Tell me I'm not alone for having a brilliant idea in your head. Then, you start to execute it and realize the idea is going to take forever.
I'm attempting to scrap a single photo of my daughter the day she got her Halloween costume. She dressed up as Captain America. Since there is nothing Halloween related in the pic, using my Halloween papers looked stupid. I dug around for Fourth of July papers and found some old BoBunny from 2010. One page was a distressed red with stripes kind of in a sunburst pattern from the bottom right corner. I thought it would be brilliant to add some white stitching along the burst. I don't sew FYI. I pulled out my Sew Easy supplies and got to work. It's now day three. I hate sewing. Why did I ever come up with this idea? If I hadn't pierced all the holes ahead of time, I would have modified my original idea.
So, what have y'all done like this? Did you go into a layout all gung-ho about it and then realize how much work it would be? Tell me I'm not alone!

BTDT. May I repeat what I posted in a different thread: THIS IS WHY I HAVE A HUGE STASH! I usually have ( at least) two sheets of the paper I plan to work with. That way, if I mess up or abandon one of them, I can pull out a fresh sheet and do something different.
BTW, I think you will love this page when you are done. Sounds like an amazing idea!

I just finished a LO using lots of icons fussy cut out of a piece of PP (Simple stories) - I fussy cut about 15 small items (the dog, the cat, the sunglasses, the flowers...) and it took me forever, with the idea of layering them in the sides of the photo. Didn't like the look after all that cutting - too busy and unfocussed. Used them anyways because I couldn't bear not to, but will not repeat the mistake Yours will probably look fabulous, and next time you'll be better at the sewing!

We have stories like that circulating through our scrap group! I was doing a "license plate game" layout and decided that paper pieces license plates running around the entire 12 x 12 border would be great. My friends didn't care for the first version, so I added another layer - which, according to them, wasn't enough definition. So I added another layer -- ultimately creating a bunch of 1.5" x .75 inch "license plates" for the border of that page. It is cute but took hours to execute! In the days when all we had were hand punches - some of which were pretty sticky, especially the more intricate ones! - a friend created a two page background, so 12 x 24, of "Mickey heads" with that 1/2 inch "swirl" punch for ears on a 3/4" circle.

I have the Sew-Easy thing from WRMK somewhere in the basement with the thread and all the punch wheel things. I found that using a sewing machine through paper is much more effective and it takes only seconds of my time. I have a zillion stitches I can choose from on my machine. That is what I do in the same situation. It might not be feasible for you or you don't have a sewing machine nor the choice of stitches.
I get bored with a layout if it takes too long and I don't know where it is going. This is one reason I buy page kits that have the design on them already. I know what it will turn out like and don't have to worry on my bad designing skills LOL.

lilacgal Oh yes, I have been there. So frustrating! Usually I just put the layout aside until I figure it out. I thought of you when I saw this on IG a bit ago. A Halloween layout with no traditional Halloween elements.

This layout comes to mind: NC15-Ch4 by Lisa Davolt, on Flickr It was an Things That Shine cut file she made for a crop here. I used all the little pieces and glued them to my red cardstock. Took for.ev.er. But I really am thrilled with it. Your sunburst will be well worth it once it's finished.

Yup.
Decided to make one of those chipboard books w/the binder rings for my husband's aunt. We had all gone to Cape Cod together one summer and when I saw the book, I thought it would be cute to make it for her. Yeah. Seven chipboard letter pages, each one bigger than the last, needing to be traced onto the paper. Then cutting the paper, gluing it to the page, trimming it & then sanding it. Aaaah!! And then, of course I had to find pics that fit each page, add embellishments & journal. Aaaaah! And then to GIVE IT AWAY. <sigh>
One of my best friends & I were at a crop and she talked me into making a really cute title for a beach volley ball page. Cut the strip & spread the sandy goop on it. While waiting for it to dry, paint the chipboard letters. While waiting for them to dry, move onto another project. Or 3. Next day, paint the letters w/Crystal Effects - they'll be so much cuter shiny! Wait for them to dry. Next day (good thing I started this on the Friday of the 3 day crop!), try a bunch of different adhesives to see which one will keep chipboard adhered to a sandy surface. Is it cute? Sure. Was it worth it? I still tease her about 'making' me do it, lol.
BTW, your stitching will look really cute. It is tedious & time consuming, but I love my Sew Easy. A tip that may work for you, I try to plan my stitching for the end of my scrappy day. Then I can do it in front of the TV, so it isn't so monotonous. Good luck!

been there, done that- quite often! I have what seems like a pretty simple embellishment idea, then when I'm halfway into it, I realize the error of my ways. but by then, it's too late to change it, lol!
Like the Hawaii album; I thought it would be easier / cheaper to make my own flower embellishments, using my Silhouette, rather than just buying stickers. But I needed a LOT of them, since I'm decorating pages all through an entire album.
Each flower had two leaves and 5 petals- but to make them look realistic, I chalked the edges of each petal, with two different colors, then had to glue each flower together, overlapping them 'just so' to look right. After about 1 1/2 hours, I think I had, maybe, 5 flowers made?? Yeah- not so simple, after all!!
Just think how great that page will look when you're done with it, though!!

This is what happens when you have carpool, lunch, and recess duty on the same week - you forget to come back and post an update! Thanks for sharing your awesome layouts. I'm glad to know I'm not alone in those visions of grandeur! It took me three days, but I finally finished the stitching. I really do like how it turned out!

That layout looks great, and I love what you wrote about your daughter "defining girls everywhere." Good for both of you!! As for tedious layouts, I have given up on those. I find that simple is the way I roll. For a long time, I was trying to make my layouts more embellished and layered, but I've realized that my style is more simple, but definitely not boring. If a design isn't working, or if it's taking way too long, I re-think it and alter it if I can. If I can't, then I do the best I can and try to remember to simplify next time. This is my hobby, so if it starts to get stressful, I have to change what I'm doing. I'm a much happier scrapper now!

I talked to my daughter ahead of time that some people may think she is a boy dressed like that. She did hear some people pass us and say things like, "Cool costume. He's dressed as Captain America." She let it roll off and by the end of the night was giggling each time because she fooled them. We even ran into another little girl dressed as the Cap too! She loved that and they had a girl power high five. Btw, love your user name! I think my daughter should dress as young Amelia Pond for next Halloween.

I got the baby bug the week it came out. I thought it would be cool to have a die cut of every single thing on the Cricut cartridges. Ha. I had several cartridges and it was so time consuming. Fast forward to the time when the digital images began. That was so much easier to run a copy of that. I also thought it would be fun to have a die cut of every punch and die that I owned. I have hundreds of each.
