I have a small wine rack that functions something like the one in this link. Mine has a tiled shelf on top of the frame, but the bottle holder part is the same. I don't need it for wine anymore because our new house has a rack built into the kitchen cabinetry, but I don't want to get rid of this one because my dad built it. I'll hand it down to one of my DDs eventually, but I'd like to use it for something in the meantime. Do you have any ideas for using it for scrappy storage? Thanks!

If you can find some larger straight sided vases, something like that would be great for storing pencils, pens and markers that need to be stored horizontally. Maybe you could even do the thing with the string and lighter fluid from Pinterest to cut the tops off of some wine bottles and use those in it? The other thing that comes to mind would be figuring out a way to rig it up to store rolls of ribbon somehow, but I'm not exactly sure how you would do that.

If you can find some PVC plumbing pipes - large enough diameter/similar diameter to the cut outs in the rack, you could lay those in the rack... Either whole or cut in half to form a semicircle/tray... You can use a spray paint that works on plastic to change the pipes to any colour you like... It would work great for borders or other long and narrow, difficult to store without getting crumpled stuff...
You could also just ignore the dips/cut outs and place a tray, board, piece of plastic on the rails to create a shelf... Depending on it's dimensions, might be a great place to line up Thickers type products/packaging... With the packages standing up on their side - easy to flip through them, slide them in/out... You could stack those divided embroidery floss containers there, muffin tins to store flair/brads/loose little bits...

crazy4scraps and penny, I love your ideas! ETA, do they make really tall Ball jars (or something similar) that are about the same diameter as a wine bottle? Maybe I could store some whatnot in jars in the rack?

Pringles cans or ice tea glasses would work.

Pringles cans or ice tea glasses would work. See, I just KNEW there was a reason why I have about 20 empty Pringles cans hoarded! You could even decorate the outside with cute PP to coordinate with your decor.

I have a somewhat similar one sitting on its side on the floor, and all my extra large paper is rolled and kind of resting in it, sort of like an umbrella stand

I remember seeing one on Pinterest where they used vintage glassware tumblers in the bottle inserts. The one you linked to would look nice painted. The Pringles cans sees like they would fit that one well.

So going to have to try that.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! I'm feeling really hopeful that I can find something. I like the pens in the cups idea a lot. Patter, your arrangement looks so pretty all loaded with your pens ! Thanks for the link
