I often buy the paper kits- that have 2 of each pattern and the sticker sheet or something like that. I find the pad is often way too much but I worry that I will miss something wonderful if I do not get all the papers. LOL I have bought pads when I just really love the paper. One of the original Dear Lizzy lines comes to mind- I have used too much of that paper.

Personally, I just buy the sheets most of the time, I don't need all those pads taking up space - there are always new things I want to get!

I have found the paper in most 12x12 paper pads is thinner than the individual sheets so I would rather buy individual sheets. I have thought this, too.
I also hate that they are usually single sided. I often use the B side, like others have stated.

Like others have posted: Depends on how many of the sheets I like and would use. You had 16 sheets in your cart. Were they all different? Would you get 2 of them? Also, if money were never an issue I'd always go individual sheets, I think they're better quality in most lines. Too bad, I always want the value.

Depends on which designs you want. Many (all?) of the American Crafts brands only put the A sides in the paper pad. So if you are wanting anything that is a B side you have to buy the individual sheets. hmmm-- I did not know that! as a mostly B-side scrapper, that kind of stinks!
But it's good information, and it sort of explains why I don't like a lot of the papers in those pads when I saw them at Joann's; because they only have the larger patterns!
My answer (disregarding the above fact) is also about value. If the individual sheet price is more than the entire pad price would be, or unless I wanted 6 sheets of one particular pattern, I'd buy the paper pad. That's what I do now; if I like at least half the papers, I'll buy the pad. I rip the ones I DON'T like out right off the bat; I'll either turn them over and use the white side, or use them in some other way-- as test sheets for Silhouette cuts, to protect my surface when I'm inking or stamping, gluing, etc. Or, I'll save some of them to use in my art journals-- I can make 'uglier' papers work in my art journal because it's a totally different style than my typical scrapbooking style.

Unless I really liked all of the sheets, but was planning on just buying my favorites due to cost, then I would stick to the single sheets simply because my scrap space is so very limited.
In my case, though, if I did like all of the sheets, I would likely just buy the 6x6 or 8x8 pad because I am currently working mostly with pocket pages, so the small sizes would be fine for me. then if there were a few that I just loved so much, then I might add just a couple of 12x12 sheets. I have oodles of collections where I have a small pad and just 2-4 full size sheets.

Depends on the quality of the papers in the pads. I've bought some that have nice thick paper, some double sided even, and those I don't have trouble buying the pad. Also stuff like Disney themes, I buy the pad because I never know which designs I'm going to need when I go to work on that album. I also don't have any problem buying single sheets (and I almost always get two of each) if I know exactly what I'm going to do with it.

Individual. Especially since I'm theme-challenged & our son is my primary scrap subject, I never like or would actually use enough papers in pads to consider buying them. The first & last paper pad I purchased was Chatterbox Den, when I started scrapping/collecting supplies almost 15 years ago!
