After reading the thread about books you are surprised people haven't read, I thought I would start a thread about books you think everyone should read. I know for readers it will be hard to keep it to one, but just do your best! So what is one book you think everyone should read?

I'm going there, Harry Potter. I'm not big on rereading books, but I've reread them countless times. Love them!

The Christian bible. And I'm an atheist. I think everyone should read it for themselves and not trust to what others say.

The Adventues of Tom Sawyer. I think that it still has lessons to learn. Would like to add Huckleberry Finn too.

Of all the replies up to this point, I have no intention of reading any of those books!
ETA: except maybe To Kill A Mockingbird, I might get around to that one at some point.
Never going to read Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings, nor King, nor anything overtly religious.

I've read most of these! Of them all, I'd only re-read The Stand.
I'm going to add the gunslinger series by Stephen King.

"Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. "100 Hundred Years of Solitude" is his masterpiece and I do like it a great deal, but "Love" is probably my favorite book, period.

I'll add my very favorite book ever to the list, although I'm going to guess that not many people nowadays have even read it.
Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott

Little Men, Jo's boys, etc.? They are just as good IMO. LMA was an amazing writer!! As far as my choice, probably To Kill a Mockingbird, but The Giver is a close second. These are books that I think people should read but not necessarily my favorites. I like happy reading if we are talking about my favorites.

Never going to read Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings, nor King, nor anything overtly religious. Me either (I have read Mockingbird at school though). I do not like fantasy, wizardry, supernatural books at all. I'm sick of people thinking like I am some sort of "less than" because I haven't read those books. Like watching paint dry to me.

I've never thought any book was one everyone should read. I'd rather whittle my own leg into an exact replica of the Eiffel Tower than read Harry Potter.
