Here, a chocolate pudding is an oven-baked dessert that is like a chocolate cake with chocolate sauce and serve hot straight out of the oven. Can you share the recipe please??? I've been using the same recipe for over 35 years. I expect you and leftturnonly to make it! CHOCOLATE SELF-SAUCING PUDDING 1 cup self-raising flour 2 Tbsp cocoa 30g (1 oz) butter 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup milk 3/4 cup sugar 1 tsp vanilla 3/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup cocoa 1 3/4 cups hot water Sift flour, salt and cocoa. Add sugar, mix well. Stir in milk, vanilla and melted butter, mix until smooth. Spread evenly into greased ovenproof dish. Combine brown sugar and sifted cocoa, sprinkle over top of pudding. Pour hot water carefully over the top. Bake in moderate oven for 50 - 60 minutes. Serve with cream or ice-cream.

I had to open this thread just to find out what kind of chocolate pudding needs to 'set'. Here, a chocolate pudding is an oven-baked dessert that is like a chocolate cake with chocolate sauce and serve hot straight out of the oven. OOH you guys are making me want pudding! THat looks awsome! I love it nice and gooey. It's not right if it's too thick. Although with Vanilla I like it thicker. When I was really sick with my stomach surgeries I lived on Vanilla pudding. It settled things. So sorry your dessert went wrong but sounds very ediable! lol!

(With vanilla ice cream!) Thanks so much for the great recipe!

This looks delicious and similar to what we call a lava cake. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

There are many variations, I made one recently with choc chips in is as well. But this is the recipe I've used since I was a teenager so I tend to stick to that recipe. This looks delicious and similar to what we call a lava cake. Thanks for sharing the recipe! Yes it's kind of like a lava cake I guess, but much easier. With a lava cake there's always the risk that it's over cooked and not gooey inside. A chocolate pudding is much more forgiving.

I've always used a round Pyrex glass bowl but the other day I couldn't find it so I ended up using a square Pyrex dish. I think it was 8 x 8 inch and that was a pretty good size. I think it works better in a round bowl, you seem to get more sauce somehow.

it looks exactly like chocolate mousse. Oh no no no! Chocolate pudding is to chocolate mousse what a sled is to a snowmobile. I agree. I think American Chocolate pudding is most like British Chocolate Custard. I think the main difference is with a custard it thickens on the stove and pudding thickens as it cools. I have made both from scratch and they are very similar.

This is a recipe she can defiantly make. And any Brit care to explain Summer Pudding? Lol It was one of my favorite desserts but I could not describe it to my daughter as I have never made it.

If you are really pushed for time, use a good quality packet cake mix as per the instructions then add the brown sugar and cocoa as per AussieMeg's method. I have done this when I was short of time and had a packet in my pantry rather than go to the store to get the ingredients. I do like making from scratch and do this mostly but thought I'd add the above if it helps anyone. They are so good for a crowd, I've made them a few hours ahead in disposable foil trays. Just put the cocoa/sugar mixture on before baking.

I thought FOR SURE this post had taken some controversial turn with some snotty comments, because no way could there be a two page post about chocolate pudding. Huh.

Ok, we've had the recipe for chocolate pudding as I know it from AussieMeg. Now can we have the recipe for your chocolate pudding which didn't "set up" (I've never heard that phrase either!) so that those of us outside the US can see what we've spent 2 pages talking about? Oh and here's a recipe for summer pudding for those who asked. I'm also not a fan of it.

Omg, it may not be American "pudding" but it sure looks wonderful! I opened this thread because I wondered how a thread about chocolate pudding could go to two pages. I bet this is why (haven't read past your reply yet). I'm going to assume that you provided the recipe somewhere in the thread? If not, I'll be back. lol Mystie, sorry about your pudding but as someone else said, a cup of chocolate probably tasted yummy too.

(I buy the packets that you just mix with milk, cook for a bit, then let chill -- to set up -- in the refrigerator)... Basic chocolate pudding

Oh and here's a recipe for summer pudding for those who asked. I'm also not a fan of it. Here's the recipe I used: Mexican Chocolate Pudding. It has cinnamon in it, that makes it "Mexican." I was making chicken enchiladas and bean and corn salad for dinner, so I thought Mexican chocolate pudding would be nice. I've never gone wrong with a Williams-Sonoma recipe before (they're a big cookware/dinnerware company here) but i think I was not paying enough attention and lost track of the boiling time, and I also think the recipe should have been more specific about the consistency I was looking for. It tasted very, very good, though, so I think it's worth another try. Summer pudding has always sounded beyond gross to me, and Eton Mess and pavlova puzzle me a bit but there are so many other British/Commonwealth recipes that are fantastic. I made Anzac biscuits a couple years ago, and they were so good! I need to do that again.

Thank you. We have a dairy-free soy dessert made by Provamel that looks very like this, but it has carageenan for the thickener instead of corn starch.
