lot of the people in his company were off, but since he's an auditor and deals w/retail (who, of course were open today), he had to work.

I worked 1/2 day today and have done nothing since. Woke up to a thunderstorm, power went out, got dressed and ready in the dark. Got to work and we had a flood over the weekend. All the carpet is still wet. An hour into cleaning up, the power went out. It finally came back on and we cleaned up what we could and went home. What a way to start the new year.

We're on vacation, so no work. Here in Australia where we are visiting, Jan 2 was a 'make up' public holiday, because Jan 1 fell on a Sunday - same thing happened last week with Christmas too. Back home in Germany, Jan 2 was a regular work day - if a public holiday falls on a weekend, we're just out of luck; no make up days. Overall though, 2017 is a good year for us, as the only weekend PH was New Year - everything else is a weekday, and quite a few fall on Mondays and Fridays, giving us lots of long weekends.

Yes I have to work. But I also had to work yesterday, Christmas Day, the Monday after Christmas (dec 26th), etc, etc, etc. So really it is just another day, in another week, in another year. Same here. As we say at my workplace: "Holidays are for other people".

No I didn't have to work on Monday as it was a replacement public holiday for New Years Day. I also took today (Tuesday) off as an annual leave day and then I have to go back to work on Wednesday. Not working today, but this is my last holiday until Memorial Day. I had to google to see when Memorial Day was.... May!! That sucks. Don't you get days off for Easter?

I worked today and yesterday, and the day before. Today isn't a holiday anymore, so I don't see why it's a big deal. I would have liked to have New Year's off - but mostly b/c of all the fireworks and noise going on all night long in the neighborhood. I work extremely early in the morning, so only had a couple of hours of sleep.
