Oh I forgot to say, I have built ALL my furniture by myself.. so it is not that hard regardless of what you read. If I get stuck, there is a You Tube Video to help. It's not fast and you have to follow it step by step, but I figured it out with no help!

I absolutely love my IKEA kitchen. I was able to do all the custom ideas I had at a fraction of the custom cost, thanks in part to DH's ingenuity. I know some people are down on ikea for being cheap materials, but the kitchens really are very nice. I also got some little lingerie chests that fit in my closet perfectly. I'm glad that you posted this, we are thinking about doing an IKEA kitchen so this is good feedback for us, thank you!!

I have these in my scrap room. I love the large size of the drawers b/c it can hold 12x12 paper and the bottom 2 drawers are a little deeper so I can store some of my trimmers in there. www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40196241/

The upstairs of our house is full of IKEA furniture. My kids have dressers, nightstands, desks and shelves. I have the 5x5 expedit in my scrapbook room. We have a TV stand and a 2x4 expedit in the family room. Of course lots of odds and ends have been bought too. I love IKEA and everything holds up so well. Did you screw the dressers to the wall? I bought both my DD's beds. One has the Hemnes without storage and one has Brimnes with storage and I want to get the matching dressers. They're older (14 and almost 11) so I didn't see the need. I'd be interested to hear if you have. No we haven't anchored anything to the wall. Our kids are older and it just didn't seem to ever be a concern. My 5x5 in my craft space sits on a hardwood floor and honestly it would take a LOT for someone to tip it over.

Thanks for all your ideas! I've heard it's huge so I bet there's a lot of walking. My back doesn't take it well, are there some must see spots over others?

Here's the deal with Ikea, if you have never been, which it sounds like you haven't. And why I HATE this store. It's not like a reg store, like a target or wlmart where you can just walk to the section you want. You have to follow a trail, winding thru out the store, level to level. They have maps, so you can sort of figure out where to cut thru.

Thanks for all your ideas! I've heard it's huge so I bet there's a lot of walking. My back doesn't take it well, are there some must see spots over others? So you stop and test out all the chairs. Then walk to the couches and test them...then move on to the beds.....There are lots of places to stop and rest on the top floor (all the ones I have been to are two floors) the bottom half doesn't have as much but I think I move through that a lot faster than the top. ALWAYS check the return section first. Usually on the bottom floor near the registers. I have gotten serious deals there on next to new pieces. I love the Alex line mentioned here, as well as the Expidit..which is now Kalaxxx or some weird thing like that. I just purchased my office furniture from there as well. I dream of an Ikea kitchen some day. I have raskogs in blue, grey and black. The color isn't the reason I buy them It might be a bonus lol. I adore them and use them for a lot of different things. Have fun!

My Expedit cubbies in my craft room--two 5 x 5 cubby units in a L-shape hugging the wall. My Raskog cart. Our Ektorp corner sofa with slipcovers in our tv room--has worn like iron. My Syssan curtains in my living room on the front windows, side windows, and two French doors paired with rattan blinds. These were SO reasonably priced--55% linen, 45% cotton and fully-lined. I love the crazy Josef Frank inspired print. This is my plant room so I have a lot of my houseplants in this room as it gets a western exposure, so it almost seems like a solarium on those long winter days. IKEA has great plant pots/basket planters at a good price. I just bought an assortment of plant stands last week. Every time I go, I buy a gazillion of their 4-pack of cotton kitchen dish towels. I use these a lot. I have green glass dinner plates that look like jadeite that I love, but that they no longer carry. I just updated my Frasera drinking glasses with a new set, as the old ones were getting hard water stains. Love how heavy and expensive looking they are. For a while, I was seeing them used in tv shows all the time. Candles. Candleholders. Vases. Three-packs of round and square glass vessels that you can use for decorating, for food, for plants etc. Picture frames.
