has anyone ordered them on e-bay, and did they work, and did you have any problems getting them? They are very inexpensive compared to the brand name dies sold here, and I just wondered if they were worth taking a chance buying. I have also seen them for sale on Amazon.
thanks...

I have not personally from Ebay or elsewhere but I know there are several peas who buy from Ali Express and were happy. If I remember right, was it paperpilekitten who I first learned about Ali Express? Hopefully some of them will give you some input.

I love shopping Ali Express, but I have never purchased any dies from there. They should be okay. The brand names are likely ordering their dies from the same Chinese factories so it shouldn't be any difference in quality?

Most of the stamp companies I buy from have their dies made in the US.

I have a few coming, but haven't gotten them, yet. I am planning another order or 7, lol. A friend of mine caved and ordered before I did and she said she was happy with them. They exceeded what she expected in terms of quality and thought they were great. Maybe hearsay and not firsthand, but I can't tell you how excited I am for my $20 in dies to come...I wouldn't even be able to buy one similar set of dies (cross stitched frames) from Lawn Fawn for that price for what I'm getting about 6 various sets (most being cross stitched frames in various shapes) for.

There is a popular set on ebay and aliexpress that goes for under $2 for 4 word dies (hello, congratulations, with love and one other that I can't remember at the moment). They ARE spellbinders. Spellbinders has them in 2 sets of 2 for $9.99 each.

thanks everyone for all of your answers. I hope that you feel better soon mamakoala, and enjoy your new dies. Looking forward to your report. scrapaddict702, can you share where you ordered them from please. I have seen some on Amazon and a lot on e-bay. I saw the word dies, they do look like the Spellbinders dies. I was concerned that they might not work since the price is so much less than name brand dies, but for the price, and a lot of them ship free, I think I will be ordering some very soon, including some cross stitched frames. One more question, if you ordered them from China, how long did they take to get to you? Thanks again.

Other times I forget it is coming and it is like a surprise when it finally shows up. Eta is usually around 3 to 6 weeks (it will say for each seller, depending on how they ship). I have bought a lot of washi this way (from ebay) and enamel dots direct from aliexpress and they are the same as you would buy for a lot more in the states. I don't have the shop name handy, but I will try to remember to link when I get home. Keep in mind, retail marks up prices significantly...these are likely manufacturers or distributors...it is cutting out the middle man. The things we often pay $$$$ for costs cents on the dollar to make.

I recently ordered 7 that cost me less than one I just received from SSS. I'll be sure to post something when I get them, but I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Every review I read was great and for the price, it was worth the risk. And by the way, I have a couple of name brand dies that I spent far more on that don't cut well and need to be fiddled with, so I doubt these will disappoint.

This is the shop I bought from, but there are literally hundreds out there. The friend who bought some ended up ordering from the shop I ordered washi from in the past, but their store is down right now, so I'm not going to bother linking it: www.ebay.com/sch/1st.vzu/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=They sell a lot more than just dies, so you might want to do a search in the store...you can get markers and other things. FYI, for people interested in the ZIG Clean Color Real Brush markers, you can get bundles for right around $1 a marker (MSRP is $3.50 each) from overseas as well.

I've bought many dies from AliExpress and I test cut each as it arrives. I have mostly stitched dies, tags and lablels, alphabets and numbers, they all cut well. I recently bought 5 sets for the price of one set in US die on sale. I love many shops have NO shipping fees. Mine arrived anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months. I just received one that I had given up hope of.ever receiving..

I've bought many dies on Ebay that come from China. No problems with the dies and the shipping was never unreasonable, longer, but not unreasonable.

There is quite a selection! This is a great way to pick up a die for something that I'm not sure I would use all that often. I will definitely be checking some of these out. Oh the exciting things I learn on this message board

Thanks for all the input. I've pretty much given up buying dies now I have my Cameo but will keep an eye out on Ali Express I have a cameo that I love so I only buy dies for things I would want to cut quickly that are small, like the tiny alphabets or have details like stitching. I also still use my handheld punches because sometimes it's just faster.

Many US scrapbooking brands buy from China. Sometimes they make their own designs and order custom made from China. Then it happens that the Chinese manufacturer makes more or have items left and sell them on Ali Express for next to nothing. Other times US brands buy ready made stock items from China and rebrand to their own brand. If you look at kit clubs, some items in kits are often purchased by the kit club through Ali Express and you can buy those items for a few cents or one dollar. And usually no shipping charges. So, it's a sweet deal if your scrap budget is tight.

I also still use my handheld punches because sometimes it's just faster. I have a Cameo & the Cricut Explore. I still buy dies for the embossing. I also love intricate dies. I think they cut better on a manual cutter than a machine. When I am doing collage or journaling I like to cut out specific images from my paper ephemera into shapes. Example- animal mosaic print turn it into a scalloped print. It is so much easier on a manual cutter. I am a frugalista I never liked paying $40 for a set of dies. I would just cut it out on my e-cutters. I love e-bay dies I can try different die cutting techniques without paying a lot of money. Forty dollars I can buy 30 dies. They are so thin they hardly take up any room in my art studio. paperpilekitten I was wondering if that was the reason why the dies and other scrapbooking pretties are so cheap. Thank you for confirming my suspicions, lol.

I have ordered tons..I seriously have a die problem. I have never ordered from alliexpress though. Just random ebay sellers. I have never had a problem at all. But they can take awhile to get here. I recognize some of the dies from certain retailers. And in reality I'm sure the dies I am buying are from the manufacturer.
I probably have order a hundred dies in the last 6 month. NOW. I do not order more than $10 worth at a time because if the package gets lost then oh well.
If I just want one die from a buyer I will buy two and give them as little scrappy presents.
I have recently saw the MFT stitched rainbow and sun (which I own and paid for from SSS) I am not even begin to say how much its going for as a set on there. Some are selling them separate though.
Also I have bought some seriously intricate dies and again they are awesome.
I have bought some shapes that I wouldn't normally buy but for a $1.50 yep its in my stash

I have bought some shapes that I wouldn't normally buy but for a $1.50 yep its in my stash I've bought a lot of dies from ebay, too, no Ali. They generally cut fine. Once in a while I'll get some missing the little pinholes, which usually isn't a huge deal if you're careful, and never bothers me. Many of the "brand name" stamps and dies sold on ebay are seconds. Most of the time it's nothing noticeable on the dies. If it's something justifiably bothersome, most sellers will refund. I get my packages about 1/2 within 2 weeks, 1/2 in 5-6 weeks. I've had one die arrive bent, I sent photos, the seller refunded immediately. Once in a while one gets lost or comes in super late, but most of the time if you contact the buyers when your last receive-by date comes, they'll have you wait one week in case it's just late, then refund. It's always better to refund (and rebuy on a fresh auction) than resend, because ebay and paypal both have time limits and won't back your purchase outside their time limits. Reshipping internationally will exceed those limits. All that said, I've been really happy with my dies!

Oh the exciting things I learn on this message board It is definitely a great way to add some different shapes. It really adds to your collection, because if you buy something for a $1 and even if you use it a couple times its still worth it.
If I'm only buying on die from a seller. I will generally buy 2 of the same shape and gift it to a scrappy friend. Also I buy 2 border dies so this way you can do a side by side or top and bottom cut at the same time.
I bought all the cross stitched framed dies. And wow I'm impressed. I did just have a batch that took 4 months to come in.

Do you have any particular sellers that you have bought from multiple times? Has customs been an issue? Any other helpful tips for an ebay newbie? I'm in Canada too Thanks in advance!

Fellow Canadian here. I've ordered several times from AliExpress, and the packages can take from 2 weeks to 6+ months to arrive. I'm still waiting for an order from October. I had given up hope, but then I went on the AliExpress board on Reddit, and they said that Canada Customs is so backed up with packages from China that orders from last fall are still trickling in. They said that at Customs, the new arrivals just get thrown on top of the pile, and then they get processed, leaving the stuff at the bottom unprocessed until things are a bit slower and the entire pile can get processed. Apparently things are so backed up due to increased smuggling of Fentanyl into Canada right now. This would apply to eBay sellers who ship from China as well. It doesn't stop me from ordering, I just order knowing I might not see anything for months. I placed 5 AliExpress orders in late March, and I actually received one last week - that fastest I've ever received an order (it was 5 stitched ovals dies). I'm hoping the other 4 orders come soon, as well as my order from last October. It only cost $1 so it's not that big a deal if it doesn't arrive.
