No one should ever have to fear for safety in their place of worship. (I know that's a problem in many places, I'm just saying how it *should* be.) Truly a horrible, tragic thing.

Canada has had its share of terrorist insidents, however, we are a nation of far less people than the USA. I believe our whole country's population could almost match the population of California. We are not free of terrorism or just any type of bad people. Plenty of senseless killings here too. Thank you for not blaming us. This is horrific and keeps happening all over the world. I'm very sorry that it has happened again and to our neighbors

It really bothers me that Fox News still has on their twitter timeline that the suspect was a Moroccan. No, he's a Canadian and yes, that does make a difference. We are freely letting refugees into our country. They aren't causing problems, let's not perpetuate that myth. The shooter was a white, male Canadian probably with mental issues. He committed an act of terrorism.
In my community, we have received many refugees that are doing their best to start over. A group of new Syrian refugee women in town have started a catering company cooking traditional foods. They have a mentor who speaks English and she is helping them with the language and business plan. They are involved in "pop up" booths around the city and at festivals. They've been well received by the public and the food is awesome. They are a perfect example of trying their best to fit in and start a new life.

And we, the American people, are not?

I think she was talking as a Canadian about Canadians. We (Cdns and Americans) are definitely better than this vile hatred.

They are all very sweet and very happy to be here. The kids were skittish to start and I don't blame them...imagine what they've been through. I can't. Their eyes were haunted the first few weeks. Now, the kids are comfortable and they are thriving. I'm glad they are here. One of the moms and I talked the other day when waiting to pick our kids up. She was mentioning how she was dealing with the cold weather. She said that she was very thankful that she was even alive to FEEL THE COLD. It sent shivers up my spine. I told her we were really happy they were here too. She is a wonderful lady and her English is getting better every time I see her. She said that one of the shocking things but fun for her was going to the GROCERY store for the first time. She said her son thought he was in heaven with all the food!! LOL. A few of the families have brought traditional foods into their children's classes to teach the kids about their culture. It was very well received.

I've worked in a lot of schools in "our" city and surrounding (maybe even yours LOL). I've worked in public schools downtown where English is the second language. The kids have always be excellent and the mothers volunteer their time even with the language barrier.
