I could bring my paper trimmer as carry on but pack the blade and all the other stuff in the checked luggage. That should be fine then.

I would worry about my stuff getting delayed or lost in transit. Having it in your checked bag is no guarantee it won't be lost or delayed by the airline either. DH and I have had our checked luggage delayed by three days once. Thankfully it was on our return flight so we were already home when our bags finally arrived, but if it would have happened on our flight out it would have been awful. I won't ever put my trimmer in my checked bag again after it was jammed into my bag so carelessly by the TSA last time. It was sheer luck that the swing out arm didn't break off. I think I would take the blade out and put that in my checked bag by itself, and put the rest of it into my carryon bag. jstblondie I'm pretty sure that when you're shipping your stuff back you can specify that it be held at the local UPS or FedEx office for pickup if you like. Or have it shipped to a family member or neighbor that you know will be home, or maybe to yourself at your workplace where someone else can sign for it for you. True. Anything can happen but I've had many shipped packages arrive late by more than a day or two (over a month in a couple of instances) where as, touch wood, I haven't had an issue with checking a bag. That's terrible TSA was so careless with your belongings. I've noticed they have gone through my bag but fortunately nothing was damaged. There's risk no matter what we choose. I feel like I just put a big whammy on myself for travelling this weekend.

I would go and preplan as much as possible so I don't have to take punches, etc. I would put a trimmer and micro tip scissors in my checked bag. Carry your photos with you but put your kits in your checked bag. I would get by with my stash of adhesive, popdots, glue dots, journaling pen, and some enamel dots or something like that.
If my suitcase got lost and never recovered, things can be replaced.

I'm flying from the UK to Texas later in the year for a retreat. I'm taking what I can in carry on, and then things like glue (over 100ml), scissors etc in checked. If It decide to try just carry on (I won't need a 1000 outfits to sit at a crop for days!), I'm either going to pop to the shops to pick those kind of things up, or order them and have them sent to the venue or someone local who is driving and can bring them to me. For what I'm packing, I'm thinking carefully about the projects I'm going to make, and making kits to go with them. I'll do any die cutting ahead of time, and I know that some things, like splatters I may have to do at home, since I'm only going to bring a few mists with me (again because of liquid limitations and spillage worries). I use a cutterpiller trimmer, which I know I probably can't take in hand luggage, so I'll use one of my old fiskars ones with the little pointy blade. That should be able to go in my hand baggage, but again those little blades are cheap and not hard to pick up once I arrive. I have one of the WRMK shoulder bags, and I'm hoping to fit most of what I want in there. I'm a slow scrapper anyway, so I'm not worried about running out of things to make. Hopefully! Where in Texas??? Can you post a link?

Some friends of mine who would fly to a retreat would also send stuff ahead to the retreat location, and then mail things home at the end, so that they were not carrying everything in their luggage. I think they (there were 2 of them) would combine supplies and tools and pack one suitcase with the scrappy stuff.

I need to get mine booked as well. I had a blast when they came to st.louis. They weren't full so they lost Money on it. Too bad I wish they would have come back. I wouldn't have to drive or need a hotel room.
