I was reminded about this on another thread. It's a phrase I'd never heard until I heard it on 2peas. I was born in 1953 and graduated from high school in 1971. Did it just not ever make it to my neck of the woods or was it used (gasp) before my time? When did you hear it for the first time?

I have heard it before, but I can't remember the first time I heard it or where. It wouldn't have been that long ago.
I hear "cool bananas" a lot more.

I say it all the time. I'm 51 though, so it is probably ancient and terminally uncool..

I say it all the time. I'm 51 though, so it is probably ancient and terminally uncool.. Well I'm 61 so add 10 years to the ancient and uncool factor.

I always remember my step dad saying it when I was a kid... I'm 35 now. He still says it and now I do too!

First time I heard it was when I went off to college and my first roommate used to say it all the time. That was over 20 years ago. Geez...I'm getting old!! Haha!

Love that their usage example was Cheech and Chong. I am in my late 40's, terminally uncool and unhip, and have been saying "cool beans" since I was a kid.

I say it now and then, but I don't think I learned it until adulthood. I think it is regional vs. generational.

This post made me smile. I am in my 40s and used to say it all the time about 20 years ago. I was in NYC at the time and had a girl I worked with in CA who had never heard of it. It became our thing. I haven't used the term since leaving NY.

I would say that I first started hearing it in the 80s around here.

In the early 90s there was a store in Harvard square called cool beans...I wonder if its still there, they had a really eclectic collection of stuff, I used to love going there. Come to think of it, it was probably still there in the late 90s when I left school. My friend used to say it all the time. I should send her that hilarious link from jbeans

I have heard it...forever...but it seems to be making a resurgence. I have employees who use it in a professional setting, and I cringe each time.

One of my kids friends started saying it last year. My niece started saying it this year and she picked it up at college. No one else we know says it.

I can't remember when I first heard the phrase. Early 80's, I'd guess.

I am turning 50 this year and still say it all the time. My brother tells me it is very dated but I just can't seem to stop. I have been saying it since highschool in the late 70s and early 80s.
