If you ever had a teenage driver, please remember to be patient with other new drivers! There's hundreds of them every single year. I have one right now and another one taking driver's ed this summer. I'm amazed at the number of rude people who ride bumpers, get nasty, etc at the "slow" car in front of them. I wish I could find one of those "student driver on board" signs (like those "baby on board" ones). I'd love to stick that in my window any time either one is driving so that they'd have a little more patience. I've noticed that people will give those driving school cars more distance, more leeway and not honk rudely at them because they understand it's someone who is learning how to drive. But if it's a regular car? If you're slowing them down somehow, it's honk, honk, honk, flip the bird, ride their bumper, making the poor teenager nervous.

My jerk neighbor just got a corvette. He has a 2 car garage, but i guess he doesn't want to crowd his car, so he parks his truck on the street in front of our fire hydrant and directly underneath the No Parking sign. It's especially annoying because my street is extremely narrow so i have to go about 2 miles an hour around his truck to make sure I don't knock my mirror off (or his). This is the same guy with the unleashed pitbull I posted about last month. I guess he thinks the rules don't apply to him. Please, please post a picture of him getting towed when it happens!! He sounds like such a tool.

I was recently driving on the interstate when a car got into the left lane to pass a semi in the right lane. The speed limit is 70. The semi was going 65, and I believe the car must have been going 65.001mph. I am not kidding when I say I followed these two vehicles for 18 miles! it seriously took the car 18 miles to pass the semi. I counted when the rest of us were finally able to pass, and there were 26 vehicles behind me.
If you're in the left lane, pass and get out of the way! I know there are those who say if they are going the speed limit in the left lane while passing, they have every right to drive there. I don't disagree. But if you aren't going to travel at the posted speed, and it takes you 18 miles to pass, get out of the way!!

I so need this thread, traffic circles, let's talk traffic circles. Which part of yield do people NOT understand. We had one installed last year in our little cow town because one particular intersection is the scene of at least one traffic death a year and usually more than one. So in goes the traffic circle, which I love. However, if I am in the circle, I have the right of way. If you are entering the circle, YOU YIELD. I can't tell you how many times I have slammed on my brakes because these people have no clue what yield means.
Also, since I have started, the second offensive thing other drivers do (never me) is wait forever at 4 ways. If the car across from you is going straight through, then you should go at the same time, not wait until that car is damned near through and then go. The road has a lane for each direction, step on it honey buns. If you choose not to go when the person opposite you goes, then plan to sit there while the other two directions take their turn. It's crazy. It's like they think only one car at a time can go.
Finally, another four way stop incident, if you choose to get in line behind 6 cars turning left, don't get mad at me for using the right hand lane and getting ahead of you. Seriously, there were at least six cars in the left lane, there were no cars in the right lane. So, I got in the right lane and when the car next to me did their left turn, I went straight. There was no oncoming traffic. Suddenly about 2 miles down the road this crazy guy who was in the car that got behind all those cars in the left lane shoots past me, cuts into my lane and slams on his brakes. WTH? I'm not sure exactly how I offended him except that perhaps he was angry that he didn't think of it first? I did nothing illegal, I came to a complete stop. Again, more than one car is allowed to go at the same time. Idiot, I just went around him again and kept going. I don't play games like that on the road.

So, I do live in the country with little traffic, but school pick up and drop off makes me stabby. Those adorable 5 year olds move slower than turtles. Continually turning around and saying I love you, I love you, I love you, makes me want to yell she knows! My son's school has zero handicap parking. Is that even legal? I now have permission to park where the buses are supposed to park. Luckily, I get him at 10 minutes after they leave. I get my daughter almost 15 minutes after school ends because some kids are incapable of opening a door and getting in, in a timely manner. I have had issues with sheep crossing and I hit a baby deer once. Also, you don't know what dark really is until you are driving on a pitch black country road. I do love it when I can turn my brights on! Oh, the pot holes! We have had record snow and record melting. There was a 7 mile stretch of interstate with straight pot holes that has somewhat been repaired. The sounds my van makes scares me on that road.
I'm wondering if you live in my area. I thought you lived further south, but maybe not. You need Mario Cart skills to navigate the freeway pot holes right now. insert code here

This thread is timely, I posed the following rant on FB today....and I don't post all that often, so clearly I was peeved!
Dear Drivers. If you're not comfortable going over 12mph in a 30, maybe you should reconsider whether you still belong behind the wheel of a car....sigh.

Today was a bad day. He turned in paperwork to the State of Colorado (some medical thing he has to have).. He faxed it in January, got a confirmation that they got it. Well today his boss (or dispatcher) called and he now cannot move because the State said they never got the paperwork. He's probably now sitting for a minimum of 3 days. And what sucks it's taken him about a month to get going and bam now he has to sit again. I told him I would be on the phone every.single.day with the State and try to get it pushed through (although I know how the government works). My husband makes copies of every single piece of paperwork that he mails, faxes, e-mails, etc. He keeps a copy in his semi, his pick-up and at home.

I should have added that one to my OP. ugh. All the on-ramps on I-270, omg. (less on the Turnpike since it's controlled access). Every single one of those people who are merging onto the highway have a yield sign. A big yellow one. And I'm positive that the yield sign is in every driver's manual across the country. If I'm in the right lane (most of the time) I do try to move over when I see someone up ahead who's merging on, but you can't always do that if there's a lot of traffic in the left lane.

Since I'm getting ready to drive to work, I have one more. We have a highway here where the LEFT lane splits to a different highway and the right two lanes make a 70 degree turn to continue onto the same highway. There are at least two signs that say EXIT ONLY above the left lane. Since it's rush hour, I would venture a guess that 80% of the people on this road are commuters that take it every day.
Stop waiting until the last damn minute to merge over so you don't take the left lane exit!!! Seriously! YOU PEOPLE are the reason the right two lanes back up every day because you wait until the last second to merge (for the love of God, at least try to use your turn signal so we even know), cut people off where there isn't a car length between the cars, or the worst one, COME TO A DEAD STOP IN THE FAR LEFT LANE RIGHT OVER A HILL because you were more important than the people who got over before the exit only signs.
I can't believe there aren't more crashes in this area. But, people are conditioned to the idiots that come to a dead stop in the left lane, so we are prepared for it. The number of people that drive on the berm around those idiots to get to their exit going 65 scare me.

In the UK we have mandatory L-plates that have to be displayed on any car driven by a learner (and removed when driven by the parent, but that often doesn't happen.) They are self-adhesive or magnetic. That gives other drivers the awareness to hang back and give the driver space and time to proceed. Most people respect learners, but there are always the idiots. Of course.
We have a stretch of road 2 miles long that links our town to the motorway. It has a gentle curve and a national speed limit (60mph). I swear, everywhere else in the country, people speed. On this road, they pootle along at 40 - in both directions - until it widens into 2 lanes when it meets the motorway roundabout, then they put their foot down. I have no idea why. It simply doesn't make sense.

One of my biggest pet peeves on the roads here are the lights on the highway on ramps. I HATE them. You should be getting up to highway speed to merge, but 2 cars have to stop together, so you have 2 cars coming onto the highway at the same time that usually aren't up to speed of the traffic yet. Pisses me off every time I get on the highway.

Lately, people on the highway are driving 40 mph or 80. The speed limit is 55. If you want to to go that slow, take the service road or at least for the love of all that's holy...stay in the right lane. It's so hard to get around them because I need a huge gap in order to change lanes so I can get up to speed and not get rear ended. No, either go the speed limit if the road conditions are good or get off the road. Driving slowly in the right lane just messes up everyone that is exiting or entering the freeway/highway.

Oh, I have another vent, or one I don't really understand. I can be the last car in a pack of cars. Yet, a car will come up on my left side really fast, then zip into the space between me and the car in front of me, and naturally he has to step on his brakes, which means I do too. WHY can't they just drop in behind me?? I never understand that one and it happens quite often.

I love living in the country!! So little traffic Yeah, because nothing says clear roads like farm equipment taking one and a half lanes going 15 mph. Sometimes living in the country living has worse traffic than the city. You all should watch Canada's Worst Driver. Season 8 and 9 are streaming on Netflix. I've never seen scarier drivers. Rarely an issue. I lived the city of Columbus for over 20 years.... I feel so free driving here ( and I have been here 16 years). Hate it when I have to go back into Columbus.

Three way lane. 45 MPH speed limit. Lady drives in the left most lane at 42 - 45 mph. She will not move to the right lane. Every Monday to Friday at around 3 PM, she pisses everyone off. lol. Her kid and my kid go to same school. I always hope my son gets out before hers so I don't have to get stuck behind her. . You don't have to drive 70 MPH but come on, get into the middle or right lane and leave the left lane alone.

I have so many driving pet peeves, it's ridiculous!
Impatient drivers behind me during school rush hour: Please don't honk your horn and flash your brights at me because I *gasp* let a ten year old cross the street without just plowing them down. I know it cost you all of seven extra seconds for me not to murder a child, but you'll just have to deal with it.
Drivers in the rain: Turn.On.Your.Lights!!! It's for both of our safety.

Because by zipping up and cutting in front of you they gain a few extra feet in the Commute Competition! You should know that. Ugh. I see the same thing sometimes when I'm driving down a city block and I see a traffic light that's red up ahead. So why zoom? The light is red anyway. So I continue on down the road at the posted speed and some idiot will ZOOM past me on the left, ZOOM up to the light, and then have to stop. And then here I come right up next to him and stop at the same light. All that ZOOMING didn't get him very far. lol

Validation galore for many of you! This past weekend karma dealt with people belonging to the race-up-the-narrow-suburban-cul-de-sac crowd and the park-wherever-you-like-crowd by pitting them against each other. Oh, and a moron neighbour got some too, although I didn't see it happen, sadly. We live on a formerly quiet cul de sac with a circle at the end. The nature reserve has a tiny parking area there so if it is busy plenty of people end up parking further and further up our road. If they park on both sides (despite our side having a solid yellow line) things can get hairy. Then you mix in the boy racer from the complex nearest the nature reserve who exits the complex and puts his foot down flat. He does this on 100% of his journeys, whether it is a weekday or midnight. Whether the dog club is training in our road or if the road is deserted. Whether there are Mums with prams, joggers, whatever, he makes it his mission to scare them all. I am surprised there hasn't been an incident before this. On Sunday both sides of the road were full with parked cars. An SUV was going down towards the reserve, slowly, presumably avoiding mirrors, prams, dogs and so on. Boy racer needed to exit his driveway at speed as usual to head up and away from the reserve and he must have been on the 'phone or otherwise not looking what he was doing because he head on hit the SUV and bounced into 2 parked cars, both of them on the yellow line side hahaha. The resulting shouting match moved up the road 50m or so to the large paved area in front of our house and security camera Incidentally our house was built with 4 garages, we converted two into an office so we really don't mind if 2 or 3 cars park off the road on our paving in front of what are now windows on my husband's hobby area. We hate the ones who park in front of the garage doors though. We appreciate but are irritated by the courteous people who ring the bell to ask if they can park, so we have had signs made. It helps a bit, the regulars know the drill and so do the security patrol people. The neighbour referred to is from the complex on our right. Their driveway is long and curves left past our pavement garden to join the road. Too many of them tend to be accelerating at this point and they make me cringe. If someone has parked on the yellow line in front of my pavement garden and is hanging out a bit across their driveway, things can again get hairy. This particular guy is also a bit of a speed freak; he thinks I should be a part time traffic warden and prevent people parking in front of my house, to avoid inconvenience to himself in particular and his complex mates in general. He writes a lot of notes and sticks them in the gate. I suspect he was the one motivating for the yellow line, which is quite new! Anyway he hit someone's front end, parked as described that means they were on the yellow line facing the wrong way. Karma bit them both on the same weekend as the boy racer SUV incident. The neighbourhood association guy who came to make a disc from my security camera feed showing part of the first incident and resulting shouting match told me all about it ETA: should have said light tone is possible only because nobody was injured in either incident. I hope everybody has good insurance- the only person who was totally innocent was the slow moving SUV guy.

There is this new trend and I could honest kill someone over it. The driver will go so slow ( or start up so slow) that they are the one who makes it through the light trapping everybody behind him/her. WTH. WHY? Lol...this is one of mine. When I am at a stoplight and especially if I am the lead car, it is my JOB to make sure that me and as many of "my people" as possible make it through the light. It aggravates me to no end when others do not take this job seriously. Agree with a previous poster about the 4 way stops too. Add in left turn lanes at a 4 way stop so that it now is essentially an 8 way stop and watch the people of California lose their minds. This stop was at an entrance to Costco which made it even worse. There were two categories of people....those that were too terrified to go at any time, even at and well after their turn and those that had come to a full stop, ONE other car had gone, so it was now their turn. Yeah, sorry but that isn't how it works. People not moving with flow of traffic in fast lane on the highway is another big one. Very common in Florida so people have just learned to go ahead and whip around and pass these drivers on the right, which is dangerous and can cause accidents. It's unfortunate as the slow drivers in the fast lane likely feel that they are keeping everyone else "safe" by driving slower and in reality they are actually putting themselves and everyone around them at risk.

Just yesterday another driver wanted to share the same space with me. Coming off the exit ramp, I merge into the right lane. There is a driver in the left lane trying not to miss his exit so he almost plowed right into me. Thank God I saw him in time and was able to back off. I don't know if he ever did see me.
