SF Gate has this article about the women's march the day after trump ascends to his throne. They are planning on roughly 100,000. It could be more or less. But it will be interesting to see how big the march will be and how trump's ego will handle it. I'm sure tweets will fly. Especially if other cities have marchs in conjunction to the one In DC. I'm not sure if anything like this has ever happened when a new president takes office before.

NYC is also having a march I'm thinking about going to.

Why would a protest march require up to 2 million dollars? From the article: "Exactly how big the march will be has yet to be determined, with organizers scrambling to pull together the rest of the necessary permits and raise the $1 million to $2 million necessary to pull off a march triggered by Shook's Facebook venting."

My daughter and her cousin, along with my SIL are going. My daughter is busy knitting "pussy hats". I'll attend the march in Boston instead.

Do you think it'll be covered by the news channels?

It's probably fees related to transportation, security and safety for the marchers, food, rentals of porta potties, etc. I'm not sure if there's a fee to rent the area where they'll be marching.

Several friends and I are considering going to downtown Chicago on the day of the march. I hope to make a few hats (must knit furiously...) for us. I want to mail at least one hat to someone who will wear it in DC.

My family and I are going to the march here in Spokane. There are also marches in Seattle and Olympia and I have heard of smaller marches in one of the smaller towns. There is a march in Portland Oregon that I know some participants.

A few people at our church are making fleece versions that are pretty cute, and much easier.

I want to mail at least one hat to someone who will wear it in DC. Link for the pattern, please. Here's the website: Pussyhat Project. With that said, I'm not using the pattern suggested because it's knit flat and then seamed, and I hate seaming. I'm making up my own pattern based on some others that I saw on Ravelry. I cast on 96 stitches, joined and the round, and will knit ribbing for 3-4 inches (haven't decided yet). Then I will knit in stockinette until it measures about 9 inches. Bind off will either done using kitchener stitch or the three-needle bind-off. I'll probably do the three needle bind-off because it's pretty easy and that would be too many kitchener stitches for me! Here's a link to a video that demonstrates how to make this kind of hat. The project is for a baby hat, but it's the very same concept and shows how to do the three-needle bind-off for this kind of project. I've made a few of these hats before and the pattern is easy and really cute. Tassel Hat
Oh-- I'm using Hobby Lobby I Love this Yarn in Hot Rose because I don't have time to order anything and there is no local yarn shop that I know of around here other than HL and Michaels.

A few people at our church are making fleece versions that are pretty cute, and much easier. Fleece, what a good idea! Maybe the hat I'm doing might be easier. As I said in my above post, I hate working flat and then seaming. It's much easier to work in the round.

I do not want to put up with all those people or traffic mess.

I hope this helps, Elaine. I was just crediting you for my Silhouette purchase in a thread a couple of days ago! Thank you! I'll have to pick up some pink yarn. i'm so happy I helped you buy a Sihouette. I still use mine regularly for a variety of projects. It was probably the best scrapbook-related purchase that I ever made.

Are these pussy hats (or something similar) for sale anywhere? I'm so not handy with needles or a sewing machine.

DD16 turns 17 on the 21st. (whaaaaaaaaa?) But anyhow, DD19 already informed him (and asked if he was okay with) that she won't be around as she will be marching in Madison. I don't know if she's seen the Pussyhat Project but if I show her after she's home from work, I'll bet a trip to JoAnn's will be on her list of things to do tomorrow on her day off.

NYC is also having a march I'm thinking about going to. I'm pretty sure I'm going to NYC - I have a friend that registered a group. Haven't thought about it much more than that - need to get some buttons and/or hat.

In fact, my new Silhouette arrived a few hours ago! Unfortunately I've got crazy work hours the next few days. I look forward to more play time!

Anyone who is going to D.C. and would like a hat, let me know. I'll knit as many as I can. We can meet up someplace, or I can mail out, if you cover the cost of shipping.
Just reply and let me know!

Why don't I know how to knit. I've been taught... It's like crafty math combined with some eye hand coordination and completely over my head. I am going to be in DC. I'd love a hat if you have time Elaine and I'd gladly pay.
