Definitely home improvement gift cards. So many things we need to do to our home right now. Not to mention all the things I WANT to do.

We eloped 23 years ago and got a crystal bowl and a wooden salad bowl. I still use both.
On my registry wish list I would put mid century atomic bar ware and glasses, good knives, luggage.

Camping supplies would be my registry choice now. Very expensive to acquire all at once when you are just starting out!
The most practical gift we received? A hammer and set of screwdrivers!

Cash. We eloped so got no gifts. Fine by me. If I had a normal wedding (then or now), I'd want cash. I've been with my husband for 20 years. I don't miss not having china or crystal or a gravy boat or whatever other doodads are the go to wedding gift. We always give a cheque at a wedding. If they couple want, I'm happy for them to purchase china or crystal or whatever with it. The last wedding we went to, I gave cash and the bride used it to buy electrolytes for her favors (hangover kits). As my Dad would say, 'whatever blows your hair back'.

We specifically didn't register for china, stemware or silverware because we knew then already that it would never get used and I've always been far too practical to ask for things like that when I actually needed other stuff. We did live together first, so we already had most of what we needed and we bought it all ourselves so there wasn't much we really even wanted. These days I would ask for bath sheets instead of towels (bigger is always better in the towel department!), a nice food processor, high quality high thread count bedsheets, an instant pot, stuff like that. On a related note, our go-to wedding gift is typically a whole case of good toilet paper. It's something everybody needs and something nobody really wants to buy. Most couples we've given it to have said it was the best gift they received and that it lasted for many months! I love the toilet paper idea. I've told people IRL that I wish I had asked for paper plates and paper towels. It sure would make life a lot easier.

No I would not register. Some people are going to get you gifts anyway.
I wasn't going to register for my 2nd marriage but one of my friends insisted on a shower. She was going to do a lingerie shower but I put my foot down on that. I've never liked going to those and I sure don't want one. So I did register at Replacements for more of the china I had bought myself as a set when I got out of college. It's very neutral. I got a few pieces which were more than I really needed.

Bits and pieces off your house plants. Especially if you have old ones. This is a really unique idea and I love it! Maybe not for a wedding, since I don't plan to ever marry again, but I would love to request this from friends. Maybe before I move, I can request this from my friends so that I have something to remind me of them at my new house. I really like your idea. SaveSave
