Anyone have one? Pics if you can! I'm going to get one in honor of my dad who passed Saturday. Something like this, but with an emerald green ribbon for liver cancer.

I have been wanting to get on in remembrance of my mom, but I can't come up with a design that really says what I want.
There is a lady I work with, her neice got a rather large tattoo in rememberance of her dad (co-workers brother) on the back of her calf. The work DAD spelled out and within each letter is a little about what he loved - corvettes, Disney, bowling, beach, sunset Green Bay Packers etc. It turned our really nice!
I like your idea, will you be getting it on your wrist also?

My DIL has one on her wrist that says Mom, using her mother's handwriting from a card she had sent DIL. It's small and sweet. I'm so sorry for your loss. Hugs, twoboyzmom.

I have been thinking of getting a skeleton key on my wrist for a while now, still may on the other arm...but want to do this one asap

My brother has a giant pink ribbon. The words remind me of a tombstone. The thing is, my mom HATED all things pink ribbon.
If I were to get one, it would be one that honored what she loved.

I do not have one but my Aunt does in memory of my Uncle. She picked something that was personal to him. He loved comic books and used to draw/doodle. She took in one of his superman 'S' drawings and had a tattoo of that with his initials. She also has an infinity symbol with their wedding anniversary date and their initials. The infinity she got when he was diagnosed with stage IV cancer.
My only advice is to incorporate something personal of him into what you choose. I have seen beautiful memorial tattoos.

I have one in memory of my Uncle Steve. He died young several years ago. He always wore a Superman baseball cap. I got the Superman symbol but make it pink and yellow.

I'm planning to get the Scottish battle cry of my family name in honor of my cousin who died in a car accident on NYE. (he was the last male in the family and just before he died we had a conversation about him carrying on the family name). I just haven't settled on a location for the tattoo yet.

This is mine for my nephew/godson who died by suicide in 2006. Sorry for the redness of it...this was taken right after it was done. It's really a black and gray, no red

my suggestion is to wait a bit before getting the tattoo....make sure it's exactly what you want to live with
i'm not saying that you haven't thought about it

I kept postponing getting it done for a variety of reasons but the reality is that the idea just wasn't right. Im glad I waited. When the right idea came along, it all clicked together and I had always been grateful I didn't go with my initial thoughts and idea. Maybe someday I will but for different reasons. You can barely see it but there is a point on my shoulder where the tentacles form a heart. That was by accident and was not a point of the initial drawing. However, its my favorite part and the reason I love it so. When it is right you will know and it will mean all that much more. If you are struggling to make it work, put it away for a bit and come back to it.

I have a tattoo of a penguin on my wrist in honor of my daughter. I took in a picture that she drew when she was in 1st grade and my tattoo guy "Turtle" made a copy of her drawing and tattooed it on. There were a few spots where she had colored outside of the lines and originally I asked him to clean it up but he refused because then it wouldn't be Phoebe's work anymore. So my sweet little penguin is just as she drew it.
My best friend went with me and she got a line drawing of Picasso's penguin on her ankle also in memory of my daughter. We were both in our mid-forties and have no other tattoos.

I'm getting one soon. My father was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's last year.
I haven't completely decided on the design, but most likely it will be an anchor and forget me nots. My father loves the ocean and owns a sailboat. He was my anchor growing up, and now I have to be his anchor. It's also a reminder not to drown while being someone else's anchor.

My daughter has her best friends first name tattooed on her ankle. She used her friends handwriting. She said she put it there so that her friend will always be walking with her. My ex-husband would write poems, and when he passed, his sisters all got the same sentence of one of his poems tattooed on their body. They had their mom or their dad write the words, so that their parent's handwriting is on their body. Best of luck to your decision, and I am so sorry for your loss.

I have plans to get my dads signature of "love dad" on my wrist. We all have buttercup tattoos in honor of my fiance's mom's fight with ALS (long story about the buttercup). He and his sister both had "Love, Mom" in their mom's handwriting added to theirs and it is so beautiful. My dad died in 1979 when I was only 18. I wish I had something that said "Love, Dad" in his writing, because I would have it added to my family tattoo on my arm. But my mom was the one who signed everything, so I've had no luck finding anything.

When my dad died, one of my sister's best friends said she was going to get a tattoo in honor of him. I thought it was a sweet gesture. My family is Mormon (tattoos are frowned upon) so we were surprised! We made suggestions of different objects that reminded us of him. I like the idea of incorporating fishing. I really love the idea of a tattoo, but I'm always changing my mind about things, it's so permanent.

I have a big tattoo on my chest, a mastectomy tattoo. But in it is a stethoscope for my Mom who also had breast cancer, a hummingbird on my shoulder for my grandma who also had breast cancer and a big bright poppy for my great grandma who had breast cancer. The tattoo is a healing piece for me, a remembrance for those women who came before me, a connection to my husband and a reminder that I am still me, after any battle. Mine is not suitable to show, otherwise, I'd post it. But if you're on my Facebook, you can see it.

My mom had a poem my dad wrote to her tattooed on the inside of her arm between the wrist and elbow at the one year anniversary of his passing. The artist even copied his handwritten signature.

Exactly how I plan to honour and remember my parents, with something that makes me instantly think of them. I'm still in the deciding phase of what, I've got too many ideas , but it'll be a beautiful piece of art work like the forearm tattoo I've had done for my 40th representing my little family. OP: I'm so sorry for your loss. Whatever tattoo you decide on you'll be doing it in your dads memeory and that's what makes it special. Hugs. ETA: Reading through the thread now I love so many of these ideas. I have also seen the handwriting from notes tattoos and love that idea as well.

I'm not a tattoo fan, but I really appreciate these kind. I love when I see something written in their own handwriting. If you have a card or something from your dad, you could have them copy his handwriting for the "dad" part. I am really sorry about your father's loss twoboyzmom You may want to wait a couple months to see what you miss and remember about him. When it's so fresh, it's sometimes hard to choose the right design.
